A question for all you RCT fans

As part of the staff, we are curious to see how interested you would be if we were to bring back TN Primier Parks.

Please do so in the vote, and put in comments if you would like.

Also, note we are still deciding weather or not we will bring it back, this poll is to simply get an idea of how many members are willing.

Thanks!
-Kyle

NOTE: If you do vote, please take the time to give some comments, suggestions, or concerns by posting how you would feel if TNPP is back, it would be greatly appreciated.

If you leave a comment about your thoughts it will mean a lot more than just voting in the poll. We are really trying to get a solid idea of just how interested people are and if its something you guys really want to start up again.

i would love to have TNPP back. but the problems that occured last time will probably happen again. with the number of park builders at this site, it would be impossible to get a good number of parks (at least 4 or 5) finnished in each month. then you might say that we will have a contest every other month but thats just too long of a waiting period between each contest. the other thing is voting. the small community of RCT players we have here will just vote for their own parks so then each park will have one vote and then no one else outside the RCT players will vote leaving every park with 1 vote and maybe a few more with 2. the whole point of this point is that with such a small RCT community, you staff members need to figure out a good way to hold the competition. if you do, i'd love to participate.

If the TNPP is to be revised, Kyle and I have been discussing ways to possibly make it different from what it was in the past. We talked about having "themed" parks, for example, for one contest people would have to submit a Western themed mini park, or maybe for another contest, the best Magic Mountain recreation.
Or, of course, we could run it exactly the same as it was done before. We were thinking maybe of, once we got the green light to run it again, have a thread in which members submit ideas for running it.

I sometimes miss it, but can't you think of some other creative contest, something like QFTB-X?

1) first, forget rct2. This is not worth starting until rct3d is released

2) thrillnetwork just isn't a great site for these competitions. Other sites like nedesigns are much better. Not want you want to hear, but how else will you improve this site?

3) need more members. More advertising. Incentives. You need to get people from rival boards, not just more entries from this board. really compete with other websites.

4) do something about the layout. look at this: http://babble.fluxd.com

Why does it work better? Because there are no sub forums. The rct page needs to be on the front page, and that goes for all the other non-rct forums as well. delete unused forums. Its the only way you will increase traffic.

5) Allow screenshots to be posted to show up automatically in threads (With the text). Makes people view them. In a small link at the end, people are too lazy to view them.of course have limits, but 2 500x600 80kb screenshots is reasonable. Be realistic - most people have broadband now and want to use it.

even if you do all this, it might not be enough. but it'd be a good start - itswhat i'd like to see.

1.No one that is interested in parks is going to move onto RCT 3

2.This site is for roller coaster discussion and news first, not RCT. NE is really only for the upper echelon of parkmakers anyway.

3.I'm pretty sure the contest would be advertised and would draw a good amount of interest. Just look at the No Limits contest, there are tons of new people doing that.

4.You are the only person that has a problem with the layout of the forums, as shown in the thread you made a while ago.

5.There is a reason for not allowing the leeching on images, load times. If everyone just linked to a album at photobucket or imageshack it wouldn't be much of a problem. Even if they upload screens most people are still going to look at them.

Skye, why are people still making RCT/2 coasters when they know RCT3 is coming out? Yeah, thought so.

Need to get people from rival boards...hmm, that could go as recruiting, or advertising with that purpose only which is not only against our ToS, but against a lot of other sites' as well.

Allow screenshots yadda yadda...you dial-up right? Care to wait 5 times longer for a page to upload? I don't. How hard is it to move the mouse over and 'click'?

Phil/Aaron...I'd be willing to give this a shot either way. But I don't theme

I'm sure that a few sites would allow us to mention it, we have practically been a farm league for NE so they should be encouraging us to start this back up.

I am all for this. I didn't start doing overly themed parks until TNPP was cancelled, so I never had the chance to participate. Since I did not participate, I can't really say any improvements other than bring this back!

Only conflict I would have is TIME. I have class and other commitments, so that might bite me in the butt during a competition.

phil, advertising at NE is a bad idea. we've done it before and all we have gotten is people laughing at us. i am a frequent poster there and advertise my parks there but new parks like we have here they will rip apart. just take a look at what happened last time:

I think Rebel went about advertising it in the wrong way. I think if someone contacted iris or adix, and told them that we wanted to attract some middle of the pack parkmarkers to our site to allow them to hone their skills. New Element owes us, they got some of their biggest parkmakers from this site. rct2.com would probably allow it as well.

Also, if we create a contest like the one for NL we would attract a lot of people even with some of the other members saying the site sucks.

You can't ask for peoples ideas then moan about them. I think every one of my ideas would help.

About Ne......................well if you don't compete with best you won't get the best.

Skye, you also mentioned the layout, not once bot another time as well. Why should we change the layout of any of the forums to suit 1 member?

On topic of TNPP, I'd sure be interested in getting back into RCT2, especially while waiting for RCT3. I like the idea of having specific rules (like we have for the NL contest) as in the examples Aaron gave above. If there was some kind of prize involved, we could probably build it up more and more, and it would probably be better over a two month span to give people more time and allow for more entries.
Just my two cents.

You know, that IMG tag is there for a reason, It's for posting pictures so you don't have to click on a link to see a picture. I use this hosting service a lot, and that's why you can view the screenshots from my park RCT Mania right in the post.

I'm glad to see there's an interest in this. TN used to be a major RCT site at one time, and I think it's great that people want the TNPP back. I made TNPP suggestion box thread for all the ideas about how to do this contest. We hope to get this up and running soon.

Look, we aren't looking out to draw the elite members back, I think we have a ton of good RCT park makers here on TN. I want to bring back TNPP to prove that TN has many great RCT park makers. No one understands this yet, cause we haven't had a TNPP in such a long time.

Anyways, I am more than willing to devote time and work into bringing back TNPP, same with Aaron, and Phil.

Well for sure unless you do something big this will never work. and it just seems like you aren't doing enough, just hoping a few small changes will make any kind of difference. It won't.

Its going to fail before its even started unless the changes are enough to encourage people to make parks.

The previous format didn't work before - so it probably won't work again.

What sort of changes are we talking about?

We (The TNPP crew) decided we will not be doing RCT3 for TNPP until we feel it is necissary.

Well I vote fully in favor of it. I'd like to see it be like we were told that the TNPP would be after the new speedzone went up. They kept saying more contest and more specialized stuff. One of my suggestions was to do a historical recreation contest where you don't even build rides per se, but use RCT/2 to build historical buildings. Hell, I spent a ton of time on a big Versialles and then it fell apart. I think if you went the specialized contest route, it'd be great.

As far as Skye's suggestions, as I said in the other thread, I'm not convinced that RCT3 will be even close to as good as 1 and 2. It's trying to hard to be what SimTheme Park failed at. I don't see TN becoming an RCT destination, I just see that as a feature of an already good site. Look how well the No Limits contest is going without major changes to anything. Sure, that's sponsored, but even the avatars are a hell of a prize. Or it would be to me anyways.

Actually, I could see us raising some money and giving away some prizes for the big contests.

Thats very negative the game hasn't been released yet. But i think that even if the game isn't as good, people who still concentrate on that because its newer and different. I have no interest making rct2 parks now.

Skye, I've got to disagree with you again. Just cause it's the latest thing doesn't mean everyone will abandon the game they love. I mean, look at NE. They showcase RCT2 parks, but it's still the RCT1 parks that get the acclaim. It a more pure way of looking at it and creating parks. From the screenshots of RCT 3, I don't get that feeling. I hope I'm wrong, but whatever. Either way, there will always be people that play older games even if there are sequels out there. Hell, I still keep my N64 hooked up next to my Gamecube just to play Goldeneye.

Anyways, in conclusion, even in you guys are worried about RCT3 coming out, get the contest started now. We could get a few good months in of mini-park contests to build momentum before RCT3 comes out and some lose interest. Just my thought, but you're burning daylight.

I can understand people will think rct2 is (or will) a better game (than rct3); it probably is.

But it dosn't work like that; these are only the very serious who make rct1 parks. To be popular, the TNPP needs to be forward looking and see what will be popular. Far more people will make rct3 parks becasue its new, there is just more new stuff to try out. also in 3d, making the parks look good is a different challenge. And thats what people want - a new challenge. To be sucessful in anything, you need to be ahead of everyone else - you need to think what WILL be popular, not whats popular now. Part of the problem is that new people can't make parks becasue the established makers dominate the competitions; with rct3, everyone will start at the same level, at the begining. This means many more parks and more competition - which is always good.

Or you could put it another way. If TNPP isn't very sucessful, and can't ever compete with nedesigns, then thats a reason for TNPP to be only rct3 - its a niche, a novelty that will make people sign up fpr TNPP. especially if NE are slow to make the switch.

Only by being new and original will this ever work.

I would love to have it back even though I wasn't here when it was here in the past. Finally!! People who care about rct2. At first I wasn't crazy about rct3 but now each time i see it i grow to love it but i never will stop playing rct2!! Anyways all of the 3D rollercoaster sims i have seen are all trashed but now i have seen the future. I have just downloaded the demo for no limits. If rct3 will have graphics just as good as NL then this rct will be a good rct. So anyways (sorry i got sidetracked) i think you should start it up again and even try to incorporate both versions!!

guys, we can always change it. why not just start it up now with RCT2 and then we'll see in november how good and popular RCT3 is and then we'll change it depending on how we, as a community like the new game
