Jeez. A poll that's open for discussion and you start it with spam. Thanks, RCT Loser. Want to try posting something that matters? On-topic: I don't think height limits sucks. Height limits really help parks and coaster designers be more creative when they come up with rides, especially roller coasters. Sure, drop rides might not be too hot if a height limit is a little over 100 feet, but we all know roller coasters can be supreme at any height. Look at Alton Towers. Nemesis is rated one of the best coasters in Europe. And Oblivion has an enormous drop into a tunnel. AIR interacts with the terrain pretty well too.

No, I think it is perfectly fine if a park wants to built a 200 foot coaster in the glide-slope of a runway. Logic and safety be damned!

I don't have any problem with height limits -- all of life has to be balanced with everything around it, including cities, sound regulations, etc. I agree with Chip that it makes designers exercise more creativity in order to continue to advance the industry. Many great coasters aren't the tallest or fastest of their kind, and didn't hold those records when they opened, but that doesn't detract from them a bit.

If Alton Towers had height limits they wouldn't have Nemesis. I have yet to ride it but it looks like one heck of a ride. In cases like that I say height limits are a good thing.

V2kid allready annoyed me to death on the subject. They kind of suck, but then again, cities look at the city as a whole, not basing it around Amusement park. I think it's safer to have shorter coasters (sigh) then have only fly right smack into one.

Height limit in RCT? In real life? What?

I think city hieght limit as opposed to RCT, but I will answer both. In real life, no limits do not suck. I'd rather not have a 747 buzzing me as I go by strapped in by a lousy lapbar and seatbelt. As opposed in RCT, I think I have found that no matter the EIN rating, once a coaster hits a certain height, the peeps just will not ride it.

I think Alton is one of the only parks in the world that actually cares about getting big rides in with a really short height limit.
Originally posted by LoCoSuMo If Alton Towers had height limits they wouldn't have Nemesis.
your right. we would have nemesis being 60 feet taller and 15 mph faster. imagine how much better than would be.

Extra height and extra speed sometimes really doesn't matter. Especially in Nemesis' case, where stats don't make the ride.

SFOG would be able to get a coaster that is over 220 ft. if there was no height limit.

SFOG can get a 200+ foot coaster anyway... theyjust have to wrangle with an aeronautical study.

Speaking from a strictly coasters viewpoint, yes they do most of the time. Exception: Nemesis. They are useful when trying to save airplanes though. <2300th post

Well here in Orlando the coasters aren't near flight paths I don't think so they should be fine. I know this because I live right next to the airport and their ain't no coasters close to me...

I wish height limits werent in effect in certain places, I know how many people out there would dearly like to see a hyper in florida sometime. Alton Towers really has it tough, but it's amazing the extent that part has gone to remain modern, and what would a world be like without Nemesis?

I think height limits negatively affect parks. PGA is a perfect example. They have a flat terrain and a height limit to deal with in construction. Noise restrictions are in place for them also. I would say that height restrictions may improve creativity, but at the same time they hinder overall construction and possibilities. What if CP had a height restriction? To say that you just plain like height restrictions because they improve creativity is too general and probably not accurate.

if alton towers had no heighth limits, then the designers wouldn't have needed to dig out that awesome pit that it goes through. I don't think height limits matter, since height and speed don't make the ride.

How many times has this been said. It just needs a bright blinkin light on top to alert planes of the bigness of it. And I agree that the world without Nemesis would be exactly like the one with it...

AC, MF, Kumba...without the height and speed, you don't have these rides. You don't get the monster loops or huge drops from small coasters which these larger rides deliver. Height and Speed do matter a great deal. You're right, many good coasters are under 100 ft, but their maneuvers are what make these coasters great. The maneuvers are exclusive to that particular coaster. Have you ridden TTD? That ride is exclusively height and speed. Really this whole question results in a circular argument. There is no straight answer.
