Ban Reasons?

I was looking through the boards and realized that Maxamillious was banned. Then I looked to see if there was a reason for it, and there was none. Not even an announcement. Why isn't there?

You may want to read this: http://www.thrillnetwork.com/boards/...cement.php?f=7

We want everyone to read announcements, because they include important information that will help you out in the future. Make sure you check up here frequently to see anything new.

Since Maxamillious was a frequent misspeller (I could hardley bare to read his posts) I can assume that the reason he was possibly banned was because of the warning above. Seeing as he was a constant misspeller. (Argh, I think Misspell is spelled wrong...whatever.)

Maybe it has to do with that new warning that they gave out... http://thrillnetwork.com/boards/announcement.php?f=7

So we all new he was going to be banned because he can't spell correctly... I don't know that is my only guess. I was surprised also not to see it in the banned list either. Oh Well.

We are not obligated to give a ban reason for every reason. However, we do it as a courtesy.

And yes, it had to do with the announcement. No, he was not banned because he couldn't spell. He was because he didn't even make an attempt to improve. Whether they're dyslexic, in a hurry, or not, it really isn't a license or an excuse to post without regard to readability. Since you have many kids on here who apparently don't pay attention in English class, or even try to make an effort, we have no choice but to take this action.

Also, we have a few staff members on this site who is dyslexic. My own brother is also dyslexic, and while he doesn't post on this site, he can actually write things that are readable. He just has to take a little longer.

No one should be under pressure to post a lot have to reply to as many threads as you can. If you don't have time to reply to a thread, reply later when there is time. That's what I have to do (if you noticed, sometimes I don't reply quickly-which is because I'm at work).

Well Steven said it has to do with the annoucement but not because he can't spell. He said that Max/Steven didn't improve. So I don't know If It is a one week banned for longer. Thats why I asked.

It was 1 week, per the announcement.

Let me clarify my statement....

I said he wasn't banned because he couldn't spell. We don't ban based on spelling abilities. He was banned for 1 week because he failed to heed moderator warnings to improve his post quality (that he didn't make any clear attempt to improve). That is what we would ban for.

This might be a dumb question. The announcement used the words "COPPA user". What is that?

Ok. I understand now. Thanks for the clarifying everything. I figured his banning had something to do with that announcement. I was just wondering why there wasn't any formal announcement in http://www.thrillnetwork.com/boards/...ad.php?t=27449 .

The only thing I will say is that in the first post of the banned members thread you wrote this:

Since we are giving you the reason, there is no reason to discuss a ban any further anywhere on this site. Furthermore, staff will not discuss the bans with the members or hold a public discussion in this thread.
So now saying:

is a bit of double speak.

If you're not gonna post every ban, then you should change the first line to:
This is the list of some of the people who have been banned, with a reason.

Just my thoughts. I don't wanna start another war, just thinking you should probably decide one way or the other rather than just saying we'll do whatever we want regardless of previous statements.

Drewbie. Whenever a situation comes up, one of the mods, usually Steven or Polcyn, will say pretty much anything to get it resolved. They back down on previous promises just to shut the people up. I used to let it bother me, but now I just accept that they will always do that, and they will never change.

That is hardly doublespeak.... if you look at other posts I have always said we are not obligated to give members a reason, and that we choose to do it.

All the first post in the ban list serves is to say that we don't allow ban discussions on these forums, and that we chose to share the reasons of the ban. However, if we decide not to post a ban, that is our decision.

Also, this post sums it up what I have said.

So yeah, we have hardly wavered, and thanks for telling only part of the story, Drewbie.
