Down Goes Geauga Lake's Coasters :(

Geauga Lake Today Forums - View topic - RIP Double Loop - THE place to chat about The Lake and much much more! - Free Message Board Hosting by FreePowerBoards.com

On the Geagua Lake Today forums pictures show that the Double Loop has been demolished.

I assume the Villian won't be standing much longer.

Its really sad to see what has happened to a wonderfull park like Geauga Lake. I'm a little stunned that coasters are being demolished when CF has over a dozen parks these rides could be sent to. Heck just send Villian to Carowinds with Head Spin if they're just goting to demolish it.

I can't beleave how disrespectful the people on that site are. Its like they hate anyone who likes Cedar Fair and want to bash Cedar Fair cause they closed down a park that wasn't drawing people or money in since Six Flags had it. Cedar Fair does read the coaster sites and i bet they may have that one shut down. I know they look at the one about Kings Island.

He's talking about the link I posted. After the pictures they start criticizing Cedar Fair even going as far as making an anit Cedar Fair group on Facebook.

It's human nature.

You take away something sentimental to people and they WILL over-react and act stupid, no matter how legitimate the (business) reason is or was.

As for the coasters go, good riddance. I wasn't particularly fond of any of the coasters I rode there. The only units that were moved were the rides that had any marketing and monetary value.

Screamscape mention the weird relations that the APEX moving company that would move Big Dipper and Raging Wolf Bobs for the auction winner and ACE have in this.

Cedar Fair knew exactly what they were doing when they bought Geauga Lake from Six Flags in 04, eliminate competition. They treated the park like crap, stole it's rides, didn't take care of it and closed it just to keep Cedar Fair the king of Ohio. For some reason, they don't have the same idea with Kings Island, it must not be a big threat, but Geauga Lake seemingly was and they wanted to do whatever they could to keep guests from going there and point them to Cedar Point. I think it's selfish and a bit sad, but when the day comes to an end, it was a good business descision, as much as I hate to say it. As far as the coasters, What are they gonna do, send Villian to Carowinds with no trains? Remember, the trains are parked at Kings Island

The regulars on this site know my stance on this. These rides that were left over will be melted down or turned into toothpicks. Oh yes, blame Cedar Fair, they ran the park into the ground. Not that Six Flags had ANYTHING to do with the failure of the park. After all, Six Flags took a nice FAMILY park and tried to turn it into major competition. If you are going to blame Cedar Fair (and thus boycott them, for all the Yahoos at GLT) then blame and boycott Six Flags as well, since they contributed more to the demise of Geauga Lake.

"You heartless bastard. Big Dipper was like a family member to me." Would be what that site would post if you made that comment there. Chris, saying that they are over-reacting is an understatement. I've lurked over there and they seem to think a small handful of sentimental people will change Cedar Fair's mind.

I am laughing at this post though:

its just disgusting. god, what it would be like to be one of those construction workers ripping it apart.

"alright boys, lets get started on tearing down the worlds first consecutive double looping coasters, and oh boy 30 years old! wont this be fun?"

^i think i would throw up.
More like, "Hey let's do this job quick and get the hell out! Hey is it cheap wing night down at BW3?"

Is it ungodly that I wonder what sound a loop makes when it falls over? Did it fall over in one whole piece? I still don't like it when a park goes through a process to become an Astroworld vacant piece of land but I was wondering.

If Cedar Fair bought GL ONLY to close it, why run it at a loss for the 3-4 years that they did?

If it was just a power business move, why not just buy it, and close the gates then and there?

They probably tip it over and then dismantle it.
I bet it makes the same sound as an iceberg hitting a ship, a large bang and the sound of creaking and scraping metal.
It sucks hardcore that Cedar Fair had to take out the park.

I don't like the decision that CF closed this park. I have stated my feelings in the past. I won't state them again.

However, I do feel that if CF did buy this park to close out competition, they got one hell of a deal. They lucked out and got five coasters for quite the bargain price, didn't they?

They got X-flight, Steel Venom, Thunderhawk, Head Spin and Dominator for the bargain price of moving them and re-erecting them. I say they got a pretty damn good deal. That saves them millions upon millions of dollars of new rides. Why buy new when you can buy used?

I just am pissy about the fact that I can't visit a park that is close to me for a day, get my son on a few rides and come home. The two closest parks to me have been closed. I have to travel 90+ minutes to get to a park. No thanks.

Oh my god, the people over at that site are ******ing crazy! Ahaha, I just find some of their posts hysterical...

But anyways, about Geauga Lake, I never visited the park but it seemed like quite a nice place. Business wise, I think Cedar Fair made a good decision, so they just did what had to be done. No need for everyone over there to act like a family member was just torn down by those evil construction workers.
