Wow! Only almost everybody knew about this. The ride goes up the lift, curved 180 drop, then it does a Loop, Roll, then double corkscerws, and a long turn to the right.

I've got this coaster on a DVD of mine. Watching it, it doesn't look that impressive. Course, perhaps thats because there just isn't any length to the coaster. I dunno, I'm not all too turned on by stand-ups.

I must admit though, I don't think I've ever seen anyone saying a zero-g roll on a standup would be awesome...nope can't recall seeing that anywhere at all. Guess I am not looking at the threads you are.

(Dorney Park i have in mind.)

Hey, does Intamin even make stand-ups anymore? Because I thought that stopped when B&M made B&M. I heard that B&M led the stand-up projects for Intamin. But anyway, I am not sure how "sweet" that would be...

This isn't an Intamin, it's a Giovanola.
The track-layout is by Intamin though.

Thats like saying that B&M aren't B&M coasters because Giovanola too makes much of their track. Intamin, as far as I know, still will make Standups, if a park requests one. I wonder if they would still use the "B&M" style track, or they would move to their wonderful box track.

Intamin made 2 stand-up when Walter and Claude were working there........ and 1 stand-up was made after they left...... that one is Shockwave........

Despite no Walter and Claude's design, but you can still see the trace of their influence (small dip after lifthill.......).

Shockwave isn't that good. It's far too short, and is also fairly rough now it's getting on for 8 years old. The best thing about it is being allowed to ride backwards during ERS's!

There is a really boring bit as well just after the zero g roll, it just travels straight for 5-6 seconds before it enters the 1st corkscrew

Shockwave is not that good at all. It is slow, boring, and over too quick. The loop is small, and there is a small kick just before you enter it. Although, i must admit that the barrel roll is amazing on a standup. You feel really good going throigh this!

i've heard about it, and i think many have. i also have a video of it, and it appears far to short, and lacks other good elements, like drops.

Only stand up coasters can be rode backwards. This is because you have to stand, if you were sitting you'd have to kneel down. It would be impossible to do this on any inverted.

I belive that he was talking about turning the whole train around (front car is now the last car). That would be great though to have at least one train runing backwards during special events.

Intamin stand-ups aren't that smooth. I don't know if Batman The Escape counts as one, but it was headbangy and had weird curves towards the end (well, the weird curves were cool... but the last ones hurt a bit). The curved drop was very cool too...

Oh, whoops! sorry about that. It would however, be impossible if you didn't want to turn the train around. Imagine MF with the trains backwards, now that would be cool!

I wonder why B&M never tried making a barrel roll like that, but higher and with a steeper entry angle. U'd float all around it wud be sooooooo sweet. Modify Mantis PLEASE and do sumthin like that with an added cobra roll, just reconfigure fantis into Medusa Easts layout.

I'd have to dissagree Dash. I rode Batman: The Escape, and it was the worst coaster I had ever ridden. It's very smooth, but it turns and banks so sharply it hurts. Considering there are only 3 Intamin standups, I disliked 1/3 of them. Not very good. I'll take the far superior(and far less painfull) TOGO standup anyday.

It looks decent but not amazing. BTW, there is a pretty big difference between a 0 g roll and a barrrel roll.

It isn't the size of the magician's wand its the magic he can perform with it! ;) :D

shockwave is a short ride true, importantly it is FUN!

it's an incredible ride to say it was built in 1994 and still is the only stand up coaster in europe and the only stand up coaster in the world to feature the heartline spiral element , which is excellently positioned above the rapids ride below - its an amazing achievement, remember DMP hadn't done anything that spectacular before shockwave, now the park has expanded nicely with apocalypse, stormforce 10 and golden nuggets etc - it couldn't have done this without shockwave! and perhaps if Mr B and Mr M hadn't helped the deisgn process of shockwave and seen all the R&D that went into the product their coaster's may have taken a differnt form or sadly not at all!

We aren't blessed with many coasters in uk, particularly custom deisgned freeform multi element ones ( even collosos @ thorpe next year is basically off the shelf) so i think we should be grateful and not to down on everything ;)

The stand-up looks decent but it has too much straight track. Anyways intamin isn't that great at making stand-ups. There specialty is hypers.
