What's up with this?

I found this on Absolutely Reliable:

Thrillnetwork.com Still Online, Shocking Enthusiasts at or Above a Fourth-Grade Reading Level

In news that surprised coherent enthusiasts throughout the world, Thrillnetwork.com is still online, and seemingly continues operations, evidently believing itself to be relevant.

"Seriously? That site's still up? That's incredible," said Detroit-area college-educated enthusiast Mike Herrington. "You're kidding, right?"

After closing twelve popup ads and reloading three times to resolve ASP scripting errors, ARN&R can confirm, in an exclusive investigative report, that the site is indeed up, despite widespread disbelief among enthusiasts capable of carrying on a conversation about any book without the word "thrill" in its title. The front page offers links to articles available only at thirty or more other coaster-oriented sites, along with the siren call of a link: "Click here for a PHP script to make this do something!" Additionally, the site's forums continue to operate with upwards of thirty people active at any given time, at least one of whom is capable of forming a complete sentence.

There may, indeed, be even more available on the site, but even the most intrepid investigative reporter couldn't say for sure, given the site's labrynthine navigation. The search engine has been "taken offline for tweaking," rendering further investigation difficult.

Reached for comment, the site's management declared: "We is the site for the rest of us, them who can't really write or talk so good."

Was TN really like that in the past? Was it that bad?

That article is over 2 years old now guys, I think we should be able to get over it. Plus its satire as WildeFyre said. Its taking the truth and stretching it out to create a joke.

I know they stretched the truth, it's 2 years old, and its from ARNaR, but I was wondering, was TN not as great as it is now back in then? I've seen some old site designs, and it didn't look that goreat, but hey, I wasn't posting then.

From the Thrillride, ride reviews way back when, I've always liked TN. The old versions may not be as aestheically pleasing as the new one. Or easy to navigate at that, but they were still just as informative with great topics in the forums.

Some would have you belive that though the site navigation and function has improved dramatically, the quality of it's members has not or has possibly declined further due to some members not being around anymore.

*cough* Kraken and GP *cough*

the one thing with Thrillnetwork is that it does seem to have a younger average age of it's posters than many of the others sites out there. And it does show up in the types of posts made and the quality. And yes, it certainly has had times where it has been worse than at other times. Seems to be cyclical.

But I do seem to find that I have a few more "head slapping" moments when reading through threads here than other places. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, if you know what I mean... :P

Not when *cough* Kraken and GP *cough* routinely broke the TOS. Get over it, already (I'm sure that we attracted the trash because of their post quality alone). If you don't like it, there's the door. Otherwise, go have some cheese with that whine.

I also totally agree with Sir Willow. Historically, we've had a younger age (and in some ways, we still do). But, much of the age base has matured, and those who have set an example for the others. When we put forth the etiquette and started to make it enforcable, that really helped drive up the readability and quality from that period. Plus, I also see other members (yes, members) moderating other members in that you get a n00b who posts in cell phone shorthand. I like that, and for that, I thank those who do it.

Also, in case anyone noticed, look at breaking news...

Read how they put it, then read most of their other articles.

Happy to see that time changes nothing. Disagreements with administration still get the love it or leave it response. My favorite being that now after the fact that they've been banned it's conveyed that their behavior brought in trash and posters the didn't post quality, yet I've only ever been told that they scared off new posters and didn't respect anyone that hadn't been here since the beginning. Huh.

I love that those two did more "moderating" of the site (admittedly through snide remarks to the poster rather than tattling in the Help us out threads) than 90% of the wanna be mods that are around now, myself included.

Oh well, guess I'll just go eat my "whine and cheese" and continue to lose interest in this site as more and more things that make no sense whatsoever get accomplished. Hooray!

Being mentioned like that would make you infamous, as you have basically been labled an idiot along with sfft.

I wouldn't call it being an idiot... though the way they worded it, is that they answered your question.

now now, Leeloo...take a look at the 4th headline on ARN&R, and you'll see that they routinely take potshots at "that site." Yeah, TN did get mentioned in ARN&R, but you know, some people around here just asked for it.

I dunno, maybe I'm wierd, but there's a lot of those that you mention Leelo that I don't miss at all. But then I never cared much for people who were insulting, rude, or troublesome just for the sake of being that way. I don't mind humor and friendly kidding, but most of those were just plain impolite most of the time.

But then there are some that feel that way about me to. Sometimes I think it's the teacher in me coming out. hehe

Well, personally I think it's just when you first join. That's the funnest.

But why does everyone keep babbling on about them gone? Just like Leelo said, if you don't like the name of the coaster, don't ride it. Well, if you think TN is stupid now, don't post here anymore.

I think I'm going to name Sir Willow TN's "Dad". Sandy W can be "Mom". I'll be their "Son"... one big happy Ride Op family .

Oh, and if you ask about Kelly... she's just working hard @ Castaway Bay. I still talk to her on AIM once in a while. Magnum Robert did a major screw up by posting racist content (an automatic ban since have zero tolerance of hate).

I think people should get over members that have been banned because they did it to themself. I miss Kraken's humor and sometimes witty comments. As for general public, honestly who cares??? Yeah, it takes a lot of wit to just make fun of people like it did . Anyone else who got banned as well did something to deserve it. I get tired of people who complain about others who got banned. To anyone who thinks that, do you think certain members should be above the rules just because you like them?

Drewbie, I've had disagreements with mods and I've never gotten a "love it or leave it" response from anyone. It's just that some members complain endlessly and think the site should resolve around them. It's just a site, some people take it entirely too seriously. Rules are rules, I don't see why it's so hard for people to follow them. If it doesn't go their way, then some of them act up and get themselves banned.

I don't understand why everyone takes it out on TN and their admins/mods when somebody gets banned. It's stupid. I was cool with Magnum Robert when he was on the site before whatever happened to him. I wish he was still here but the bottomline is that he got himself banned for whatever he did. Do I think it was TN's fault for that? No, I don't and the same applies to anyone else who gets banned including Kraken and gp.

GET OVER IT PEOPLE!!!

The point is that those members were used as scapegoats, as if all of TN's problems were because of them.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what problems exactly? And I'm not trying to be patronizing,, but how are they being used as scapegoats? Like I've said, maybe there's something I don't know about or haven't seen but from what I have seen, it's members who keep bringing up Kraken, gp and/or other members who have gotten banned.

It was said that they brought in "bad" members and scared away "good" ones. However, nothing has changed since they've been gone.

There's entertaining, and there's entertaining. If flaming and spamming are entertaining, well, this isn't quite the site to do that.

Also, if anyone needs to have a reminder, we have our ban list. We list the reasons as to why they were banned. The problem was, in my opinion, is we let it go too long. People who have caused problems are now gone, and others who have tried to have been put on notice.

Though, if you want to make it more entertaining, talk to a staff member... maybe you may be able to work something out.

No offense, but how would you really know? gp was banned for the final time shortly after you joined and you weren't around for most of Kraken's time on here. But yes I miss Kraken's wit and while I didn't always agree with him, I did respect his knowledge on a wide range of topics. gp on the other hand just simply made fun of you if he didn't agree with what you said. Kraken would usually seem to at least hear you out and if you made a good case for your arguement or at least seemed to know what you're talking about, he wouldn't put you down as gp would.

I only comment on it since your post was amusing to me since you didn't even know of one of them and the other not for very long.

I'll save everyone the trouble of clicking the above link. Basically, for every member banned, it says "VIOLATED THE TOS ON SEVERAL ACCOUNTS!" With no details given and no reason given.......just a nice "Uh, we aren't supposed to talk about it."

But that seems to be our motto....
