Am I the only one who experiences super-smooth rides on Son of Beast? It was smooth and enjoyable for... definately a top 5 ride!

I rode it early last year when it was very new still and the weather was very hot and humid. It was the roughest ride I had (and still have) ever ridden. I still was glad that I got to go on it (it was open for about 3 hours over the two day period I was there) but I wasn't able to pay much attention to what was going on because of the pain (mostly in my back). I'd love to give it another shot though.

It was such a shock when I first started reading reviews like yours (no offense to you of course ) When I was there it was open 100% of the time. Everybody who got off loved it, etc. etc. It is a shame that a great ride give such unpredictable rides.

The first time I rode it I though it was even rougher than Beast ( The Beast is a great ride by the way ) but now, it seems EXTREMELY smooth. Maybe the temp. or could they really have re-tracked it like was stated in a rumor a while back?

I rode SOB during the ACE ERT lasts year and it was extremely rough. I got a bruise on my arm the size of a grapefruit. I anticipate it being much smoother this year

I rode it early this year and I found it pretty bumpy, expecially in the helix. I thought the worst thing by far was the chain lift. It sounds like a automobile moter is right next to your head.

I just came back from PKI on 6/2/01 and I have to say It banged the ****** out of my knee!! My height combined with that hard as hell lap bar made a bad combination. I was limping the rest of the day!
If you're around 6'1" try a seat not on the wheel. I.E. in the middle. It's smooth.

[ This Message was edited by: goonsta on 2001-06-04 23:11 ]

I rode it twice last year. The first time was Memorial Day Weekend when it re-opend and I thought it was rough as many of you have said. Then I rode it later that year in September and it was a little smoother. This year, I love it. I was surprised how smooth it was compared to last year. I have heard that they have smoothed it out over the Winter season. I love the speed and the loop, but the track layout is pretty lame IMHO. The father is much better!!

I just have to disagree for a minute about tallness -- I'm 6'3" and I had QUITE an enjoyable ride! I was right above one of the wheels as well. Normally because of my height, any coaster's restraints can be trying, but I actually found SOB to be comfortably accomodating. Just my 2 cents...

You were tall enough so you could wedge your knees between the seats and the handlebars. I had about an inch of space. That little inch made all the difference.

When I was at PKI on May 5, I found the SOB to have just the right amount of rougness. It was pretty violent, but not brutally so. The train seemed to shiver and jump off the track at all the right moments. I think it's a great ride (but not quite as great as The Beast itself).

I think the ride is MUCH more rideable this year. My very first ride last July was glass-smooth. (morning) By late afteroon, it was headache city. This year it is SO much better.
About the new raised floor...PKI's Jeffery Siebert said that Premier insisted on raising the floors. They want people restrained in a "Z", with the knees high, and the lap low.

When I rode it last year on one of the hottest days of the year my vision was shaking in my eyes at the bottom of the first drop but this year it is VERY smooth. It's a ride you can 10 times and not need an Advil afterwards.
