Old Country Closed at Six Flags Great Adventure

A section of the park, Old Country, is closed at Six Flags Great Adventure, according to the 2008 park map. This was rumored during the offseason. Old Country was a small section of 3 flats, a removed Spinmeister Enterprise, Musik Express, and Bumper cars. Perhaps these two flats left will be SBNO this season? This section led to CHILLER and Movietown. The end of Movietown next to Old Country lost Freefall and CHILLER the last 2 years so it made sense to close this section of the park since there was barely anything left besides the catering/picnic section. Now guests can enter the catering via passing Batman The Ride, the new Dark Knight, and the Batman Arena at the end of Movietown. I don't think it's a big loss as that section needed to be refreshed, the bumper cars are among the worst I've ever been on. I do believe the park has to subtract as it already has to get better in the future. The aging flats one by one already have been on their way out but I believe they will eventually be replaced. It makes sense given the financial situation of the theme park chain. Already more than a handful are gone so additions would just cancel that loss.

The Old Country closure closes off only a small area but I think would allow the park flexibility for construction if they want a 2009 addition there. I could see a Tony Hawk fitting in that plot as much as I hated that coaster for capacity. I remember an ACEr and I talk about a out n back woodie, before El Toro came along, that could leave Old Country go along the park fence outside of the catering area and near the former bus parking lot and turn around by the water tower. Villian could proably fit that area. LOL.

I remember reading about the area closure rumored at SFMM where Deja Vu and Psyclone was. Deja Vu is still there so it looks like the coaster saved the section for now. I realize the talk of a 2009 coaster for SFMM.

Sorry for being ignorant, but where did you find the new map? I'm looking for a new map for SFNE to see what to expect. First trip there for me this year.

The talk about the closure of the Cyclone Bay area at Magic Mountain was nothing more than rumor/speculation conjured by Lance at Screamscape. It was never confirmed or acknowledged as a consideration by anybody at Six Flags.

While I can see the reasons I hate seeing it happen. The area has been unnecessarily shrinking for the last 7 years. fantasy fling, Revolution, chaos, Gauntlet (Huss Frisbee), etc all gone in a mater of year. The bigger annoyance is that a once organized and easy to travel section of the park is now a giant dead end. with one new ride and a high profile ride to cause traffic.

coasterb - SFNE hasn't updated their map. her is the PDF file for the 2007 map:
Map link

There are 3 rides removed form the park Rodeo(Map #61), Bumper buggies (#104), and Double Trouble (#100). The Stunt show arena is also removed (#141) Batman dark night is going to be placed there but a lawsuit is halted construction. so it may or may not be operating during your trip.

I also hope you find time to visit some of the other parks New england has to offer such as Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH and Lake Compounce In Bristol, CT.
