| Time Period to Live In
This is a curious thought I had after reading leeloo1953's comment in the Soda v. Pop debate -- what time period would you wish you could have lived in? Past periods, obviously. Try to be somewhat general, or explain why a certain year peaks your interest. Remember, even though one event might be great to witness, would you really want to stick around for the entire time period? I'd go for the late 1940s - 1950s. Post-WWII economic boom, great domesticity for women (considering how much I love to keep house and bake as it is), good music (in my opinion), and an age of innocence that has unfortunately disappeared from this country. The couple of things that wouldn't work too well for me, however, is the fact that I won't have children (would be considered somewhat weird, or pitied at best though it's my personal choice), and that I do work outside the home in more than a domestic position and I enjoy it very much. Again, not entirely unheard of even then, but not as open.

This will sound odd... but... Way back when, with the Anglo-Saxons. Living in a place that the notion of belief in a god had not yet reached. Living in a culture that valued the strong, instead of trying to pander to the weak. Living self sufficiently, where the normal blood lust that everyone has was able to be set loose. Living in a time when the best stories ever were told around the campfire, and getting drunk every night wasn't considered wrong. Yep, sounds pretty good to me. |

Hey good poll. I'd chose to be born about 78 years earlier than I was. I'd want to be a teen during WWI, maybe even kill everybody then. This seems to have been a more pleasant time. It was okay to let your kids play with toy guns. Racism against whites wasn't mandated by the federal government for another 75 years. Smoking wasn't the worst thing you could do. Yet you still had all of the modern conveniences that you would really ever need - cars, radios, baseball, etc.

i would want to live in england during the 1200's. the medieval time period looks really cool to live in but i would have to be a rich person because the life of the poor people sucked back then.

The 40's and 50s sound good, as Hollywood made it, but I would rather stay in the 80s. I guess I'm unimaginative, but that's where my best years were. I absolutely hate the 90s for what my life turned into post 1995.

The 20's seemed like a pretty cool time. Especially in Chicago, just as long as I don't get shot by gangsters.

Just like CedarPoint_Mark, I would want to be in the 80s. That would be cool because there were still some great coasters then and admission to theme parks would be a lot cheaper than it is today!

Yeah, there was a ton of cool stuff going on in the 80's: Reagan, Mötley Crüe, etc.

Yeah thats pretty much all I think about. I know, I know, a lot of people ask me whats my fascination with theme parks and coasters. Probably has to do with being raised in Orlando, surrounded by parks.
Is that all you think about?
I'd like to have lived in London during Queen Victoria's reign, when the world was on the brink of huge change, London was still a gothic city of mystery and there were still adventures to be had in the World.

I'd want to live in the early 1900s in NYC, I think it would be really interesting for some reason.

My time probably would be in the 1920's... as a gangster.... a real untouchable... complete with a loose-fitting suit, the vest, the hat, and the tommy gun.

Somewhere in the first half of the 1600s, I always thought it would be fun to be a pirate...well, at least the kind that sailed the huge sail ships and sword fought and got to hunt for burried treasure...

The 60s to 70s. Great time for music and just trying to relax and let everything go. Too bad there was so many problems with it.
Originally posted by Kraken Not if you were a Greek like I wanted to be. Achilles got all the hunnies.
Yeah, but the general Agamemnon stole his best one. And his godess mother Thetis dressed him up as a woman before so he wouldn't go to war. Wimp. Sorry, had to do it. Had a test on the Trojan War today. But anyways, my vote goes to the seclusion of the Incan people in the late 1500's before the invasion of the Spanish. Maachu Picchu, would be an incredible place to live. In a close second is the USA in the mid-1800's Antebellum.

I believe in the Bible. I would choose to live in the time period before the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Just think, it would be pure bliss; no pain, no sorrow, no boredom. Ah yes. I would definitely choose that time period.

Except you would have no problems and be able to live in peace and harmony with your environment. It sounds pretty cool to me.

As do I, I probably wouldn't choose another, but if I had to I would pick 60s and 70s.

The 70s and 80s. I would like to have been in college in the firsthalf of the 80s. Second choice would be post-WW2 1940s and 50s. Oh yeah, Europe in the earlier part of this century (excluding WW1 & WW2) would have been cool too. |
Originally posted by leeloo1953 steve. this is just my own opinion and is not to start any type of religous discussion. But, what I have learned about the Garden of Eden, that would without a doubt, be an extremely boring time period to live in.
No problems, everyone is entitled to their opinion. If I were to choose a more "modern" time period. I would choose to live as a child again before I had any responsibilities whatsoever. I would also have my entire life ahead of me. I would make some different decisions, but nothing huge.
