Fast or Slow Lifts?

Do you prefer slow lifts filled with anticipation and good views; or lifts that get you up there fast and start the course with a bang?

Since my top 3 favorite coasters all have relatively slow lifts, I'd have to say....... S L O W ! ! !

I'll drag you on Magnum with me, leeloo.

I prefer slow lifts. Helps build up the suspense.

I like quick lift hills. Magnum has a decent speed but other coasters have slow lifts that get old real fast.

I like the slow ones, except at DP because I don't care to have a view of that hellhole. That's why Laser's lift sucks.

leeloo1953: "LOL!! Well I can see now that Robert is going to be just a bad as a few others around here, (who I will not name)."

Why leeloo, whatever do you mean??? Me bad???

leeloo1953: "Just to clarify, I'm afraid of heights, therefore, I really do not enjoy a slow lift hill."

Thanks for the clarification.

This part is true...that Kelly Girl always provides excellent service!!!

Slow lifts. The change in speed is greater when you crest the hill and begin heading down. Millenium Force's biggest weakness is the lack of "creeping" affect. The coaster train does not creep over the hill like Goliath or Magnum. Plus, I believe a slower lift hill helps create that "feeling" in your stomach over the first hill.

Back in 1991 when i first rode magnum, I had the really bad stomach feeling while going up the first hill. I am guessing most people that really never had gone on a large coaster that has a lift hill might feel that. Its part of the thrill i guss.

About Leeoo's Coment "...with me, you'll never want to do it again!! Trust me." Check Please lmao

For the record i am a women not a girl...hum how old am I robert hahaha. Had to move this coment lol. I made robert think and confused him haahah. SOrry robert

..Thanks for chating last night Leeloo Hope to hear from you soon.

I like slow especially on The Beast. But MF's is so cool how fast it is. You don't have time to get scared on it.

I also wish that MF would stop at the top, it's such a pretty view.

Slow is definitely better. Like on the 4th of july, at CP you can watch the fireworks going off for a little while on your way up the hill on magnum. Then all the sudden your falling 194' 8" down the hill. Definitely lots of fun.

Ya i guess i should put my imput into this. Ya slower is alot nicer esp if your in nice area. I like to look around and check out the scenery as i go up. MF is good don't get me wrong. Just rather go up a slower lift and hear the beautiful anti roll backs.

^^ That reminds me, the inverts in general are getting so loud on the anti-rollback TG @ PC in particular, I'd rather have it go fast on those

I think part of it depends on the coaster, but in general I prefer slower lifts. It builds anticipations, gets some adrenaline going, and sometimes theres somethings to see, sometimes there aren't.

I'll have to say I enjoy a fast lift. MF's lift is just thrilling to me. It kind of gives a sense of "no turning back" cause your already at the top.

I like fast lift hills, the faster you go over that top, the harder you go down, especially for the back seat. I think that may be one of the reasons that alot of enthusiasts will claim that Comet at Great Escape has one of the best drops anywhere. I liked Beast more when it had a faster lift, I don't like how it slowly chugs up the hill.

I really couldn't care either way. On one hand, I love the speed of the lift hill, on the other hand, I like the slowness where I can enjoy the view on the way up (I don't care about anticipation so much). Of course too, walking up a lift or stopping is even better... that means that I get to enjoy the view so much more. Plus, I don't look down... I STARE down! It really doesn't bother me at all, as I could stay up top all day.

If anyone heard my spiel last year on Magnum (when we still had spiels done by us hosts), my last line was almost always "Sit back, relax, enjoy the view aboard the Magnum XL-200 and we'll see you back here in 2 and a half minutes". It was always for the view.

Everytime I ride a coaster, it valleys. I've never been on a stalled coaster or had one roll back (except Wicked Twister and what was Superman: Ultimate Escape, which does that by design).

And it can go slower.

During normal operation, the lift fast is turned on.
