Rank your '08 Six Flags Playtime

Ever since Mr. Six debuted in the offseason I've asked TNers to rank their Six Flags Playtime experience in the past season. I almost let it go this off season but with the return of Mr. Six I had to bring this back. I should have done this earlier because this year it should be even easier to rank your experience. With 2008's "Six Flags: More Flags, More Fun" campaign with the screaming Asian guy, we have our new ranking scale: "One Flag!" to "Six Flags! More Flags, More Fun!" Rank away my peers.

I only went to one Six Flags park in 08 (Discovery Kingdom), and absolutely loved it.
Even though a V2 was closed for the Christmas event, it was a ton of fun. The rides were great, the shows were awesome, and the animal exhibits were really nicely done.
Plus, feeding the dolphins was really cool.

Overall I had a good but shorter season with SFGADV. The Dark Knight individually I gave a 3 Flags. I don't like the stomach lining ripping turns of a typical wild mouse. That ride didn't have that. It was pretty smooth in turns, the drops still come as a surprise. I like the scaled scenary and light effects. I know it's a huge drop down from not having CHILLER and it's not Disney so I was fine with the attraction. It's my favorite Wild Mouse. As much as I hate the genre and didn't want it to come to the park I'm fine with it.

Overall I got on all the rides I typically get on in a season. I finally understood Blackbeard's Treasure Train new 2 cycle runs and reaped the benefits of a great coaster with a super short wait. I didn't see any of the things that were unique for 2008 like the Glo Parade at night but I like my daytimes at the park. I'm sorry Giant Teepee had to go; weather, age, and wear finally did it in. I moved on with the loss of CHILLER. I look forward to starting every season like I always do: going straight right to NITRO. It used to be CHILLER.

4 Flags = 2008

This year I may make my return to SFNE and/or GE.

Since late 2006, my home Six Flags(GADV) has only gotten better. This last year was amazing since my friends and I all had our licenses. Was Chiller's removal disappointing? Yeah, but not enough to hinder the overall experience of the park. Plus I had my first ever sky-coaster flight this year. 6 flags, easily. I'm hoping this year will be just as good if not better.

I didn't visit a Six Flags this past season, but I wanted to bring up the fact that thus far- most people I have heard from have at least a 'favorable' impression of Six Flags Parks- which is way up from the 'horrible' it was just a few years ago.

IMO- if the chain is winning back die-hard coaster fanatics who are usually quite critical they must be projecting a better image to GP guests as well which will benefit them greatly in the long run.

It is a testament to the current leadership, and IMO, Six Flags is on its way back up- watch out Cedar Fair- Six Flags actually has a brand image...

4 Flags. Mostly because I worked so much I didn't really get to enjoy the park. I think I only actually played in the park twice last season. Every other day I was working, or taking a break from the place because I was working 8-10 hour days, 6 days a week for a lot of the summer. Kinda sucks when the seasons before I made a point of making playdates for myself where I would pack clothes in the car and go in the park after work. But perpetual night shifts and doubles kill that.

I am going with 4 flags. I visited my local area park Great Adventure numerous times, and spent an afternoon at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom.

Notes on both: Great Adventure seemed more well staffed and maintained better than in prior years. I personally saw less breakdowns of Kingda Ka and El Toro than in prior years, and for once, Chiller didn't sit idle for most of the season Security also seemed to be better, which cut down on the line cutting. The negatives, of course, are the lack of flat rides. I don't know what is going on here. At this point I'll take any flat rides designed for adults. Also, Rolling Thunder should have both sides open at the same time, and it needs alot of work. I believe they are fixing RT during the offseason (over a few years) which is good, but I'd like to see both sides open more.

Kentucky Kingdom: I was actually pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the rollercoasters more than I thought I would; Greezed Lightnin' was neat and Thunder Run was a great surprise. I've never heard anything about this ride before and it was extremely good. Of course, the negative for me was seeing Twisted Twins in the background and not being able to ride it. Very disappointing. I really wonder if these will ever open again, considering no one seems to have any information on them.

Can't wait for April....

In 2003 Thunder Run was a pleasant surprise to me and I am happy to hear that in 2008 it sounded quite the same in delivering it.

SFOG treated us like royalty when we were there for ACE's Coaster Con in June. That was a wonderful place.

SFNE was also quite the experience for ACE's Preservation Conference.

One disappointment for me with SF last summer was LaRonde. No sense of urgency with the staff there. I am hoping it is better when ACE pays a visit this September.

Oh.. and SFKK..... wow... only redeeming feature to that park was Greezed' Lightning. Park was empty all day so at least I had no waits..

Based off my Great Adventure trips (4) I'd say 4 or 5. Toro was always open.. And thats mostly what I care about. Although on my August trip I was with someone who had never been.. And Nitro was down almost the whole time we were there.. So he never got on it. As far as flats go.. I don't really ride any of them at Gadv anymore as they removed most of the ones I liked.. And the one I wanted to do ALL SEASON (Ferris Wheel) was always closed.. I last got to ride it in......2005.

Based off my 1 yearly trip to SFA.. I'd give it a 4... But I was upset with TwoFace closed.. As I really liked the ride and was looking forward to it. Once more I was with a friend who had never been to the park before.. And just started getting into coaster (this was his first ""coaster trip"" too).. And he didn't get to ride it. But the rest of the park was fine... As it almost always is.

And then we get to the only other SF park I visited last year (Never got around to LR or TGE like I have in the past few years...)

SFNE... Its hard not to low rate it.. Just because the mass number of visits.. And how it never seemed to get better.. Only worse.. or back to a higher "low"

I can honestly say... SFNE is a TWO. So many trips with so many closed rides... AWFUL program on he topspin the whole season.> And then it was closed and "winterized" the last month of the season.. Scream didn't run combo AT ALL!>. And once more.. started to 'winterize" before the season was even over!.. Catapult had lots of downtime... like every other year. Batmans load time are still insanely terrible... I don't get how in the past 5-6 years they haven't worked it out yet!

And then we get down to TIME WARP being removed for seemingly NO reason.. Having been open all the beginning of the season.. Never saw it closed.. All the sudden its removed? Nightwing never reopenes.. After going down mid-season 2007!... Then its just removed in the fall. And this was also the season where Rodeo (Breakdance) and Double Trouble (Inverter) were removed before the season started...

And then we get to my FAVORITE part of 2008..... DARK KNIGHT COASTER!... What a disaster SFNE....

That's troubling for my future experiences at SFNE. It's turned into SFGADV without the flats now. The Double Trouble was a unique Vekoma ride I liked. Scream being in combo mode really made up for the worst line in the park: Batman The Dark Knight. Imagine waiting at least a half hour-45 minutes for Hydra. Can't do, given both rides' genuine mediocrity. SFNE's Topspin probably has the same lame program as SFGADV's and most of the chain. That's the reason I dislike Voodoo, the Topspin at SFDK. I thought with the palm trees next to Voodoo it would be one of the more intense ones. Nightwing was quite unique. It sounds like the park only improved from my last visit in 2007 I'd say to get a new chain for SROS. I guess I can still get the Great Chase and Kontiki finally the next time I visit in this year or the next most probably since I knew they wanted to take that flat out the last few seasons.

I went to Six Flags Magic Mountain (after vowing to never set foot in a SF park, because of how they were at GL/SFWoF/GL/WWK)... but anyhow I broke down and decided to go to SFMM (since someone paid for my ticket), and I had a blast.

Got to ride X2 which was CRAZY, the second scariest coaster I have been on (besides Millennium Force front seat) and it was just amazing. I ended up going a second time, and If I would have stayed in CALI longer would have ended up buying a season pass.

Hoping to go back this season and taking my dad along.

I had a blast as usual at Fiesta Texas; I give it a SIX as I've done every year!

Six Flags! More Flags, More Fun -- The Best, Supreme!

A side note: Were the other parks in the chain really horrendous in the past? It seems my home park (SFFT) was left out of the group....I have yet to have a bad experience there (been going to the park every year since 1995), and I have yet to read a negative review of the park. I guess I shouldn't complain.

^ I don't believe SFFT was in that group... I would consider it one of the jewels in SF's crown.

Fiesta Texas is a jewel that stayed bright. Great Adventure is a jewel that's recently regained it's luster. As for the other jewels, I'll let others speak, lol.

I put a 5 mainly becuase I only made it to my home park all year. I also went to CGA a few times but I'm only rating my 6 Flags experience. Well SFDK did recieve a new Tony Hawk coaster so it was a desent year. Should be even beter this year because I'll not only be working at the park but I'm going on the TPR Texas trip!
