I actually dont think it is a bad name, but i do think it could be better of course

The FP in FPI stands for Freestyle Park so it must be a brand name

I read this article about the whole new name and park owners. I know the name is silly but from this article and others I have read today it seems like they know what they are doing or at least have a good plan. I understand the name since the one they are doing in Russia is Freestyle Park they just added the music to the name here. Stupid name but it makes since a little.

Russia brought the money for the down payment basically and already had the Freestyle name on that property there. From the interview article I read with Mr. Baker it seemed like a Plan B name after trying to get the Hard Rock name to return.

That makes sense but form the get go they should have been thinking of a plan B name. Not throwing on together after the HR deal fell through.

I'm not a big fan of the new name either. I think it may change again next year if they come up with a new one. They also mentioned that there may be more parks in the making.

I expect the Freestyle side of the name would stay if there would be another change in the future. In this Bizarro year we're in what if they do good? There needs to be suitors for the other chains that are looking to sell and in trouble. I'm still looking to come down quick in case failure comes again.

Playing music on my computer right now I wonder: Did the old HRP have tvs in stores and queues playing the HRC content of live music/videos I find in a typical Hard Rock Cafe that I enjoy watching, listening to? Today I got an authentic HRP preview shirt I won on Ebay. I also won a Park pin. It will be amongst my most prized Hard Rock pins, next to the HR Orlando pin I have with a red rollercoaster.

Not sure if they had any Videos playing. I don't remember anything like that in any Trip Reports.

Just to throw out an idea, Eagles Life In The Fast Lane should be renamed back to Midnight Rider and themed to the song "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by Charlie Daniels Band, if they can afford licensing. I think the theme would be perfect for the coaster.

As good as it is I doubt you will ever see the midnight rider name on anything in the park. That was a name and theme from the original planers. The Devil went down the Georgia might work well with a dueling attraction. I think we might see a few years without naming rights. The goal right now is to open and keep the park going.

The Midnight Rider name was never used. At least not when the park opened.

It was a pre-opening name used at the Preview Center. I bet it falls very squarely under Goodwin's HRPUSA Creative company's intellectual property (I really hated typing that).

Yes it would ( I also hate typing it also)

Seems the name is not very well liked. A local paper did a servery and 18% dislike the name.

Read more on the name at the Sun News site.

A good article about the plans of the park and the name.

Freestyle is not so bad. It isn't any worse than 'worlds of wonder' or 'kings dominion'. Kings Dominion is kind of a pointless name now since the parks has not had a Lion in 15 years.

I don't remember what was playing on the video monitors at HRP. I took my son there, twice, last August...just weeks before it closed. Glad we got to go. It's a great little park and, contrary to what someone else posted here, it had a nice layout...all of the major walkways all led you back to the entrance area. Yeah, there were dead ends, but those dead ends generally had some kind of interactive display or benches to sit on.

The Nights in White Satin dark ride was something better experienced in person than watching those lame videos on YouTube. The videos do not capture the three-d or full audio experience nor can they relay the overall weirdness of the ride. It was one of the more interesting dark rides I have ridden. Of course, my 11 year old was clueless about the ride. And that is fine.

Led Zepp was a bit uncomfortable toward the end of the ride. It is a decent enough coaster, but the last third is kind of rough if you have a bad back like I do. The first half, though, is great and makes up for the roughness at the end.

For an old goat like me, the park was full of things that I remembered from the seventies, but my son had virtually no clue about most of the references. And Led Zeppelin was a royal pain in the butt just to get on: on a day where the staff outnumbered the patrons like three to one, we still had to wait more than five minutes to get on an empty coaster. It was myself and three other people. After walking through a queue that was way too long, we then had to walk into a small hallway where the doors at both ends were shut. Then we watched this five minute film about Led Zepplin. It featured interview footage and concert footage. Something that should have been playing to the whole queue. After that, then we were ESCORTED to our train. THEN we rode. Entirely too long. I could not imagine what an ordeal it would be to actually have to wait in a long line THEN see the stupid movie THEN ride the ride. But, that was probably the worst of the park. The rest was fine.
MAX RPM, the ONLY ride we had to wait in a fairly long line (i.e. more than three people), had a karaoke section where these very attractive young ladies would pull people out of line to sing. It was very entertaining and the young ladies were properly cute and flirtatious with everyone.

All in all, HRP was a fine little park. Not worth the old admission - which, btw, I didn't pay. They had a promotion where you could buy a five day pass for the price of a one day pass, so went twice and it ended costing about what one full paid admission would have been. Thirty dollars is about right for the park.

I'd rather do the Max RPM queue experience than the Led one. Please bring the girls back Freestyle.

geogray - Thanks for the report. I will always regret never experiencing Nights in White Satin. It was one of the things that most intrigued me about the park.

You are welcome. Nights was cool. I'm actually OK with the rebranding of the rides and park, but the loss of Nights is the one thing I wish would stay the same. I think the "hard rock" theme was cool, but, hopefully, the new company can come up with something equally good.

I just got my Hard Rock Park pin I bought off Ebay in the mail today. At work I told a customer that had a Myrtle Beach hat about the old park. It seems like he went last year to town but didn't know anything about it. He said he stayed in the southern part of town. I told him about the rebrand. I do my word of mouth part but it's not enough clearly.

Word of moth is always good. I hope the new owners get on top of marketing. it's pretty bad that someone would be in the area and not know about the park.

I saw that too. Looks like the new owners actually know what to do to get this park running smoothly. More than 12 rides, or however many they have.

ya the article dose have a lot of good info. The ride count stinks the challenge after surviving is to expand in a park that is lacking in rides and lacking in space.

The third of Cypress Gardens was getting wiped out. I wish there was something left Baker could bring up to add that third in MB.

Check out any of the used ride sites. there are some really good rides out there. They will get a rehab before getting added anyways.

It's going to be called Kids in America. It looks like there will be new flat rides not carnival rides thrown together. The park also released an updated logo, featuring the one debuted previously but now with the shape of a guitar pick.

I told one coworker about my planned trip to there. She's a GP non inverting girl that said she would go based on the new name.

This site has been covering the Park for quite a while. They have a thread about today's press conference, the debut of Kids in America.http://discovermyrtlebeachforum.com/...t=0&#entry7819

I posted a story for us as well now.

Thanks: here is anotehr article - Former Hard Rock Park installing four new children's rides | The Herald - Rock Hill, SC

4 new rides to be added:

Get Off My Cloud( Zamperla Samba Tower) - a spinning tower ride with spinning tubs. My home park Canobie lake has one it's a lot of fun.

Fly Like An Eagle (Zamperla Kite Flyer) - this is a small ride that you ride in teh flying position. really good movement. Rye Playland has one.

Wheels In The Sky (Zamperla Magic Bike) - Introduced a couple years ago it's a traditional ride with an interactive element.

Life Is A Highway (Zamperla Convoy) - This is the same system used in the big red car rides and other small car rides.

So I like that they are making the investment in the childrens area which is needed. Anyone think or know if they will be adding anything for the rest of us? I'm sure it'll happen later on but I wonder about the sooner.

Those 4 rides will run them around 1.5 Million after installation. they still have a good bit of rethemeing to do so I don't think we will see any thrill rides but an adult can ride any one of the rides. The Samba tower, and Kite Flyer are very comfortable for adults to ride. I woudl imagine the Magic Bikes are also. So if you go I woudl recommend the Samba tower and the Kite Flyer.
