| What do you call a roller coaster in your native language?
Like the title says, what do you call a roller coaster in your native language? And what does it means? In Chinese, there are 2 words for that, depending where the person is from. In China, HK, Malaysia and Singapore, it's commonly known as 'guo shan che'. It literally means 'over the mountain car'. In Taiwan, it's more commonly known as 'yun xiao fei che', that means 'flying car on top of cloud'. If I am not mistaken, some European languages refer to roller coasters as 'Russian Mountain'.

I live in Belgium, and in Belgium, and also in The Netherlands we call a roller coaster: achtbaan (figure-eight track) or roetsjbaan (sliding track) But most people say rollercoaster...it sounds cooler. |

Here in Sweeden it's called Berg och dal bana, wich sounds really silly, it means something like Mountain and Valley track.

In Spanish it is called montaña rusa which means "Russian mountain." I have a friend from Hungary and when I talked about coasters to him, he didn't know what roller coaster meant, so I pointed to my Son of Beast shirt. He looked it up and translated to English for me. Roller Coaster in Hungarian translated to English is "wave train."

| Rollercoasters in foreign tongues
French for rollercoaster is Les Montagnes Russes which means Russian Mountains, this is also the same in Italian-Montagne Russe. Italians also call rollercoasters Ottovolante (flying 8). In Scotland we call them fillyerpants!

In my "native" language we prefer to refer to them as Berg og dal bane, almost the same as in Sweden. It means something like top and drop track :) Ok, maybe not exactly that, but that sounded coolest...

Hello, I'm in Switzerland, but in a part of the Switzerland, we speak French, the names are Montagnes Russes for Hypercoasters and others, and for Looping Coasters, the name's Grand 8!!! For the Dutch people from the Switzerland, I'm don't sure, but it's Achterbahn!!! Léonardo
