Smile September TNPP voting

Alright, it's time for the first voting of the new TNPP. You have four parks to choose from.
The Glen by Phil
A.T.T.R by MachChunk
Dreamwood by bk2004
Thunder Valley by Riddler156.

We were aiming for at least three, and we got four, so we're all really happy. Remember, post a comment or mini-review about each park, just so we know you actually looked at them.

And thanks to everyone who submitted parks, we really appreciate it.

I thought all the parks were good, but there was something I liked about Phil's. It was a good park.I liked the beachy atmosphere and architecture.

I began looking at the parks tonight, and the first was bk2004's Dreamwood. These are my thoughts.
  • The entrance area is nice, except for the cacti
  • Log Jammer is a decent kiddie coaster, but the trees were overused and it could have used some more theming
  • Mountain Rafting Safari is a great raft ride, one of the better ones I've seen
  • All the buildings in the Ol' Western section are nicely done, but could have been a bit more varied
  • Double Dip was a very dissapointing coaster, its not something I would be running into line for. The station is very hit or miss, but I like it
  • Warrior was another dissapointment. It was short and not particularly interesting. The water thing looked really out of place
  • Log Flume was boring and could have used less of the same trees and more theming
  • Outlaw had a poor layout, that turnaround kills the whole ride's speed. Nice location though
  • Jungle Jive was a nice little coaster, could work on the underground parts. Theming could have been better
  • Golden Dragon did not look like fun and the station seemed a little too big and bulky
  • The transistion from area to area was extremely sudden, it should flow from area to area
  • The architecture overall was very good, it was a little repititive, but still very good
  • The Jurrasic Times area was definitely one of the weakest. You seemed to rely too much on the same few trees and dinosaurs through the whole area
  • The Level Ground area stuck out like a sore thumb and didn't seem to serve a real purpose
  • Ol' Western was my favorite area, great job on it except for the trees
  • Medievil Times was both good and bad. Some of the castle theming was great while other parts were boring.
  • I really enjoyed the little bridges and the water throughout the park, nice job
Overall it was a very solid park. The thing you really need to work on is your coaster designs. I really love interesting coasters and you park didn't really have any. The architecture was very good though and the Mountain Rafting Safari was great.

I actually got to MachChunk's A.T.T.R tonight as well. These are my thoughts on his park.
  • The entrance area is really an odd mix of colors and wall and roof textures, I didn't really care for it much
  • The buildings on the "main street" area were nicely done but the monorail station really sticks out and ruins the picture
  • The NE area lacks in both the building and ride department. Iris goes through the course too slowly to be much fun
  • Road Rally is a nicely done hyper, except for the first drop and the half-theming throughout the ride
  • Sambo's Mouse Hunter is a very good coaster, and the station fits well
  • Kraken: God of the Forums is a good ride, but the supports are pretty ugly and the theming and landscaping is almost nonexistant
  • Speedzone is a great Go-Karts, you did that ride extremely well
  • The TN Food Court is probably the best archy in the park, along with all monorail stations other than the one on "main street"
  • The dueling woodies are exciting, but once again, crappy theminga and landscaping. Its like you through on a few random trees and said it was finished
  • The tree selection throughout the park was not good, it seemed like it was mostly random
  • The colored tile ground, and I know it seperated the areas, was an eyesore especially the green in RCTHub
  • You needed a ride named after me in the TN area
Overall you had some very good coasters and a great idea for the park. The execution is what let this park down. It looks like you lost interest quickly and tried to fill in areas with random trees and poorly done theming. You left huge amounts of open space, and the park wasn't very big. If you had excuted the theming and architecture better, I would have really enjoyed the park because it has some good rides. The way it is now though, it is really an average park

Look for the little review of Thunder Valley tomorrow and for which park gets my vote sometime next week.

I voted for Dreamwoods. It was the best park of the group for me and I was surprised how good it was. My problem with it was that the treeing was really bad and the theaming could have been better but overall it was a solid park.

Then came ATTR, The Glen, and Thunder Valley(unfinished thats why and not much there).

The Glen:

The park was cool. I loved the whole beach theme and atmosphere. You had some nice architecture, but I don't like how most of the builds do not have a purpose. Jammin was a cool coaster. I loved the colors and the take off on the lift. Overall it was a nice park, but I thought a few more rides could have been present.

A.T.T.R:

I loved the architecture in your park. Very nice. The park was a little small though. But you did have a nice collection of rides. I loved the TN area. That was funny. I liked the supports on the Kraken roller coaster. I loved how you had the snow, and then places where it seemed to be melting/melted, instead of having it all snow. I didn't get the name of the coaster though, Road Ralley, with a snow theme? Anywho, I also loved the dueling B&M Inverted and Sitdown. That was unique. Some places though, like Phil mentioned were odd looking and stuck out. Most places had decent themeing, but some were slapped together, and looked out of place. Overall the park wasn't bad at all. I really enjoyed the better parts of it. What does A.T.T.R. mean anyway?

Thunder Valley:

A nice park for what you had. It would of made the park complete if you had the whole mountains filled with trees. The B&M coaster was pretty cool, but I didn't think it was unique enough to make a park about that one ride though. I think the first drop should of been at least 200 feet also. But the themeing around the grounds and station of the ride was neat and fit in well. The atmostphere was good too. I like whole idea of it, but a little more trees, and maybe some supports on the lift would of made it complete.

I just looked at Thunder Valley, and was very dissapointed with it. It is really unfinished, and the ride itself isn't great. The station looked too big and bulky and the landscaping was off.

My vote is going to be Dreamwoods.

Thanks for the comments guys. I really like seeing positive comments after what people said about my first park.

The park looks thrown together because it only took a little over a month. It would've took longer if the park was bigger than 100x100.

After sorting out technical difficulties, I am pleased to say I was able to view all four parks. Though I don't have the time to give the full reviews I'd like, I do have some comments, and I will be awarding my vote.

The Glen: This park pulled off the beach theme very well, particuarly with the architecture, which fit in nicely with the rest of the park. I liked the colors and the layout of Jammin, although I didn't care for the dirt covered empty hills near the back of the park. Maybe they'd look better if they were treed more. On a final note, the waterfall pond was a nice touch.
Rating: 7.4

A.T.T.R.: This was certainly one of the more innovative ideas I've seen for a park, and I have to give points for being creative. The coasters were the best part, as they had great layouts and just looked good overall. The architecture was nothing facy, but it suffices. However, the terrain choices were pretty bad. TN's was acceptable, but the space grid and ice/dirt mix on the other regions really clashed and didn't fit the look of the park at all.
Rating: 6.7

Dreamwoods: This was a very good park and all the themed worlds were done quite well. The transitions between areas was smooth, and the theming was overall good, although I would have prefered a greater blend of pine trees in the mining area instead of one type. I loved Warrior, it was a great coaster packed into a compact area and (this is the first time I've ever said this) it had great custom supports. As a river-rapids lover, Moutain Rafting Safari was superb. One thing I didn't care for were the bright yellow roofs on some buildings, they stood out a bit.
Rating: 8.3

Thunder Valley: I'm going to start with the positive, and say that Silver Dragon was a wonderful coaster with an excellent layout. I liked the custom paths that were used, and the gray rock siding on the paths was a nice touch, I haven't seen that before. Though this park certainly had great potential, the sheer emptiness of it really drags the rating down. This was not a park, this was a track design, and though I'm sure it would have been great when completed, I can't rate it too highly.
Rating: 6.6

Though I liked all the submissions, my vote goes to Dreamwoods. And once again, I applaud all those who entered. Congradulations to you all, and thanks to everyone who voted as well.

Remember, the October contest is almost here. Same rules apply, 100x100 or smaller, no expansion packs, and it must be Halloween/spooky/creepy themed.

VOTING OVER
First Place: Dreamwoods by bk2004
Tied for Fourth (or second, depending how you look at it): The Glen by Phil, A.T.T.R. by MachChunk, and Thunder Valley by Riddler156.
Well, thank you all for participating. We'll try to get a webpage up featuring the winners, and Dreamwoods will now be entered in the Winner's Circle competition, to be held in early December.
