Blacking out on coasters.

This came up in a conversation I was having with my friend today. Have you ever blacked out on a coaster? I blacked out for a couple seconds after the first loop on loch ness monster at BGW. I didnt brace myself going through it and hit my head quite hard. My buddy said he has blacked out more than once during the final helix on the raptor. Has it ever happened to you?

Goliath's helix is infamous for making people black out. I did on Goliath and on the loops of the old Texas Tornado, now Zonga.

I have never blacked out on any coaster, but the closest that I have come to doing so, or at least it feels like it, is on Superman: Ultimate Flight at Six Flags over Georgia.

When I was like 8 or 9, the first few times I rode LNM, I blacked out from the first loop to the helix. Also on Demon at SFGAM after the second corkscrew, I never remeber the helix at the end. Maybe some other Arrow coasters, like Shockwave, but only Arrow looopers, no other rides have I blacked out on.

Its happenned quite a lot, actually. First time was on The Chiller: Robin. That was due to sheer head banging. I almost always black out going through Millennium Force's first big turn. Also, usually one eye will go black on Goliath's helix, but never both. Sometimes, if I go to a smaller park with pretty much no crowd, I will ride a ride over and over and eventually start to black-out. Both times I went to Holiday World on the last day, the ride ops would just let the train roll right through the station and if you wanted off you had to wave your hands. Needless to say, I rode a lot without a break and started to black out.

When I was a little kid and rode corkscrew for the first time I blacked out. I could hardly walk after either.
Anymore, no, it really doesn't happen. I've done the leaning back on MF's first hill and got a little grey around the edges, but my consciousness pretty much holds on no matter what (if you've ever gone drinking with me you'd know this is a fact in ALL situations).

What do you mean? Just leaning back and kinda trying to stand up while going down the hill? Because my friends and I do that everytime, I didnt know it caused some people to have problems.

The only ride that really makes me black out is Goliath, primarily in the infamous helix. However, SD2K comes pretty close. Some rides like Millennium Force will cause my vision to go a little gray.

I sortof Grey-out on some of the larger loopers and possibly a couple other coasters, but it's mostly just a little bit.

Another vote for the infamous Goliath helix. While not quite a blackout, it was certainly a gray-out (tunnel vision, and a bit dim at that). It had my sister feeling pretty awful when she rode it with me.

I do all the time. It must be a physical problem, and it's kinda annoying after a while. Sometimes only vision goes out with all other senses working, and other times, I completely don't remember the entire element. Totally weird feeling. The only time I've had a more extreme "blackout" was on Goliath. I blacked out to the point where, obviously, no senses were working, and I "woke up" in a completely different part of the ride. It happens way to often to me for it to be normal. Guess I better have that checked, ha!

I had a black out in Batman: La Fuga (Warner Bros. Movie World Madrid) all times I've ride it!

If it's warm and Goliath (SixFlags Holland) is bit faster then normal I get a grey out most of the times at the end of the 'turn around'... :)

Supposedly if you lean your head back on MF's first hill (or a few other coasters) you can get a little bit of grey in your vision. I do *not* try to stand up, thanks very much. My thighs get pinched by those restraints enough as it is, besides, that's not very safe.

I always experience a slight black out on MF just after the crest of the 2nd hill (by where that support is notched).

GASM at SFGADV...the transition from loop 2 to loop 3 http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery34.htm?Picture=5 gets me every time. Supposedly Shockwave at SFOT is famous for its blackout point between the loops http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery28.htm?Picture=2 .

I have never black out on a roller coaster and I hope I never have a black out because it would be very scary.

I'm being serious here and some of you may think Im dumb for saying this but why do people black out on a rollercoaster???

I've only been to wonderland and I don't think it's possible to black out on those rides....

But do people black out because they are so scared??? or is it because the ride is too intense in some areas????

I wanna ride the goliath now, it sounds pretty intense....

No, it's because the positive g-forces may be too much, or because there istoo much banging your head on the OTSRs.

I've never blacked out due to anything, let alone on a coaster. What's it like?

For me, its just like having your eyes closed. I can still think, smell, feel and all that other jazz, its just that I go blind for a few seconds. The experience may vary from person to person but thats what its like for me.

I probubly should have worded that a bit differently. Basicly all it is is elevating your mid section as far out of your seat as your restraint will alow while cresting the drop. Its kinda hard to describe, the drop is much more intense though. (please note, this is also assuming you have your hands up..but why the hell would you hang on?)

strangly enough - i blacked out in line for Top Gun - I was fine on the ride though

I have also blacked out in line at Wendy's

i can probably blame those on dehydration though

The only black out I had was goming out of the third loop of GASM and into the MCBR. I slammed my head into the restraint and it went black. Then I look across the park at Nitro and saw it moving and snapping back into place. Not good. The headache afterwards was horrible too. :(

The only coaster I've almost blacked-out on is Face/Off sitting backwards through the first run.

Something about going backwards through that first inversion always bothers me and one of my friends too. But sitting forwards doesn't do anything.

About the scariest thing I ever saw on a coaster was, we were at SFOG and one of the girls in our group had vertigo, well she decided to try Batman. She blacked out somewhere after the first loop, and her head was flopping back and forth. Scared us to death. She woke up about 10 seconds later, but she didn't ride another coaster the whole day.

And the last time I was at Cedar Point, I got really dehydradated without realizing it, and had to sit down for about 30min after riding some coaster and get some fluids back in me. It was a breezy day, and I guess I didn't realize I had been sweating so much because the breeze kept my skin dry all day.

The only time I've actually came close to blacking out was go backwards on Invertigo...I've never blacked out on a coaster and I just felt kinda woozy like when you get dehydrated and I started seeing black dots everywhere lol. I didn't completely black out, but I didn't feel very good getting off the ride.
