Long Lost Parks

I havent seen anything on this so I desided to start a thread dedicated to long gone amusement parks that aren't in the history books. A good example... Boblow Island! It's a park that used to be near Detroit and is now gone, propably forever! Yet very few remember it or know anything about it. At least now everyone who reads this will know there was a Boblow Island.
Post on any park that was once near you! ( If it's not mentioned in the books cause' we all know about Riverveiw and the old Conay Island parks. Also you can post what you know about other parks mentioned.

There was once a Busch Gardens Houston. It was before I was born, but I know of it's existance, and it was in my area.

I do belive that Bolbo Island was in Canada, and closed in 93 or 94.

Happyland was lost due to fire a long time ago (i know the person who lite it up too), but Playland currently stands in its place.

I was supposed to go to Boblo Island with my grandparents when I was like 5, but while we were on the plane they surprised my sister and I by telling us we were going to Disney World (not that I cared either way, being only 5 and not really liking my grandparents in the first place). Wasn't it sort of both in the US and in Canada, being on the island and all?

There used to be a boardwalk in San Francisco with a rollercoaster and all. I've seen pics. Now on the same site is low-income housing.

There used to be a roller coaster on Jacksonville Beach, and I have an older postcard with it -- you can identify right where it was by some buildings and so forth that are still there today. It was razed in the late '70s or early '80s, I believe, having talked to some people that were lucky enough to ride it.

Boardwalk and Baseball in Florida, Idora in Youngstown, Euclid Beach Park in Cleveland. These are all parks that were great in their own way and are all missed.

I know of Frontier Land and Legend City in the Phoenix area. There's also Coney Island in Ohio (which PKI has a section of park dedicated to it, I believe). Those are all I can think of. I don't have any information about the ones in Arizona.

Boblo (I had to CRINGE when I saw that mispelling of a childhood memory!!) is an island, but was Canadian. Ferry boats took passengers to Boblo from docks in Detroit, Wyandotte (south of Detroit), and from the Canadian side of the river. My brother and I made yearly trips to Boblo from 1966 through 1972 (church group or school). I went one time when the park was going through it's "revitalization". I was disappointed when one of the owners had to bow out after he was seriously hurt in an accident and could no longer help run the park. It was down hill after that.

Two more parks in the Detroit area that are less known than Boblo (except by us old farts) were Edgewater Park in Detroit, and Walled Lake Amusement Park in Walled Lake (west of Detroit, in Oakland County). Walled Lake closed down in the early to mid 60's. Edgewater closed in the early 70's.

I did have a chance to go to Rocky Point(its in Warwick RI). It was a great small family park. The Arrow Corkscrew was one of the best I had riden. It is now at Six Flags Enchanted Village in WA, as Wild Thing. They also had a long Arrow Log Flume ride that had to be the best on made. Two lift hills!
