Unhappy avatar limitations

I think the 1000-post limit is a bit over the top,

It will only encourage people to put pointless posts on the site,

That will cause a lot of clutter and make forum less inviting

1000 posts over 6 months is about 5.5 post every day
that will make a lot of clutter

Look at the bright side, you only have 4.5 more to go for today!

And so do I!

I moved this to the appropriate forum, and thanks for your input, but the system we have works well.

The staff just don't wan to give custom avatars to everyone who joins. You basically have to prove that you plan to stay for a year or 1000 post whichever it is now.

Be lucky, There were alot more requirements back when i joined to get my own avatar.

I think it was 1 year minnium with 2,000 or 2,500 post. Can't remeber.

If i'm not mistaken it was just recently changed to 1,000 so i don't see another change coming soon if ever.

I remembered back in the beginning of TN when there were no custom avatars privileges. Keep in mind not everyone has made it to a thousand posts in their first six months; it'll ususally take about a year or more as far as I know. I think the current system is alright.

Exactly, Hurricane. Then it was moved to one year and 3000 posts. The system we have is fine.

Causing a lot of cluttler? LMAO. That is so funny. You will be the only one trying to get the requirements. How will that cause a lot of clutter?

Good opinion. (not sarcastic)

You know you still can choose amoung a bunch of different coaster track avatars, you aren't limited to the one you have now.

Correct! An avatar shouldn’t be all that important. I don’t feel it’s necessary to use it to express who you are; you can do that through your posts. We use the avatar system we have no are a reward to those members who have stuck with us long enough and who have contributed to the site. It does use up more of our resources to let someone save an avatar on the site. And that’s one of the reasons why we would like to restrict it.

I also dont see why its important to have a custom avatar. Its the posts that add to the site and help it thrive, not the avatars.

What's the point of letting everyone have an avatar if having one is like a reward for those who have stuck around for sometime. I remember I joined last year not knowing I would contribute so much to this site and it took me about a year to get 1,000 posts. Just look at it this way, if it's so important for you to have an avatar, stick around for a year and then you'll have one. Simple as that. Just don't be like CPDude and spam 24/7 just so you can increase your post number.

That is a great way to put it. Think of it as a reward for sticking around and positively contributing to the site. It really is not a big deal, your time will come.

I understand why you would be upset, but look at me, I have been here since May of '02 and still am just a little bit over half-way there. But you not even having 100 posts yet, I don't belive it is time for you to start complaining. Hm, mabye in another 4 years I will have mine.

This thread is pointless and should be locked. Rules are rules, and who cares I have 700+ more to go and I could careless it really is only a little picture. The people that have made a commitment to this site and have posted 1,000 are the only people that should get avatars. I see the people who have avatars as 'veterans' of TN. lol.

The avatars are just little pictures, it's not that big a deal. I actually like messing with the post title better. If I had could only keep a post title or an avatar I would pry keep the post title. I think something else we should add is the ability for the older people to change the color of their name, but let the staff have a bronze silver and gold.

I really like that idea. That would be cool to have different color names. Maybe even change the Font of our names.

Please type in standard English (not Internet shorthand) and check your spelling, as your post was a pain to read.

And no, you can't change the font or the color of your name. We have the user colors set in the way they are so you can easily spot a staff member.

Below is the guide...

Yellow = COPPA user who is not registered properly
Burgundy = Regular user
Green = Editor
Blue = Moderator
Red = Admin or other non-editor/moderator staff

They add and modify our extensive park and ride database. It is an astronomical job to build and maintain. It is pretty much all data entry.

Why don't we make the limit 500 and a year of staying. Because you know the person is going to stay if they make 500 posts and stay a year.

Look, they have a solution to this question that is working out just fine. They have said this several times. They do not want to change it and there is no need to change it. That should be the end of the conversation.
