Parks that could be defunct within five to ten years.

Simple. What parks do you think will not be around in 5-10 years.

I'd say Hard Rock Park would be on that list.

I am not sure which ones. But if six flags doesn't turn around it may divest itself of its' most unprofitable park(s). I have been impressed with the new president though. Hopefully, they will all remain open.

Lakemont Park (US)
Camelot Theme Park (UK)

I would not mind if CGA closed. Maybe they would send Firefall & Deleruim to Carowinds. I would also love to have our wave swinger back so they can bring that here as well and replace that joke of a ride YoYo. Or move YoYo somewhere else.

That's easy, Hard Rock Park. Shoot I barely give it two years, let alone any longer. All parks that were sold by Six Flags (In the US only) are pretty much in jeopardy too, IMO. California Great America was in jeopardy not long ago of their land being sold. That idea still has not been ruled out either. So I will put them on the list also.

Disagree with "the parks SF sold"

I went to Darien Lake last fall after it was no longer a Six Flags park.. And there were way more people in the park than my 2005 trip to the park (when it was still under the Six Flags name) - Also Frontier City doesn't seem to be doing too bad, although I've never been so I can't say for sure.

I think Six Flags signed an Agreement with PARC Management that They will operate for 20+ Years and 3 10 Year Renewal Oppertunities.

Btw, James I thought of Chessington because within 10-20 Miles of the Park are 2 Parks owned by the Same Owner (Merlin Entertainments) which are Legoland and Thorpe Park. Chessington was modifield into a Kids Park when Thorpe was Purchased and with Legoland as a Kids/ Family Park. I wonder.

Let's go with a split. Darien Lake may be doing good but how about we look at Elitch Gardens and former SFWOA. Elitch Gardens is land locked, which means expansion is not possible. AKA, a substantial amount of new GOOD rides will be minimal at best. SFWOA, well we know what happened to that place. Frontier City; never been, but we all can agree that it isn't on most peoples list of places to visit, unless they live close to the area.

I'd be surprised if Geauga Lake Wildwater Kingdom makes it through next year.

I'd say Geauga Lake, Six Flags America, California's Great Adventure & Hard Rock Park are all closed by end of season 2010.

I hate the idea of speaking the names of any places, but the thoughts danced around many of the names you guys mentioned. I want to see what Hard Rock Park does in Year 2. If anything I'll have to go on an emergency visit if the situation forces me. That park ties the two interests I have.

I know Hard Rock Park is not doing the numbers they expected in attendance but I don't agree with those who say that it could be closed in five to ten years (or less). Personally I just think that they are having a hard time because theme parks is not a venture the company has ever tempted before. As stated by other theme park officials sometimes you get into trouble when you leave your core product for a new venture. So I think they can definitely still save Hard Rock Park. Plus just because they are not doing expected attendance does not mean they are not turning a profit! Just my thought though.

Hard Rock Park could be around for a long time if they get all the bugs worked out. Mainly the attendance price needs to drop atleast $15 and maybe add 1-2 major flats in the next year. They also need a completely new ad campaign. If nothing changes from year one then they will be in trouble.

The main reason their attendance was so bad was price and not to mention the set the attendance goal way too high in the first place.

Elitch Gardens Might be land locked but with some planing there is room for a few new attractions. they could even fit in a major coaster is it was planed right. also there is really no competition on the amusement park side so they don't need new rides every year. every 2-3 would be fine. In some cases less popular rides can be replaced with newer rides. I doubt it will be going anywhere. in fact they are installing a new dark ride.

Frontier City like all the PARC properties is a regional park. they aren't looking to draw people in from across the country. They are trying to keep the locals safe. But with a new Dark ride and coaster I think they are in it for the long haul.

I also saw a mention about SFKK. why would it close? the land is owned by the fair grounds and the original owners want to buy it back. So i don't see it going anywhere soon.

As for my list and why:
Six gun City(Jefferson, NH) a long history of not adding attractions. While the recent coaster addition is nice the admission price is too high for what they offer. If they don't expand it will fail.

Astroland - They are being forced out. even if the City can keep them on site they will still eventually close when something new is added.

American adventure(GA) it sat SBNO for 08 it's only a matter of time before SFI ships the rides off to other properties and expand the water park.

Okay.. so the company has not made the venture before.. but the managers and CEO's have previous themepark experience. They should have known better than to have started out with the opening and closing times, as well as the entrance fee. They slapped up some better-than-mediocre rides, tacked on a crazy entrance fee, and expected people to flock to it. I think they can survive.. but it will be a longshot.

Ok, well, here we go.

Six Flags parks that have been sold are always in Jeopardy. For example, Cedar Fair acquired Six Flags Worlds of Adventure (Geagua Lake) in 2004 and it was closed in 2007. Alot of Six Flags parks that are sold are in jeopardy, but if alot of work is put into it, they can remain. Darien Lake is doing pretty good.

I can say, alot of people will miss Geagua Lake and its rides, and hopefully Big Dipper is saved. But here we go....

Hard Rock Park is in SERIOUS Jeopardy. Unless it is sold to a company that can take really good care of it....I doubt that this park will last.

California's Great America will be safe as long as the land is not sold.

There's actually a huge difference with that nametag(eyes are shooting fire). Great America and Great Adventure never cross paths. Maybe if SFGADV still had its Shockwave standup like CGA has as a headliner. It was always the Paramount's Great America(mediocre) compared to its Six Flags Great America sibling. SFGADV and SFGAM stand out in their own rights as players in their own markets, major legs to the company.

Reading the 'Scape the last few months. American Adventures, which I didn't know existed til last year when I read the back of the Six Flags season pass was sold before this last season to another company.

Yeah, what Leo C said... there is actually a HUGE difference between the two. At least Great Adventure has a worth while roller coaster (it's actually plural) that has been built within the last 10 years. Not to mention the Six Flags Great America is quite the stellar park compared to the Cedar Fair one. Cedar Fair one is like the neglected step sister sort of speak. So I would NEVER say, "same difference". Yes, that is my opinion, how many would disagree?

I would love to see WhiteWater expanded. Maybe some of the rides from AA will go to SFOG if they do close.

What a depressing topic. I'd rather spend my time using forums to discuss posite things and possibly help any parks that may be lurking to be sucessful. I rather not engage is predicting the demise of parks and businesses.

It's already been hard on us so I don't want to create another whirlwind. We can't deny, we all know the mess is out there but I don't want to stir it. Andrew would probably say we wouldn't want more Geauga like lunatics.

This sounds like an off season topic.

What is wrong with their ad campaign? I never saw commercials or billboards due to my location I only get the parks email newsletter so I really don't have clue what it was.
