| And you thought Xclerator had cool cars...
Look at this coaster car at the bottom This coaster is now defunt but it sure has the best looking cars on any wood coaster. They kind of remind me of xcelerators cars. That coaster train and one just like used to be on ThunderRoad at Carowinds. one train was like "the bad guy" and the otuer was named like "police" and they raced.. but they were used from a different park before carowinds had them. i think they came from Ohio or some midwest park.. maybe reiverview? well i knew it was from carowinds.. and i found the photo :D http://members.aol.com/k9660r/thunder2.html Last edited by sfne stinks; 10-02-2004 at 12:31 PM. Actually, these are the old Riverview Park (defunct) Jetstream trains that Carowinds bought for Thunder Road in 1976. They lasted only about 4 seasons and the park scrapped them and bought 4 PTC's. The captian for the above photo is at: http://members.aol.com/k9660r/thunder1.html |

Ah yes, the old Thunder Road trains. Those were very cool. Actually, now, it wouldn't matter if those were still on. The line for the rides aren't that long anymore. But there is something that I've always wondered about. THe old trains hold 32 people. The new ones only hold 24. How do the new trains (or at one time new) have a better capacity?

I believe that there were only one each of the two trains, so they had to complete an entire cycle, unload, and reload before more guests could ride. Now they have two trains on each side, so that one train can be loading/unloading while the other is out enjoying the course of the ride.

Those trains do look very Roller Coaster Tycoonish. They look really awesome. I have never seen any train like that on a wooden coaster.

Oh what a great shot. I have not seen that pic in years. You know there was/is a rumor going around saying that the park is bringing back the trains for the Coasters 30th anniversary but i don't believe it.

/\That would be nice! :) Oh, so there was only one train per side? That's crazy. What is the need for that long brake run of there was originally only going to be one train per side? Whatever, just bring them back with two on each side, and this time, keep them!!

Well the rumor was that they were just going to remake the trains for the 30th and that year only. After thet then they would display them at the New TR entrance. TR new entrance will be made whevere CF gets it's makeover. Again this is just a crazy romor but a very good one. I myself hops this happens.

Here is a photo postcard of the Thunder Road trains before they added the car themed fronts. When the coaster opened in 1976 they ran with the V-shaped front-ends like they did when it ran in Chicago . Then they changed it to the headlighted car fronts (the headlights did not light, btw) in 1977. The funny thing is that Thunder Road kept shaking the fronts loose so they eventually replaced them back with the original V fronts.

I didn't know that either. It looks better now. And those car trains are pretty nice, I want to see more coasters with those.

Wow, those V-shaped trains are crazy looking. For some reason, it looks like it would go on a wooden coaster in Europe. Crazy! Yes, Thunder Road was white, Carowinds got lazy though and let it all rot away and now it looks just like a normal wooden coaster.

TR was white until about 5 or so years ago when they just said enough painting it and they went through and sanded all the white paint off. Those trains i have never seen before but i like the ones after that better. I guess they could bring back all of them since they have 4 trains. Now that would be cool.

^Agreed. I think that would be nice if they did that and distinguished the coaster from other wooden coasters.

The first picure of Camden Park isn't that rare or unique. They do look cool though. Other parks, like Kennywood, have those trains too. By the way, is this the comet coaster at the park with the 'train' looking trains?

Nice fine BK2004. You can tell with out a doubt that the cars look like a train. I wonder how old the picture is?
