| Where is this new coaster??
Hi all, I"m new here, but a big coaster fan. My friend sent me this pic. Anyone know where it is (or will be)? It moves from being parallel to the Earth to perpendicular to it. Thanks, azo

Its called a "tilt" coaster and its made by Vekoma. The name of it and location escapes me, perhaps someone else can fill in the blanks.

Isn't this the one they are putting on the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas?

The Vegas one just sits on top of the Stratosphere doesn't move more than a few feet. I didn't even know that a Tilt Coaster had been built. I've seen concept drawings, but didn't know one was built.

I've seen this thing before, with Vekoma's track record (pun not intended) it just looks unsafe. I can just see the train go flying off the track before the tilt is vertical! Maybe that's just me :) Vekoma is not the worst manufacturer, but they have had their fair share of problems. I know it's probably safe and all, but it just looks so risky, I bet they will never build one in the States.

Dude, their was some article in ACE Magazine, I think, behind the safety issue of this thing. Supposidly there's a stopper at the end and brakes lining the tilting part. The brakes wont release until the track is locked in place vertical, then the stopper will drop. The stopper is also there in case the brakes fail as well. I'm sure it's all planned out in advance.

I believe there are three backup methods in case the first one fails. Trust it, it's not going to go flying off the track. That has to be the main thing they thought of when designing this ride.

Yeah, and also tagging onto what Chip said ^^ I'm sure it's all planned out, it just looks rather strange. It's probably perfectly safe, I would just be really freaked out going on that thing, and I normally don't get that way on ANY coaster. I was barely nervous the first time on MF.

Fantasy island is supposed to be getting one of these now, instead of the hammerhead; to beat oblivion it would have to exceed 180ft.

It looks cool. I'm sure it gives the same thrill as one of those regular elevator rides. It's jsut the tracks aren't connected at first and you aren't lying on your back at the end.

That'd be cool if they got one, but the fact that it's Fantasy Island makes this seem sorta iffy. As far as safety, I'm sure they planned that out very well, and I don't think you'll be hearing about a train flying off the end of the track any time soon. *Crosses fingers

The "what happens if the brakes fail" factor is part of what makes this a thrilling ride. I have a pov on my computer of this and I think it would be great for a midwest park to build as "the only coaster of its kind in the North America"...

As Chip said, making sure the train stayed on would have to have been the main thing they thought about. There are most likely several different ways to keep it from sliding off the track...

I would be scared that the track wouldnt line up correctly and when the train was released, it would fly off the track!!! AAAHHHH!!!
Originally posted by Alex Westerman Isn't this the one they are putting on the Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas?
I think you are mistaking this for the Arrow Fishhook coaster. And it hasn't been approved by the Las Vegas City Council yet. The 700' version was rejected and I believe the 500' was as well. In the near future, I think the Stratosphere is attempting to resubmitt the same plans hopefully to changed minds. So in it's place, the X-Scream (Interative Rides) opened recently to rave reviews. |

X Scream isnt even a coaster. It's A coaster train on a piece of track that moves in a see-saw motion and the train slides back and forth. The ride would be tame, but atop the Stratosphere, it shoots over the edge directly to the ground, of course you remain high a bove it, but its scary.

I didn't say X-Scream was a coaster. I just said it replaced the Fishhook coaster plans as a temporary stand-in.
