| | | The tickets to dollywood that never were A few years ago, there was a production of "the best little whorehouse in texas" at a theater named after my family. They casted dolly parton as the lead role. After the show, my grandparents (they were the ones who got the theater named after us) brought me to meet her. I told her that she did a wonderful performance. I considered asking her if she could get me a few free tickets to dollywood but decided not too. I also think the subject of her park came up for a few seconds too.
I didn't want to say, "Hey great performance! Can you give me free tickets to your park?"
*sigh* that is one of those moments when I wished I would have done something different, like the first time I went to CP and chickened out on MF after waiting 2.5 hours in line.
Just a nice little annecdote I thought I would share with all of you...

| | | Well in the Dolly case, you did the polite thing. If you wanted to, you could have brought up "OMG I so totally want to go to your park one day" or "its so great! I love it" etc.
as for chickening out on Millenium force after two hours...wow, that was a big mistake and waste of time.

| | | I would have done the same in Dolly's case. As for Millennium force opening year i with with my partner and after 3 hours he chickened out in the station and i had to ride by myself. He did however go on it when we returned 4 months later. |

| | | I'd say "I look forward to going to your park someday. It's part of my hobby." If I could.

| | | You got a chance to meet Dolly Parton and are lamenting the fact that you didn't get tickets? I'd be pretty happy just having the opportunity to meet her.

| | | Maybe this is because I'm not from the south, but I never saw a big deal about her other than her theme park. I would've probably been busy staring at her bulbous chesticles to say anything at all to her.
Please don't flame me. |

| | | Don't get me wrong, it WAS awesome to meet her. She delivered an excellent performance, and she happens to own a park with one of the top rated woodies in the world. I was a little bit speechless, but that was mainly because I would probably have gone off on how she owns thunderhead instead of her performance. So I just told her that she gave an excellent performance.
lol my grandparents were so chummy with her. They might be old enough to be her parents. Now that I think about it, I was standing in the lobby and my grandparents brought HER to see ME. My grandparents are very proud of their children and grandchildren, and they are very close to the theater's director, so it does make sense that they would be the ones to introduce me. lol.
I suppose I DID help build some of the set, so I was part of the crew, at least. Nothing quite like splitting a 10 foot long 1inch PVC pipe down the middle(from open end to open end) on a bench saw, or moving several pieces of structure to the stage from a room 80 ft away. Good times, good times...

| | | That's a lot of help you gave to her performance, I think you could've asked even your grandparents to get her to give you tickets. Seriously, if I had to do all that work, I think the least they could do is give some free theme park tickets, considering it would be no cost to Dolly herself. he could probably get free VIP passes for people who he's close with such as you grandparents. |

| | | Dolly Parton was never in a "stage" version of "Whorehouse". She and Burt Reynolds did star in the 1982 motion picture, however.
And when you do meet Ms. Parton face-to-face, the last thing on your mind is free tickets. |

| | | OMG LOL after a bit of googling I discovered that Dollywood03 is correct! It was actually Sally Struthers! I have no idea how I got that mixed up... What a fool I am! I guess I must have heard about thunderhead recently, heard a southern accent, and my enthusiast brain replaced her name with Dolly. I feel much better now, I think... Everyone disregard this thread!
BTW: I make fun of her in one of my stand-up routines about the lack of food on airlines (... you look like one of those starving ethiopians, sally struthers comes on and says, "for only pennies a day, you can feed one of the thousands of starving airline passengers that travel each day.")
