I've heard that The shockwave at drayton manor themepark (only stand-up rollercoaster in europe) has a unique feature kept secret! Some people have been talking of riding it backwards! If anyone knows how this is possible please let us know!

Hey,

I think this can be done like any other coaster but to what I see out of it it would be extreamly high g-forces!

I have just riden Shockwave backwards on the ECC trip it is quite confortable that way around but it is only posible at the managers discresion (ie rarely). The trains are not turned you just stand the other way around on the ride. This is also the only ride to allow this because all American Stand-ups will not allow it for insurance purposes.

can you see much when riding it backwards? wouldnt the headrest be in the way of your vision? The zero-G roll is called an inline spiral by the way, i think it can only be done on a stand up coaster! quite a good inversion if you ask me.

does any one have pictures of the inline spiral, or does someone want to explain it to me, sounds a bit special!

Not really it is just a Zero-G-Roll like the ones on B&M Sitdowns.

Riding the Shockwave backwards is just disorienting - seeing where you have just been, and the in-line twist is really wierd. The looks from people on the ground are always good to see too!

Actually, what I do sometimes on cetain rides, is I sit in the back seat, and look behind me the whole ride, it's really fun and intense that way. It's comes in handy when you ride a hyper in the rain, but make sure to hold on to the restraint tight.
No, Roller Coaster Tycoon calls 'Zero-G Rolls' inline spiral/twist. But hey, they also call S & S towers "Whoa Belly"s. Which in fact are Space Shot and Turbo Drops...
Actually, if you use the UK version of RCT then a Space Shot is called a Launched Freefall -which sort of makes more sense that "Whoa Belly" - doesn't it?

If you rise Shockwave backwards doesn't your nose get squashed? That ride hurt my head going forwards, I'd imagine backwards would be painful!

If you turn your head to the side you'd be riding sideways.... Hmmm. A sideways stand-up coaster? That would be one heck of an idea!

Hmmm, Shockwave seems pretty interesting. The drop seems very twister. I love the zero-g-roll concept in a stand-up coaster layout. Seems pretty kewl! The ride lacks elements though. It's a pretty satisfactory stand-up. Is it rough though? Well, as much as Shockwave is an awesome coaster, it can't compare to The Riddler's Revenge at Six Flags Magic Mountain. That thing is still the world's tallest, fastest, longest stand-up coaster in the world. It also features more inversions on a stand-up coaster. I'd like to see an Intamin stand-up like Shockwave top that! B&M stand-ups are the best!

It IS a 0-G-Roll to a tee.An Inline Spiral is just what Intamin Call it.
Diffrent companys haf diffrent names e.g Boomerang & Cobra Roll vrom Vekoma and B&M

If the ride was a B&M then it would be called a 0-G-Roll

and its not a B&M.... its an intamin... so its an inline spiral, its slightly different to a zero G roll anyway, infact its an element only available with a stand-up rollercoaster.

take a look for your self, a zero G roll involves the track in one continuous straight line, but this picture clearly shows that the train comes out at a different angle and position to where it entered, its very hard to explain so you have to bare with me. just take a look and hopefully you'll see what i mean

Woah! That seems pretty intense. What if B&M made zero-g-rolls in their stand-ups? That would be extremely awesome! I can't wait 'till their next design of stand-up has a zero-g-roll. It better have one!

yeah sorry i didnt mean to say it changes direction, what i mean is that with a zero G roll the track merely twists round back to its original state, with this element, it goes upwards then twists and goes back down again, like a really squashed up corkscrew gone wrong anyway its a really nice inversion and does pull in a few G's! to make it quite an intense ride.

B:TE is another possiblity due to half the restraints been completly fixed. That means backward riding is possoble. As for the view, there isn't one just a head rest and is it not as painful as forwards.

I still think B&M stand-ups are WAAAY better than any other stand-up coaster.
