the new rollercoaster at SFM

http://www.bizjournals.com/buffalo/stories/2003/02/17/focus2.html

most people know about that morgan hypercoaster that was supposed to be built in six flags mexico that got canceled....... well now in that article it says that it will be 6500 ft long, 230 ft high, and with a speed of 55 mph? 55 mph with a 230 ft drop? thats kinda strange. does anyone know the right speed for this coaster. and has construction started yet? if it has, does anyone have any pics?

Yea, there's no way that something 230 feet tall could only go 55 mph. They must've meant 75 or something. I find it interesting that Chance Morgan first flew to Mexico City to discuss the coaster on the morning of September 11, 2001, too. Apparently that had a little something to do with delaying the coaster.

just because it's 230 ft tall doesn't mean it has to go all teh way to the ground. Look at Manhattan Express...

Yea, but Manhattan Express goes 67 mph. You only need about a 100 foot drop to attain speeds of 55 mph. If the coaster indeed didn't go all the way to the ground from 230 feet up and went 55 mph, then the bottom of the first drop would be VERY high above the ground. I still think there's a typo in that report.

Probably. It is good to see them finally going ahead with it.
6500 feet long? that would be a bit on the long side wouldn't it?
Maby not though. After all it is a hyper. Even so I can only name a handful of hypers with trak that long.

As mentioned before (kind of), The main reason this ride is not being built is because of the local government. See back in 2001 Sixflags wanted to put in this new cool coaster into SFM. They applied to get all the building permits, but got a little ahead of themselves and started clearing land before an Enviromental study was either completed, or done at all. This lead to the delay of the coaster, and some fines. It was rumored that SF payed the fines and was all set to go, but nothing really came of this. In Novemeber it was rumored that this coaster was cancelled and that park officals denied they even had supports for it (which there are pictures of). This article certainly is intresting, especially coming out now. I'm pretty sure the 55 mph is a typo though. I wonder if this will lead to any new developments on the project.

They could be building this coaster on a mountanous region or something and thats why it will only go 55mph. But i think its a typo also
The thrill ride measures 2,000 meters long and 70 meters high with a speed of 55 mph going into the first drop.
The way they say it, it sounds like that is the speed before the first drop...

Yea, it does sound that way, but its not a launched coaster, its a hypercoaster, so there's no way it could go 55 mph into the first drop. Chance Morgan doesn't build launchers.........or do they?.........no they don't. It's a hypercoaster. :D

As far as 55 mph going into the first drop, it could have a drop right out of the station, kind of like SOB has. My guess though is that's it's more than likely a typo. Hopefully this coaster will go through, and all will work out. 6,500ft of track is a lot, sounds like this ride could be pretty good.

Known Morgan it'll have TONS of air time. And with that kind of track length it's got plenty of oppertunites for the hills required. I may just have to plan a trip to Mazico City someday after all (considering they have like 3 amusement parks).

well its said to be a hyper twister..but morgan has not made any twiseted coasters ..well SD2Ks helixs or WildThings..but does SFM have the room for a very big coaster like that?... i mean they didnt even get a BTR beemer they got a SSLC..and thats teh park with teh first boomer... and mostof the over coaster look compact so it will be odd to see the layout of this coaster...
