Six Flags 2002

I was thinking about this topic idea for awhile. Anyway 2002 was the last year Six Flags Built/Added a New Park to the Chain. Around 2004, they started selling off parks. Anyway, What Parks would you have sold or Gotten Rid of? This is not made to start rumors or Anything, I just want to see People's Thoughts to this:

The 2002 Parks Were (Ordered Chronologically)

1961 : Six Flags Over Texas
1967 : Six Flags Over Georgia
1971 : Six Flags St. Louis
1975 : Six Flags Astroworld
1977 : Six Flags Great Adventure
1979 : Six Flags Magic Mountain
1984 : Six Flags Great America
1990 : Frontier City
1992 : Six Flags America
1995 : Six Flags Darien Lake
1995 : Six Flags Worlds Of Adventure
1995 : Wyandot Lake
1996 : Six Flags Fiesta Texas
1996 : Six Flags Elitch Gardens
1996 : Great Escape
1997 : Six Flags New England
1997 : Six Flags Marine World
1997 : Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom
1999 : American Adventures
2000 : Wild Waves & Enchanted Village
2002 : Jazz Land

1977 : Six Flags Wild Safari Animal Park

1991 : White Water Bay, OK
1995 : Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, LA
1995 : Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, TX
1996 : Water World, Concord
1996 : Water World, Sacramento
1999 : Splash Town, Houston
1999 : White Water, Atlanta
2000 : Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, NJ

1998 : Walibi Aquitaine
1998 : Walibi Rhone Alps
1998 : Walibi Lorraine
1998 : Six Flags Belgium
1998 : Six Flags Holland
1998 : Bellewaerde
1999 : Warner Bros. Movie World, Germany
1999 : Six Flags Mexico
2001 : La Ronde
2002 : Warner Bros. Movie World, Spain

I Would have Kept:

- 1961 : Six Flags Over Texas
- 1967 : Six Flags Over Georgia
- 1971 : Six Flags St. Louis
- 1975 : Six Flags Astroworld
- 1977 : Six Flags Great Adventure

- 1984 : Six Flags Great America
- 1995 : Six Flags Worlds Of Adventure
- 1996 : Six Flags Fiesta Texas

I don't really get your topic. yes the last park they were involved in building was WBMW Spain. But they had little to do with it. The last park SFI actually built was SFStL which if your date is right was 71. Every thing after that was purchased, the parks were preexisting.

as for the dates many of them are a bit of to when they became a SFI flagged property.

Most of the European parks are smaller. The only ones I woudl have kept are the 2 movie world parks and Holland. as for the US parks Premier bought too much at too high a price and creating debt up to their eyeballs.

I think the ones they sold were a good move. I wish they didn't close Astroland.

as for anything left I woudl expect them to sell SFAm, SFKK, and possibly TGE. they will likely hold onto the remaining parks till they go bankrupt.

I would keep:
SFOT
SFOG
SFStL
SFGAdv
SFMM
SFFT

SFHH-TX
SFHH-NJ
SFHH-LA
SFWW-Atl

Selling all the other parks should help tremedously with their debt and keep them in business.

^I agree completely. I probably wouldn't decrease the company that much, but I would bring it down to about 15 parks.

I'm not sure I understand the topic, but I will say this.

I feel like the only way this company is going to survive is by selling their parks to decrease their debt. This company is just too big and they're just not good enough at what they do.

Maybe in 10 years they can start buying parks again, but in my opinion the company is too big and its unnecessary. Its operations costs are through the roof. Its much easier to increase customer satisfaction in a dozen parks than 20. Its much easier to bring quality back to the parks by face-lifting 1/2 of the dozen parks, instead of retrofitting tiny increments of 20 parks little by little.

I didn't want to go back in time. In 2002 SFGADV had a year of multi ethnic festivals through out the summer weeks. Time Warp on the Lakefront was gone. It became a stage and general area for these festivals.

I've said before I prize the Time Warner Era of parks, what I call the core, then only SFDK and SFNE of the Premier Era additions.

What would you guys propose they do with Jazz Land (Six Flags New Orleans)? Last I heard, they were still in a battle with the city of New Orleans over what they could do with the land ... NOLA is trying to use their contract to force them to rebuild, SFI claims insurance complications (the park was mostly destroyed by Katrina, and those rides that could have been saved are probably beyond repair by now due to complete neglect) but wants to get rid of the park as evidenced by their removal of signs and some rides. Overall, it's just a giant drain on their finances and another sore spot in the NOLA rebuild.

Should they try and wiggle out of the contract and sell it for whatever they can get? Or use the insurance money (if/when they have it) to rebuild and try to turn a profit from the attention they could garner? Imagine the ad campaign ... what was once just another Katrina casualty, now a shining gem of the south.

(This is a pic I took a year after the storm of the then un-touched park)

Understatement much?

Well SFI is obligated to rebuild the park. As for rides they have removed many rides form other SFI parks they could transplant into SFNO to freshen it up. In all I would hope that they would give up the property, the extra land, and give over the majority of the insurance and allow NOLA to get it opened and run through another company.

^ In A Conference call a while ago, Shapiro says that they have no plan to rebuild NO and NO does not expect to have them back.

Maybe I listened to another conference call but It also referred to the Obligation to fix the park.

IF they want out of their contract they will need to do something.

Here are the parks I would have kept:

Six Flags Magic Mountain

Six Flags Over Texas

Six Flags Great America

Six Flags Over Georgia

Six Flags Great Adventure

And then that way they would not loose so much money, keep the big parks, be able to add giant new rides, and maybe even by-out better parks like lets say... Hard Rock Park, and then add lots of new coasters.

If Six Flags were to buy HRP, they would be advertising it, which would increase attendance. But, Six Flags can't buy HRP so it doesn't matter.

Oh, yeah, forgot about SF Mexico. Great Park, and they should keep it.

Also, does anyone know about SF Dubai, and if so, does it look good?

Nothing has been done for that project yet. It's not on the top of the list of things to get done and even they are funding into financing problems.

the other thing about SFI even looking at HRP is it's fairly close to SFOG. I think the best US chain to but HRP woudl be PARC. the company that bought the other SFI parks. they just bought another company so they own 2 nearby attractions. Could advertise all 3 attractions together.
