I just saw this and thought this was some kind of joke or mistake. I mean, how could Cedar Fair start to build what could be one of the greatest wooden coasters and then turn around and sell it? Well, I guess it was something to try to persuade potential buyers. But still, why these parks?!

I will not be quite as sad if they just "sell" it to another company.
But If thry "GL" it! I WILL START AN ANGRY MOB AGAINST CEDAR FAIR!!!!!
Hopefully our Hypers are not the rumored hypers for carowinds and KD.

I'm pretty surprised Valleyfair and World's of Fun made that list. Great America is completely understandable though. But, both VF and WOF have decent arrangements of rides, and have been given some very nice capital investments over the most recent years. If they were to sell anything else in addition I figured it would be Ghettowinds or Michigan's Adventure, as they have been the most mistreated parks in the chain.

I'm not really surprised. I knew about them wanting to adjust their dividend, what they pay out to investors. I knew about the potential sale to the 49ers of CGA. Cedar Fair exploring the further sale of other properties, that's news. It's what Six Flags did a couple years ago. The balloon of debt for both chains is big. Six Flags was first to enter the cycle and they were lucky enough to sell GL to CF so that CF was part of their parachute to help pay for some debt.

I'm going to change the title.

Let's say KD gets a hyper in 2011 or 2012 and CF sells WOF and VF in the next year I would be willing to bet Mamba or Wild Thing goes to KD.

BUT.....

I honestly think they will try and sell them to someone who wants to continue running it as a park and not go all Geauga Lake on them. The only park i see CF shutting down and tearing out rides would be CGA.

I'd be happy for Carowinds to take Firefall & Delerium. Oh and we need our swings back as well.

I think that's jumping the gun and making it just about worthy of being demoted to the rumors section if you're going to assume Cedar Fair will cannibalize like GL the properties it's only exploring to sell. Elitch Gardens and Frontier City just moved into their new property owner's hands.

That would be a great way to exit the small issue of very lame Cedar Fair like park logos.

Valleyfair really surprises me since it was one of their two original parks.

The land around Canada's Wonderland has got to be extremely valuable, but I really hope they don't sell too much of it. I'd love to see them eventually put a hotel in there or expand the park a bit more.

Yeah that land around CW could prove useful for CF in the long run. All I know is that the VF and WOF are the more insignificant parks in CF's line up. CW is probably going to be getting a large investment for its 30th anniversary in 2010 0r 2011.

I would have figured Michigans Adventure would have been up for sale other than VF or WoF....

Michigan's Adventure needs a buyer that will build the park up a bit faster.

I cant believe CF is even thnking about this. Why did they even bother buying all of those paramount parks only to turn around and sell them a year later?

So far it would be one Paramount Park and two of their interior pre Paramount parks. With CF shadowing SF in debt I'm not suprised they're going to try to sell parks, it just when that surprised me. Now is Kinzel a bald guy with black glasses and a bow tie? I bet he can't dance.

I was a bit shocked to hear this news. I could almost see one park, CGA. But not 3. I was especially shocked that they are selling VF the park they teamed up with to form Cedar Fair. I know that in resent years the central US parks have seen low attendance. Carowinds as much as some posters say is run down is a well attended park.

This may be more of a ploy then anything else. see if anyone is really interested. but show that the company is taking cutting it's debt head on. the image of it alone might help their dropping stock.

Good job Cedar Fair, no no wait, let me get my ass up, hold on, ahh, standing ovation for you, there ... So this is your game? Move in on small parks, throw some dollars at them, maybe a hyper and a B&M invert, but at the cost of Zambezi Zinger and Orient Express? Now the park is no longer . . "attractive to you" . ., go on, we don't mind, in fact we love that stain you left on the couch, the one you call Boomerang.

Ahh who cares, let's all go to CP and forget about this.

It made more sense this year as I followed the construction of Prowler just how amazing Zinger and OE looked at WoF. A boomerang does not make up the gaping hole.

They are a business. They exist to make money.

The fact that Valleyfair! was the company's second park means absolutely nothing.

If selling off Valleyfair! means they can bring themselves a little bit out of the red, get better financing on their loans, and convince their shareholders that they're doing everything in their power...they're going to do it.

None of the Paramount Parks they purchased are considered being sold. Just Valleyfair! and Worlds of Fun. Great America has already been on the hot table for unloading since the NFL wanted to build a stadium on the park's car lot.

With the economy in its current condition and multiple park operators either going bankrupt (or close to being so) or selling OFF properties, I highly doubt that. Park operators across the board are struggling. Right now is not the moment to spend millions in financed loans to acquire properties that will only add to any debt load.

You have to consider that Michigans Adventure is of considerably less value than Valleyfair! or Worlds of Fun.

The whole point of selling parks is to bring in a significant amount of cash on hand to cut down the debt, thus bringing down interest rates.

Valleyfair! and Worlds of Fun are worth enough to consider selling for a premium price, are attractive enough (in terms of assetts) for a potential buyer (if they can even find one), but are not Cedar Fair's top performing parks so they are not a big loss.

I just learned about CF's history with Valleyfair!'s contribution to the name but I sure don't expect them to change their name when/if they sell the park. I guess if there was an included "!" that would have made all the difference. haha.

Wasn't PARC an interested partner for Hard Rock Park recently but asked for more government assistance and eventually pulled out?

I beleive you are correct on this one.

While selling parks could be Cedar Fair's fastest way to reduce debt is right now the best time to get the most money for them. While the added money would help now, wouldn't a year from now be a better time to possibly get more money from the deal?

yes they were.

I think PARC will be considering the 2 parks. they have made solid investments wince buying the SFI parks. I think the parks woudl add a lot to their line up. and with PARC owning the NAscar Speed parks i think incoming retinue won't be a problem.

WOF would be a great park for the company that owns Dollywood or maybe the Schlitterbahn family could venture into the amusement business.

Hersheld Would likely do a lot fo good for either of the parks. They do tend to go for more themeing but that can be added over time.

No, I didn't misread.

Where's the "huge difference?" Any person would tell you that an INTEREST would be a precursor to the act of making a purchase. Duh.

If you weren't interested in purchasing a park, then why would you be INTERESTED? You're making no sense. A retort for the sake of retort? Come on DHollon.

Huge difference? More like, they go hand-in-hand.
