Trouble with Platinum Passes

Hello all. Did anyone have difficulty with the Cedar Fair Platinum passes over the weekend? We traveled to both King's Island and Cedar Point and they wouldn't scan. We held up traffic at the parking booths while employees called to verify it was okay. We we're holding up the lines trying to get into the park as well. One Cedar Point employee informed me that Worlds of Fun was not a Cedar Fair park because it wasn't listed on her sister park sheet. Yeah, like I'm going to travel for 13 hours with a counterfeit pass, whatever. I know this is the first year with the new system, but I was wondering if it was just the WOF passes that weren't working.

Valleyfair was not scanning he passes at all. SO I do not know that the issue is. I have heard Cedar Point is having issues with the system right now. There are always bugs in new systems. Valleyfair has ye to get the computer screens so all other passes must go though Guest Services to get in. So not all the parks are finished with the transformation yet.

I had problems with my Maxx Pass last year where I had to go to Guest Relations all the time. The one place I didn't have a problem at: Geauga Lake, was the park they closed.

At Kings Island, where we purchased the Platinum Pass, they had to scan one twice before the picture came up, but both ended up getting us in the parking lot and the park fine. Was going to go to Cedar Point opening weekend, but plans were cut short due to weather.

On a side note, do the Platinum Passes get you in to Cedar Point (to ride rides) half an hour early? I thought I read that on a Cedar Fair site and just want to make sure before I make a fool of myself.

The gates open @ 0900 for platinum passes. There are a lot of benefits with the platinum passes, but you have to ask for them (free games, discounted food/merchandise, etc.)

The thing is, with a new system and new cards, there should be no problems with adequate testing. So the fact is, they didn't thoroughly test it. This is why I am not attending Cedar Fair parks this year. I ran into too many problems with this last year along with parking and customer service problems, from which I was promised by the Kings Island administration no less that this year everything would be fully operational. Apparently, by example of these posts, I was right in assuming that they wouldn't have it fixed yet. Therefore, I'm taking a hiatus from CF to visit the smaller local amusement parks that I've never been to before.

Well, I can confirm that my Knott's platinum pass also gave me similar problems at Carowinds on opening weekend. I had to wait in the Guest Services line, which sucks, but I'm not going to throw a hissy fit and boycott the chain because of it.

Good for you. Going to guest relations and signing in is no hassle for me. So while you are on your little kiddie rides at Coney Island I'll be on Firehawk and the Maverick.

I agree, its not the end of the world if you have to go to GR to sign in. Its just like all the other years. I heard that Valleyfair is now scanning all passes and they are working. Parks that don't have photos on the ID cards still have to go though GR since we don't have computers yet at Valleyfair.

Yes the did. Valleyfair has them now. Until we get the computers next year. Also Maxx Passes where not ever able to be scanned at other parks, only at your home park. They never had that working. You always had to go to GR for those.

Riiight, because Coney is what I was taking about. And trust me, the pass thing is minor compared to other things I had to deal with at CF last year. They'll do fine without me. It's not like I'm boycotting them. I'm just choosing the less-corporate places this year over CF.

sounds like boycotting to me, but I'm not gonna say anything...

I got a MAXX pass last year and went to KD, Cedar Point, and Geauga Lake with the only problem at KD, I had to do the whole sign in thing, no big deal. But I had no issues in Ohio...

I've used my platinum pass 2 times at Knott's this year. The first time was with my dad and we got into the park no problem, they just scanned our passes and we went in.

The second time however was by myself and I was told I had to go to guest relations to be signed in. They seemed to not know what they were doing and it took me 5 minutes in what should have been a 2 second process.
