Dueling Dragons also getting a make over.

I was going to add to Gregs Hulk Redoing of the trains story but i can't. I just wanted to add that DD is also getting some train make overs. Train 1 is already done. I am not sure what train they are re-doing now but there all pieces all over the transfer track floor near the garage.

You canr read Greg's artical and see the pics here

it looks as if its the yearly stuff. New wheels, pressure washing the trains, ect. The thing about hulk is that it got 3 completely new cars

I'm glad they're doing this. When I visited IOA in December of 2000, Hulk was riding pretty rough for a B&M. I'm sure this will make the coaster ride smoother and make it generally enjoyable. Kudos to IOA for making these long overdue upgrades.

This is good, Hulk definately needed some new cars. I last rode Hulk in November. On every train, I noticed some cars were rattling really violently, almost as if the seat was coming apart, while other trains were smooth as glass. This will be a great improvement to both Hulk and DD. IOA is smart! Cedar Point is stupid, or they would have replaced Magnum's trains a long time ago.

This is perfect!!!! I be there on Easter and be able to test the new trains. This will be great considering the trains of DD looked rusted and beat up. Cant wait to see them in 3 weeks.

Not with Six Flags, since it doesn't intend to amuse the guests.

All I saw in the Thrillnetwork article was pictures of the Hulk train. I'm not saying that DD isn't getting work done on their trains, just didn't see any pics of it.

I can confirm it is getting work done on it. I saw it, but didn't have the digital camera with me. There were peices lying everywhere. Ok, first of all, I can't confirm when the new cars will be in circulation. They are adding 2-3 cars at a time, and then have to test it with no passengers for days. Hulk should be alot better with the new fixes. It recieves much more wear and tear then most other coasters b/c of a launched lift. The problem with Dueling Dragons is its speed. It goes wayyyyyy to fast for its design. Even if the cars are brand new, you can hear them tearing themselves apart on Ice's cobra roll. It seems IOA is more interested in keeping the collision points accurate then making the ride more enjoyable.

I would agree with you that DD is a bit faster in some parts than it might have been designed for, including the cobra roll for Ice, and that half loop helixy thingy that Fire has. Both are very fast and intense, with changes of direction that are a bit too fast and cause some nasty headbanging.

I am going to disagree with the fact that they want to keep the dueling parts accurate. Many times, they will just run one side during slow times, and also, if they are running two sides, and for some reason, you don't duel, they are less than interested in giving you a reride. ESPESCIALLY if you wanted a long time for that front row.

Has anyone heard about the little car ride thingy in Dr. Seuss Landing, is that Mc ride thingy that goes above everything open yet?! J/W.

this should be quite intresting its not very often you hear of wunderful things such as the above happening some say DD may need it, i think not, they can take them good ol' trains slap em into my back yard i tell ya what, ill make 5 dollars a person to let people sit on it, i mean thats wut its all about i live my whole life just waiting for something to happen and that in all do respect is a great way to live life, u know cause in the end its really not ganna mean much. if u take one things add it with a nother u might get something wunderful or you might get something like osama bin ladin, but any way since im kinda getting off this wunderful scenario, i say they fix them trains up and give em to me i mean cmon they is just ganna throw them out or something, i tell you wut ill write a letter to the fine park of islands of adventure and as them for it , and i know that theyll give it to me u know why cause im just a plain old good guy, and if any one wants dibs on a fine masterpiece u just shout me a holla u know how it is give a 110 % and ull be fine, thats all for now

Yeah, I saw the train parts too and didn't think much of it, normal maintenance to me. You see it on Fire before entering the station. Looked like they we're painting the parts to make it look new again.

On the talk about deuling or not, last year they ran each side when it was ready (not dueling), and many complained.
Seems they listened because I've already been twice this year and the trains deul everytime even if they have to wait longer.
If they stop deuling, we can easily let the park know by posting messages on the www.disboards.com because IOA monitors it.

Now Gwazi at BGT is a different story, they stopped deuling last year and it seems it will stay that way. Like I said in another thread, I think it's because of the stress on the tracks. Send BGT an e-mail from their web site if you're bummed about it.

Parts

I saw parts on the transfer section when I was there, but all I saw were the casings of the train that made them look like dragons. I never actually saw any "train" parts. I think it's great that IOA is redoing the trains. Other parks should look into this.

ok, status update. Hulk's train 3 is in circulation with 3 new cars (the last three, 6,7, and 8) They ran incredible smooth. The peices of DD are still lying everywhere and it seemed as if nothing happened. Universal is renovating many water areas (i.e. curious george goes to town, the water in Toon lagoon, and some places)
the park is just getting ready for the easter rush.

Any chance that the old Hulk cars will be for sale? :D

Even though they probably cost more than a real car...

Do you really expect a park to write back if you ask them to send you the hulk trains????? I asked BGW for a wheel or something from Drachen Fire, and they werent able to send me anything. I am going to BGW this summer. Do you know how much a train weighs??? It is atleast as much as a car. It would be inpossible to send something that huge.

Edit- Sry Greg, I had started writing this before i saw that.

Quick update- All the spare parts of DD that were scattered all over the ground by the transfer track are now gone. It seems train 1 and 2 are running with the new parts. I can't confirm this because IOA was packed on Saturday and i only got one ride and that was on Fire.
