| 3 Years In A Row - First Coaster To Open ?
If I'm correct, SF Magic Mountain for three consecutive years, will be that one park that opened a coaster first in a new year. Goliath - February 11, 2000 Goliath JR - March 31 , 2001 X - January 12, 2002 (Despite its late debut, it still opens first in the year 2002) |

that's sort of a weird trend because usually the GP doesnt come to parks till aprilish. even in california. most parks dont do anything important till the summer because thats when they pull in a lot of people.

Don't worry about it, I thought it was pretty funny. As for early openings, SFMM can start the publicity machine going early so that by summer, everyone knows about the new coaster. It's also good for us enthusiasts because we get to ride it early in the year, before the crowds pile in! |

Goliath Jr. was not the first coaster to open in 2001. It was California Screamin' at DCA which opened Feb. 8, 2001. So SFMM has not opened the first coaster of the year three years in a row.

First of all i didnt know that goliath opened a yaer late and i would like to see some research on that, second of all goliath jr was anounced in just last november so how was it suppose to open the april before that? Third, So Cal never has a solid opening season, Supremem Scream opened late summer, Ghostrider in the end of november, Windjammer in Mid march, Superman opened a long time past its official date, deja vu opened late summer, and goliath and X both in winter.

Nosk8er, Gareth Lewis was just joking around saying those coasters were due to open earlier. He was just making fun of how late X opened. Screamweaver, three out of four years? What four years did they open the earliest coasters on? I only know of Goliath and Goliath Jr.

I like how California (even though it may not be intenitonal) doesn't follow the rest of the nations "seasons" and it opens it's rides whenever (and actually has that option to do so). Like haux said DCA opened in February where if it was any where else it would have opened in late March or early April. Goliath wouldn't have had people screaming for the new year, and X would'n be terrorizing people now.

I bet Six Flags will try to use this achievement as a marketing scheme. But who really cares if you opened the first coaster of the year three years in a row? derrr........

Of course they will be among the first to open rides each year. They are a year round park. I would like to see Cedar Point debut Wicked Twister in February! Talk about wind chill. Brrrrr!:*)

wait. Isn't X open now though? And it is still 2001 and i know it is open cause i saw pictures of it going with people on it. so X is the last coaster to open in 2001 not fist to open in 2002

It opens to the gp on 1/12, I think. So I guess TECHNICALLY it's not open yet, they're just giving people ERT. Wow, hyper poster!

Hmm.....I wonder if they will get a 2003 coaster, I doubt it, but it is still possible. I guess if you look at SFWOA, they didn't get coasters consecutivly, but they did get what, 4 coasters in 2 years. Thats a ton. And the best thing of all, they are all awesome coasters.

Supreme Scream opened on July 3, 1998 because Cedar Fair LP had JUST acquired Knott's Berry Farm the previous December (1997). And to me, that's quite quick to order a ride all the way from Utah, have its specifications and design planned out, have it delivered, and install it in just a few months. It has nothing to do with delays, at least for Supreme Scream. |
Originally posted by kraxleRIDAH X - January 12, 2002 (Despite its late debut, it still opens first in the year 2002)
well technically X had public riders on it in 2001, so I'd say it opened in 2001, not 2002. I got no hateration to SF or MM, but I'm sure SF will say it opened in 02 just for advertising purposes. |
Originally posted by Gareth Lewis X - due to open August 2001
Actually, X was due to open July 4, 2001. As Raptor said, MM usually opens the first coaster of the new year because Magic Mountain is open year round.

A) This shouldn't be an argument, stop arguing, you people can be such idiots. MM isnt this evil park that hates Cedar Point and all small parks and had no regard for its customers, etc. the usual myths. They open their rides earlier because they ar e ayear-round park (sorta, they r only open on weekends in most of the offseason). B) X wasnt scheduled to open July 4th, that was a convenient rumor, the press release on 12/31/00 said early summer, which may or may not have meant 7/4...that would have been cool tho. C) The reason SoCal has no regard for the offseasons is not only because of the whole year roudn thang but because Disney kind of is the ringmaster. Disney can afford ot be open all year and due to its incredible fame around the world, it get s acontinously strong flow of customers thru the winter. Magic Mountain and Knotts both want to catch the overflow of customers from Disney so to compete they stay open all year and open coasters whenever.

Somebody's quite slow. ;) But that's alright, maybe next year they'll rip off SFWOA again and build a taller version of Xflight with an extra corkscrew. ;) Last edited by Screamweaver; 01-18-2002 at 12:28 AM. |

And doing it the honest way - one coaster every few years, not adding 3 in one year just to catch up. Edit: LoL, CedarPointzter and me posted that at the same time.

Hehehe, Magic Mountain Fans, how little ye know about 2003. Did you really think Cedar Point would just get Wicked Twister? Thats just a starter for the future. If you don't get it, I was being sarcastic. |
