Favorite scary flick

Well, it's Halloween, and what is your favorite? For me, it would be the original Alien. That movie scared the hell out of me the first time I saw it. Not to mention I was about 8 years old at the time. Alien was like a haunted house in space that left a lot to your imagination without being too graphic(outside of Kane's indigestion scene).

Other favorites include The Shining, The Thing, and The Silence of the Lambs.

You know what's funny? I clicked on this topic, and seconds before it loaded, I thought "Man, it's gotta be Alien".

And plus those aliens are just so damn cool looking.

I did a search, but results showed the last time it was posted was 2001, so this is a legit thread.

I was trying to find out what was so scary about the "Halloween"'s, the "Friday the 13th"s. Nightmare on Elm Street series seems decent enough. Then you have the Urban Legends (whoopee), Screams (eh), Final Destination (um). One that does look good is Gothika.

The top horror movie, I heard, was Exorcist. Haven't seen it but may buy it soon.

My favorites would have to be the Halloween Series. Most notably Halloween 4 and 5.

My favorite is definately the Halloween series. I love them all, and they scared the crap out of me when I was pretty young.

Halloween series, even though most people don't think it's scary or anything, I still really like them. I also like The Exorcist, I thought it was scary when I was little and it still freaks me out. Any movie that's supposed to be scary usually scares me, I get scared extremely easily, lol I'm such a wimp.

the first halloween was good, but they kind of ruined it with all the sequels just how they kinda ruin every horror flick with lots of sequels

DEFNINTELY the original version of "The Ring" "Ringu". It is 5x as scary as the ring and 100x more shocking. A must see for horror buffs, and for Whore buffs go look at the vegas streets at midnight...

I saw the Exorcist when I was around 8 or 9, and needless to say was scared to death. Still watching it now it creeps me out.

if you guys want to see a good scary movie, you have to see the movie called:

THE EVIL DEAD

now thats a funny...woops i mean scary movie. while it may not be scary, its so corney that it makes it so funny which makes it a good comedy. but its still considered a horror movie so thats my favorite. also, the two sequels to it are the evil dead 2 and army of darkness (which is maddox's favorite movie).

i dont know if it would be considered a scary movie but i thought Signs was a fantastic movie.

Hard to pick a favorite---so many good flicks out there. Some that come to mind are: Amityville Horror part 2, The Evil Dead part 2, Serpent and the Rainbow, When a Stranger Calls, Jaws, Poltergeist, and Night of the Living Dead.

I'm not sure if you know or not, but stephen king didn't make those. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was based on a true story too. Some Cunningham guy made friday the 13th....

But my favorites are the shining, nightmare on elm street, the exorcist, and OF COURSE alfred hitchcock, especially Psycho.

NOTHING, but NOTHING beats the Exorcist. It rules all movies.

My favorite is the remake of The Thing known only as JOHN CARPENTER'S THE THING!!!

But the scariest horror movie? Hmmm, that's tough...

I would probably have to say Dracula 2001, and not because it was frightening, no, but because I was like 8 when that movie came out, and I was literally crapping my pants during the airplane scene.

The Ring was scary as hell the first time i saw it. The exorcist was disturbing; it wasn't scary. Most of the Steven ing movies freak me out. Im watching Steven King's "The Dark Half" and its pretty scary.

The top horror movie, I heard, was Exorcist. Haven't seen it but may buy it soon.
Make sure that you get the Director's cut. It has quite a few extra scenes and a few more subtle backround images that I didn't see in the original (Yes, I was looking for them as I saw the Director's Cut first).

My favorites:

28 Days Later
The Exorcist
The Ring (If I only watched it the first time, it would be on top)

I loved Silence of the Lambs, but I think it's more of a thriller/suspence movie than a Horror flick. I think if I included it in the list, it'd be second.

Then there was The Shining. Yes, I watched the original verson. It sucked. Big time. Someone was asking me how I thought a little girl crawling out of a TV was scary in The Ring. Honestly though, how is that not scary if you consiter a boy saying "Red Rum" scary? I mean, anyone can say "Red Rum" but it takes skill to crawl out of a TV.

Oh, and Signs. Another crappy "horror" flick. TWO jump spots in the whole movie. One was spoiled by the trailers. The other was really good... but who wants to watch a 2 hour movie for one jump?

One more: Jeepers Creepers. I didn't think it was especially good, but I had fun watching it and laughing at it, especially since it was at a party and I would randomly scream in non-scary parts and all the chick there would scream and freak out. Oh, what fun.

Um, that's about it. As you can tell, I haven't seen many horror movies.

You are correct. "Wait til dark" is another good one. However, that's more of a suspense movie than a horror movie.

Stephen King's Misery was good too.
