| Jumbo Jet
Can anyone tell me about the "lift mechanism" for the Jumbo Jet? Also, if anyone has pictures of a Jumbo Jet, please post them. Thanks! |

i really dont know anything about the lift mechanism but my guess would be that it is a normal chain lift becuase people say that space moutnain is a jumbo jet and it had a normal chain lift hill

If I remember correctly each car has an electrical motor with a tire in it, and there is a third rail on the the lift that powers the motor. The lift goes up in a spiral to the top, which makes sense since the ride was designed to be portable.

Thats right. Jumbo Jets used some sort of electrical motors on the cars to get it up the chain lift. I think CoasterGlobe.com has a lot of information on Jumbo Jets models if you want more info.

I don't think that Whizzer is a jumbo jet, but it has the same type of lift hill.

Rebel, you've confused yourself. Space mountain paris is made by vekoma, your right. BUT he was refering to space monutain florida. it's NOT a jumbo jet, although the design is similar, and yes it does have a chain lift. It's made by another company. Jumbo jet's aren't quite that, there are part of a family called jet stars, like this i think:- jet star 1 jet star 2 jet star 3 jet star 3 jumbo jet jet star 4 i'll get some pics (scroll down). Whizzer's unique out of this- the lift is clearly a jumbo jet jet star but has a custom layout.it appears to be a mix of a few old jet stars BUT THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF THIS. It's unlikely cause the pices on jet stars are mostly curved. So it's probably custom. Someone like roomraider would know a lot more about this than i do. The lift hill has an electric current which powers motors on the cars. They don't appear to have anti rolls on them, i suppose it's not nessercy cause the motors would "stick". But i'm not sure. EDIT: i just found a jet star 4. :) |

they hurt a bit to much. the lap bars need to be padded and need better head rests. I rode one in seattle (near the space needle) and hurt my head (head ache) and my stomach.

I said that Vekoma made space mountains, and schwarzkopf makes jumbo jets, clearing up something that another guy said. He said that space mountain was a jumbo jet when it is not. Yeah its similiar, but its not a jumbo jet.

I think the Zambeezee Zinger at WOF was a jet star, but they took it out and replaced it w/ a painful boomerang. It was awesome. It had a spiral lift, and all the cars are housed w/ an electric motor that propels them up the hill.

I think that the electric motors are a very inpractical way to power the coaster in my opinion.

why so impracticle? its good for a coaster that doesn't have much room (for a real lift), plus they are a lot quiter too.

I've been on the Jumbo Jet at Coney Island, NY. It's a pretty good ride for being so small and old. This will never happen, but it'd be nice if they somehow updated the trains a tad. The "seat belts" really hurt at the end brakes. You're pushed forward and those little things hurt your chest and waist. |

Rebel, i know what you meant but you have to make it clear cause some people here don't realise there are more space monutains outside the usa and go on for posts saying "its not vekoma!" etc.
