Nokia N-Gage

Is anyone going to buy to Nokia N-Gage when it comes out in October?
I'm not going to buy it because I already own a cell phone.

It'll be expensive, I'm thinking - even with a service contract. This will be the first ever device consisting of an integrated mobile phone, MP3 player, and 3D graphics video gaming platform.

It's design is similar to the Nokia 3300 music phone, which is already being offered by Cingular Wireless. But the 3300 phone is all music and no console gaming.

i actually think the graphics are quite impressive i was surprised. It only costs £200 here as well quite cheap, i thought it was gonig to £400 or something. Expensive compared to gameboy, but gameboy dosn't have graphics like that...are those even 3d?

I got a 7210 now (got it before they started giving cameras away free though with it) but the contract is up for renewal soon. Really i want a camera/colour phone thats compact and lightweight, but i don't have a gameboy or similar so if this is free (with contract) i might consider it. Looks a bit bulky though, and it dosn't say if you can have camera or not (surprised if you couldn't as it has the colour screen and power to easily take one).

Hey Skye, I also have a 7210, been using it since last December. My firware is one of the earlier ones, so the screen flickers sometimes.

my screen works ok but is unreadable in sunlight. It is also very very slow. Often i press buttons rapidly to go through the menus and i have to wait for the phone to catch up. very anoying. Miss the point of shortcuts. It needs far more processing power or whatever it is phones have.

The screen isn't perfect (it has a "rainbow" effect in certain conditions) but i never had it flicker.

Also (and this affects all nokias i know) you STILL can't search by letters when sending a text. For example if you 200 names in your phone book with 20 "m"'s on it. You want to send a text to say "mike". You press send, it brings up box for phone number. You don't know the number of course, so you press search. Unlike the phone book, theres no alphabet search for some crazy reason, so you have to scroll through the ENTIRE list of names to get the name you want. This i find very anoying its the only bad thing about nokias.

No, I hate devices like that. I have a cell phone, but I use it for...hmm....calling people? Nowadays, everyone has a phone that does "text messaging" when they can't type worth a damn on the computer keyboard, so how the hell can they type on a number pad? MP3 player? Why? I can just bring mine. Games? Just bring a game boy. The "do it all" portables are really begging to bug me.

Most phones have text messaging capabilites, even yours, I am assuming - which I bet I am right.

But then again, who wants to carry around a separate MP3 player, Gameboy, and cell phone with them, if they can carry all three in just a single device? Logical wouldn't you think?

I wouldn't buy one. I'm perfectly happy with my Samsung camera phone. If I want to play music, I've got an MP3 player, and as for games, that's what the Gamecube's for. Granted, I can't take it with me. When they start putting SSBM on it, then I'll buy one.

I hope this flops, then it might discourage the production of more stupid do-it-all devices.

I think it will flop...especially since you have hold it sideways to talk to people. that would be annoying. and you hafta take out the battery to change the game which would get annoying if you get bored of games easily. And I don't think the Sony handheld will flop.

This thing costs 300..thats more than the launch price of a PS2 & Xbox. MP3 players are very small, i see no reason not to carry it around. A GBA SP is small enough to fit in a pocket. And a cell phone has the name "phone" for a reason. I dont like all in one devices. Im convinced they are gimicks. The highest rated game for the N-gage was a 7.0 by EGM...it might;ve been lower, though.

$300 was the launch price of PS2 and Xbox...So this little doohicky costs as much as a console that looks tons better.

Why would you? Nintendo has a monopoly on the market.

Nintendo has dominated the handheld site for years. Sega's gamegear, flopped. Nokia N-Gage, uh, let's not go there. Not to mention that the Gameboy Advance is awesome, as well as SP. I don't own GameBoy Advance, stricly because I have sorta out-grown them. But, I will not buy the "PSP" or any new thing. If anything, the GameBoy, strictly because Sony's will be expensive and it will take a while for them to get some good games running.

What a waste of money. All I need for my cell phone is a phone, text messaging, and a camera attachment would be hella cool.

I still say the sideways talking will be annoying with that phone. and you'll fingerprint the screen while your talking which will make you clean it more often than usual. And the PSP will not flop...
