I rode Vortex in 2000, and it was pretty cool. I had no idea it was going on 15 years of age! That's pretty neat, yo. It's still running pretty smooth (at least when I went). There was no headbanging, and there were even some places with airtime. Nice drop, too.

I love the Vortex--it is probably my favorite at PKI. The airtime on the first drop is great, and so is the hang time in the corkscrews. I feel like I'm dropping right out on my head! No problems with headbanging here. Well, maybe we can get PKI to shake up some champagne and spray it on one of the trains. (jk, lol.):D

I may be wrong but i think this is the 30th anniversary of the Racer as well. Vortex is still one of my favorite steel coasters and in my top 20

It's nice to see others who appreciate Vortex. I believe it's one of the most underrated coasters in the country. This ride is unbelievable from start to finish. And to realize that it's now 15 years old is hard to imagine!

Not to put a bummer on this, but if Vortex opened up in 1987, wouldn't this be the 16'th season of operation? Yeah it's been there for 15 years, but if you're going to celebrate anything like this, wouldn't u celebrate based on seasons of operation?

It was built in 1972 the year the park opened it's gates, replacing Cincy's former park, Coney Island (no, I'm not mixed up with NY). They should do something big.

They should do something big? Well that is what Tomb Raider the Ride is, something big. Apparently the most abitious(sp) ride at the park in its 30 year history. For some reason I doubt this will be more ambitious(sp) than the worlds tallest, fastest, and longest coaster at the time(Beast), first hyper woodie, fastest woodie, and only looping woodie(sob), first suspended(bat), first stand up with a loop(king cobra), first full circuit with 6 loops(vortex), and worlds tallest gyro drop(drop zone). For Tomb Raider the ride to be more ambitious than that it better be more than just a top spin. Of course last year PKI also called The Wild Thornberries River Adventure the best themed ride ever at the park but there are many other rides with a better theme, FOF, Top Gun, and Phantom Theater especially. 2002 is also the 30th anniversary of the park, The Racer, The Beastie, and many small rides throughout the park. It is also the 15th anniversary of the Vortex, which is just a few months younger than me, lol.

I love the Vortex. It was the first looping coaster I ever rode, and was a far cry from my second biggest coaster at that time, the Jackrabbit. Happy b-day, Vortex, another 15 years of greatness to you.

I love the layout a lot, but I didn't think it would be smooth. I stand corrected!

Vortex is a great ride... I still remember when it was brand new and the baddest coaster on the planet. Long gone are the days... Live on Vortex!

Vortex really bangs you around a lot, but it's still a great ride. :)

When I headed to Kings Island about 1992 or so, it topped the Beast as my favorite coaster there. I think I rode it something like 3 or 4 times while I was there. It obviously puts CP's Corkscrew to shame. What a coaster I would like to have in my backyard.

I'll go along with Vortex being a great ride. It was probably my favorite multi-looper until I rode Kumba at BGT.

Vortex is now the oldest steel coaster at the park since KC is gone. The oldest steel at a 30 year old park is 15.

Vortex is old but great, and also is one of top coasters today despite its age.

Vortex is one of the best rides at the park. It's a little old but has stayed pretty smooth over the years.

Yeah racer and beastie are the oldest rides in the park. They both came out in 72. Also, the beastie used to be called Scooby Doo's ghoster coaster, but it changed when they added a tunnel at the end of the drop. Just a little FYI. Shouldn't this be in american coasters?

I think it used to be called just Scooby Doo. Close enough though.
The Eifel Tower will also be 30.

I thought it was just scooby doo but all of the other rides were called scooby doo's ghoster coaster so i just put that instead. How old is the entire park?

30 years old. This is PKI's 30th anniversary. When it opened it had the Beastie(Scooby Doo), Racer, Bavarian Beetle(galaxy type coaster) log flume(now Wild Thornberrie's River Adventure), Eifel Tower, and some flat rides brought over from Coney Island like the Flying Eagles, Scrambler, Monster, and a few other rides and attractions.
