Hard Rock Park in Some Serious Debt?

This is a continuation of the forum that was shut down.

Don't get me wrong, the park is alright and I'm not wanting it to fair by any means, I mean, take the joke and move on. All I said was that it was funny how Premier just like repoed the ride... I mean... Since of humor?

HRP is i serious trouble and i honestly don't see the park opening next year unless it's under owners.

Perhaps, the park didn't performs horribly. They had some bad planing and they over guessed on attendance numbers. Weather had some to do with it. but the Company that did the feasibility study may not have known that they were doing to concentrate on coasters and little else and still not deliver much on the coasters. i also heard that the park isn't well advertised.

we'll just have to wait and see.

I think that they should lower their prices, maybe that would bring more people to the park?

And if you think about this, HRP is not for old people... My mom, who's not old, but old enough to matter, hated it because of the constantly loud music....

Hard Rock is in trouble in my opinion because of several things:

1-The economy has been down, people aren't traveling to the beach like they normally do.

2-Their prices are too much, for what they offer.

3-The park lacks in a lot of areas, especially the lack of rides.

4-The builders didn't understand the market they were coming into. They thought (apparently) that they were building in Orlando. Myrtle Beach is one of the biggest tourist cities in the country, but it's not Orlando. There is no Disney or Universal style park down there, and you can't just stroll in expecting to charge Disney/Universal prices.

A highly themed Park could likely survive anywhere as long as the product is good. Look at Busch Gardens in Virginia. I would barely call that a tourist area. They over charge and under deliver. they need more rides. Maybe they should have held off on one coaster and added 4-8 more flats rides.

Year One is probably the biggest hurdle. I'm just crossing my fingers like we all are for year Two. It would be part of my southern tour whenever I get to it. Hard Rock is a place that would try something different too, hence the loud music and the Maximum RPM. It probably has a many major, not kiddie flats as SFGADV. Ha

My last frontiers state wise is Central Midwest, Northern Midwest, and Southeast.

Are you saying Williamsburg is not a tourist area? I guess the birth place of our nation is not that big a deal to you, but many people do visit that area and Virginia Beach and Norfolk are not that far away....

Perhaps I should have stated it better. I'm not completely saying it isn't a tourist area but not on the level of what I have been lead Myrtle Beach is. Yes a lot of people do to Williamsburg I can say the same thing for The White Mountains of NH. better example and towards the attendance number they want Euro Disney. It's outside of the city and on farm land. While the park is under performing by Disney standards it dose real well by park numbers. My bigger point is what the park offers and how they handle themselves has more to do then location. As long as the location has a reasonable population and influx of possible guests a park can survive if they offer a quality product.

One of the problems HRP has it does not even advertise that good even in Myrtle Beach area. When I was there before the park opened last Thanksgiving, the local malls did not even have any mention of them.

Another thing is that their advertising (IMO) is stupid, very stupid.

They ran some of their "must have been to Hard Rock" ads here in Charlotte, and I thought they were one of the dumbest I'd ever seen for any park.

I should say the biggest thing is that I am not going to pay more to go HRP than Carowinds. But then again, I am a Charlotte fanboy( love that town)

In this Philadelphia South Jersey market over the years I've heard a lot of people talk about either going to Myrtle Beach or Williamsburg. Recently I've been hearing more Williamsburg. Williamsburg tends to band together as a region and advertise as a whole in our Philly tv market. I've some Busch commercials sometimes. Perhaps HRP has to get some marketing up here too. This is a huge market for them to touch.

They really should, as the whole I-95 corridor pretty much feeds right into Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach has been declining the past few years, but basically because it's in transition right now.

Downtown is under construction all up and down the strip with this gigantic new hotels, many of the cute little motels are gone now.

Of course our beloved Pavilion is gone, and that was the anchor of that whole area of downtown Myrtle Beach.

The whole Hard Rock area is so corporate too. You've got Medieval Times and all that other junk over there.

p.s. How far north does South of the Border advertise? I've seen their tacky billboards up into Virginia.

South of the Border even got into Delaware, even Philadelphia! one year. I agree about the Myrtle Beach transition. It's happening and scaring Wildwood, NJ, home of Morey's. The Doo Whop is threatened there too.

Ya the adds seem a bit week. They also seem to feel like the SFI commercials.

Only thing I can is good about them is the repetition. It's there but it doesn't get annoying.

OMG, you don't put in a quote that says "The food is surprisingly good." That suggests to the viewer that the food wasn't supposed to be any good in the first place. Bad choice.

I think they were going for the "everyone knows park food isn't great.." crowd.

Oh.. and the food isn't good at all.

Is HRP planning anything new such as rides or anything for 2009?

There has been no announcement as of yet but i really doubt they will be adding anything next year with all the trouble and debt their in. What they need to do for 2009 is drop addmission by $15 and some serious new ads.

I'll also be at Scarowinds that night. Then again i'll be at Scarowinds every night.

Even the NC/SC resident price was horrible at HRP so alot needs to be changed before they even think about opening next year.

Welcome to TN by the way. Always nice to have more NC/SC people here.
