Profile Question

Why isn't there a place to put in your MSN messager user name in your profile? You have Yahoo and AIM, so why not MSN. I can't ever talk to anyone because I can't just look up their username.

My dad won't allow anyone in my family to dowload AIM. He thinks we'll never get off the computer if we do. Plus he thinks its full of spyware, which I don't doubt.

This is coming from a spyware expert: AIM doesn't have spyware in it. AIM really wants to win business support for instant messaging at work, and many employers have policies against IMing because of such fears.

Your dad is more right than wrong about the AIM user addiction. But if you're going to use MSN's messenging servicece anyway, why not just go download the more popular AIM for free?

Back to the original question -- I think it's a good idea to allow a space in the profile for the username. After all, it's another big server for IM services, and we all use different things so why not?

That is exactly what I was thinking Melissa. I just don't know how difficult it would be to put something like that in place.

There's another possibility for you to- you can try out a program called Trillian that allows you to work with MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, and a couple of others- all from one nice little program, and absolutely no spyware, ads, hacks, viruses, or any other security issues with it. Plus it takes up less memory than any one of those other programs running, let alone a combination of them. Something well worth checking out.

But I also don't see why there shouldn't be a spot for an MSN name. But doubt that you'll find many using it. Especially with it being MS, which pretty much means several security holes in it.
