uh, guys (and ladies)? hannibal lector is a fictional character. he is LOOSELY based on Albert Fish, a serial killer from the 1930s who murdered and consumed more than a few young women in his day.

me? i'd go off the list and go for Edward Gacy because killer clowns simply scare the pants of me. and maybe the zodiac killer, simply because of the intricate nature of the crimes and how they all lead up to a unifying theme.

I don't know if the recent DC area sniper is considered a serial killer, but that was pretty scary when all of thsoe shootings were happening. Jack the Ripper is pretty creepy, because they never found him. BTW, did they ever catch the Zodiac Killer.

OK, seriously folks, the Zodiac Killer was never caught, and is definitely one of the smartest serial killers out there. Theodore Kaczynski was a very well educated man, and believed to be straddling the line of genius/insanity. My pick would have to be this guy (the movie that Red Dragon was based on) who lived in Texas, I forget his name, and he removed his victims eyes with an exacto knife so delicately, you wouldn't know the eyes were missing unless you pulled back the eyelids. The guy who did the first autopsy didn't realize they were gone until he tried to examine the eyes...they werent there.
