nonhyper,nonlooping,non prototype???

I'm sure they're have been some recently, but I can't think of one. What was the last STEEL coaster to be under 200 ft, doesn't go upside down, doesn't launch, it's not an inverted, floorless.standup, flying or any other kind of "special" ride. It seems like if a steel coaster is built, it has to be tall or have some special element to it. Of course this doesn't include kiddie rides or wild mouse coasters. Can anyone think of a recent example?

Steel Eel at Sea World of Texas is a great example. An exceptional ride as well!

Well, I suppose that Mine Trains are considered to be "special" for their theming or their family orientated designs.

Morgan have made a few non 200ft+ coasters, and seeing as Morgan dont make loopers as such, there are a few of theirs that qualify here.

Santa Monica has their Santa Monica West Coaster, the coaster built on the pier made famous by shows like Baywatch (and Rocket Power on Nickelodeon :)) built in 1996, that is fairly recent, as squeemu said, as is Steel Eel, also built by Morgan. This ride is what some refer to as a Jr. Hypercoaster, or other like terms. It is 150ft, and other than that, it is identical to an out and back hypercoaster, with airtime and big drops.

Excalibur, an arrow ride, is in fact an Arrow "Runaway Train" which is their mine trains, this one however doesn't look at all like a mine train, it is elevated off the ground and has normal looking trains.

MGM had Lightning Bolt, an orignially Intamin indoor ride, but was extended in length by Arrow in 97, it could be classified as a runaway train, but its trains are very modern, plus there isnt any theming, so I guess this counts.

Thunderation at Silver Dollar City again Arrow, looks wooden, but is yet another runaway train, quite a nice one mind you.

Titan, at Space World was 196ft, built in 1994, although this is too much like a hyper to count as a non hyper steel :)

Thats about all Im willing to find today :)

As you can see, they are considerably rare, and most can be classified as family anyway. But its understandable, parks want things that make a statement, and the best way to do that is to build high, or build different, or build inversions.

Honestly I can't think of one right now except for the coasters that are almost hypers, but miss the mark by like 5 or 10 feet.

I think Skull Mountain made by Intamin qualifies, although it is in the dark. It's a great ride and is in a wharehouse, so I would imagine it doesn't go over 50ft. high. The airtime in the back car over the crest of the first hill is huge!

Wow, I'm stunned. This is a great question -- we get so focused on new elements and broken records, we forget that "regular" coasters can be just as much fun. But honestly, I can't think of a one! (I can't think of all that much right now, but oh well...)

If you do not count wild mouses, junior coasters, or regualr mine trains, then the only two POPULAR coasters that fit your criteria are:

Steel Eel
Gemini

Gemini is a steel coaster that doesnt go upside down but....it is a racing coaster with wood supports, so i guess that is a special element in a way.

I wouldn't count Quicksilver Express at Bonfontae Gardens a kiddie or juinor coaster, but if you want, go ahead.

I GOT ONE!
Journey to the Center of the Earth at Tokyo DisneySea. Yes! HAHA! WOOHOO! Ok... thats enough of that. Its not completely a coaster... its more of a dark ride... but its got a 40 foot coaster drop at the end of it. And I agree with all of you... the first coaster that came to mind was Steel Eel. And as the page was loading, Quicksilver Express came into mind too... but you people had already thought of those.

First of all, Steel Eel is not even a prototype. The only thing that is even remotely close to being a prototype and not being a hyper or looping coaster is the Impulse Coaster. Keep in mind that a Hammerhead Stall has been made official for Fantasy Island in the UK.

And Wild Mouses aren't prototypes either. They've been around for decades! Maybe the Reverchon spinning coaster even though they are very similar to the Virginia Reel.

I think you need to read the original post. It says coasters that aren't prototypes, hypers, loopers, or any unique attributes. Hes asking for, essentially, basic coasters.

That ride is pathetic. there is no airtime, at least not when i was on it. maybe a little bit of theming would be nice too. and maybe if it was more than 20 seconds.

It's hard to believe the company that brought us MF and Volcano brought us this.

Journey to the Center of the Earth is not a roller coaster. It's the same as the now defunct Rocket Rods at DL, so unless you count RR then JTTCE is not a roller coaster. Sorry to burst your bubble, just had to to do it.

Tons and Tons if You Look Closely

Hey
There are actually tons around the world but they always get over looked.

In Recent years there have been coasters like Delphis at Festival Gate in Japan
http://coaster-network.com/bm/senyo/delphis.htm

or Vanish at Cosmo World in japan.
http://coaster-network.com/bm/senyo/vanish.htm

How about pax's Wild Train in France? or the soquets Runaway Train in Malaysia
http://coaster-network.com/bm/soquet/train.htm

The Caripro batfliers are no longer prototypes so all he new ones of them like the new ones at nasu Highlands and Hamanako pal Pal

Along with a ton of various Sansei, Senyo, Meshio and pax Coasters (and prolly various others lol

hope that helps
