| manufacturer with roughest rides
Which coaster manufacturer do you think makes the roughest rides? Arrow: Their looping coasters are known for headbanging....GASM, Shockwave, Steel Phantom, the corkscrew and loopscew models, Anaconda, Drachen Fire, etc. are all often grilled by enthusiasts for their roughness. Their hypers are known to be tempermental too. I don't think Arrows are that rough myself, prehaps thats because I am rather tall and thus the restraints are more near my neck than my ears. Vekoma: They are usually cited when roller coaster pain comes up. They make the infamous SLCs - "hang and bang" as referred to by enthusiasts - and the Boomerangs, also not known to be the smoothest creations in the world. Their loopers can be rough too....Gouderix and the Ninja rides are all very rough. However, they may be getting better....the flyers,LIM bowls, Invertigos, and Super Invertigos are all pretty smooth. Intramin: Make very smooth coasters now, but some of their older ones can be a pain....the infamous Flashback, Psyclone, B:TE, and Indiana Jones: Temple of Peril at Disneyland Paris are all cited as being extremely rough. Their new rides run smooth though. TOGO: The worst offender in my opinion. I have never ridden any ride of theirs that can be called even remotely smooth. Their seats and restraints are like torture racks, and they do not bank their track enough. Somers&Dinn: Known for rough woodies. Mean Streak has a rather bad reputation, Rattler@SFFT and Predator@SFDL both gave me headaches, and Hercules is so bad that many, including myself, refer to it as Jerkules. B&M: Yeah, some people will vote them just to be sarcastic. They make the smoothest rides in the industry. The only coasters I have ridden of theirs that are somewhat rough are their older standups. RCCA: They have only made one coaster that has been in the coaster limelight.....Son of Beast. It is one of my favorite woodies (albeit violent) but some enthusiasts say it is the roughest ride they have ever ridden. I think it just has bad days. Premier: With the new lapbars, they are as smooth as glass. With the OTSRs, they were known for being rather rough, and extremely rough in some cases, especially Joker's Jinx and the FoF rides. Thankfully, they have bucked the trend and are using lapbars now. Any others out there that have made a rough ride before......? I am voting for TOGO.

I'm going to have to say TOGO. Every ride of theirs seems to be a very rough headbanger, and from the rides of theirs that I have ridden I believe what everyone says. Vekoma also has some pretty rough rides, like the slc's (which I haven't ridden yet) and boomerangs. Those two companies seem the worse, but from what I hear, vekoma has cleaned up their act and are making smoother rides.

Although not all TOGOs are rough, some of their coasters in Japan are really smooth, since they made Windjammer, the roughest coaster I've ever ridden, I'll say TOGO.

I'm also going to jump on the band wagon with saying that Togo is the roughest. I rode Manhatten Express last year and, well, I couldn't belive that they charge $10 (I think it costs even more now) to ride that super-headbanger. And to whoever said that they could barely stand B&Ms like Montu, DD, Kumba, etc... lol. Nice joke. |

TOGO is the easy winner. Just look at their vehicles and track design, and you know you're in for a rough ride. Compare their spine/tie assembly to that of arrow/vekoma (very similar track, moderate offenders with Vekoma being slightly worse), compared to B&M and Giovanola (smoothest), and you can really see a difference. My ranking of steel brands from smoothest to roughest: Giovanola, B&M, Intamin, Arrow (new), Premier, Arrow (old), Vekoma, TOGO. I didn't put on the old Intamin or Schwartzkopf because they really depend more on the park's maintenance, and I haven't ridden many in that category anyway.

Premier. They made the roughest coaster I have ever been on, Flight of Fear. Of course, that was before the lap bars.

Well, my vote goes to Meisho. I liked the TOGO's i went on (Windjammer and ME) but I've heard they are nothing compared to a Meisho.

That's a tough call. In the steel category ... The roughest coaster I've ridden (Shockwave @ PKD) was built by TOGO, so I would probably say them. But that's also the only TOGO I've been on, so it's hard to pass judgement on them. Premier comes in second, I guess. FOF (with OTSR) was the second-roughest coaster I've ridden. Of course, some of their other creations were really nice. I don't think Vekoma & Arrow are as bad as some people make them out to be. And the only Intamin's I've ridden were their bobsleds, so I won't comment on them. In the wooden category ... The only wooden coaster I've ever ridden that I didn't like was the Rattler @ Fiesta TX. So that gets tops in my category. I thought it was designed by John Pierce, though (not Summers & Dinn), but I could be mistaken.

I have never been on a TOGO.....Phew. I would have to say Vekoma, especially clones, Like Boomerangs and SLC's, I want to ride on a TOGO to see if they are really as bad as everyone says, how many are left anyways? I know that there aren't many left! I gotta go ride one! Nah, I don't want to ride one that bad!
