Sunday night, driving on Rt. 95 in Center City Philadelphia I saw my first Kingda Ka Six Flags Great Adventure billboard for the year. It was the one about 200ft up on the Ben Franklin Bridge that also faces 95 South. It was a yellow billboard with Kingda Ka and the words "Kingda Ka is here." Under those words I thought I saw a white rectangle. I thought some taggers got to it and the billboard people covered it up. Later on I looked at the billboard with the car in park and realized it was just a sun in the ad. Who would have risked their life to climb 200ft to tag the sign anyway? ha.

Actually, I saw two on the way to Great Adventure, both one after another. Also on I-95.

It's really sad to think about how the ride is not even open but the money spent on those billboard advertisements is basically wasted.

Another coaster in the Philly/South Jersey area had the same karma last year: Tsunami -the S&S Power wooden coaster @ Clementon Park. There was many billboards in the area but no ride, well not until mid September.

So judging by those pictures (grate pictures by the way, thanks) Kingda Ka is finally under going repairs? So I am guessing that the whole grand reopening thing is going to be a big deal or not really?

Also just too clear things up. They have to replace all (some?) of the trims/breaks on the coaster correct?

Thanks,

I had some quick talk at work today with a steel worker that I've known worked on erecting S:UF and CHILLER in the past. Apparently he was @ SFGADV recently. Quite a bit had to be replaced on that launch track. We only had time to be vague, not able to detail. Nothing more than what we already know.

I'm kind of glad we've cooled down here. :)

Intamin wooden coasters are made pre-fab. 90% of the ride will be made in a warehouse and shipped in pieces. Everything from the structure to the track is pre-fabbed so dont expect a big construction site like any other wooden coaster.

They are working on it (literally) day and night. Hopefully it will re-open by the end of July, but no one knows for sure...:(

Yes, I know...
Everything is basically done. The next step is testing, which shouldn't be to long.

I liked how the park got straight to the chase about the ride on the park's home page. Signed by the GM. Good.

That very same letter is in the window of every single ticket booth so you can read it before purchasing your ticket. They have handeled this situation very well IMO.

Blueberry Muffin is the dark blue train. During the commercial shoot, the ride ops named the trains and had us play the name game. The train names are as follows:

Dark blue: Blueberry Muffin
Teal: CP Beat It
Green: Gak
Orange: Schoolbus Badunkadunk

Schoolbus is awesome, that's the party train.:D

I just found out on www.thrillnerds.com that KK won't open for the rest of the year. Not sure how much of it is true but it wouldn't surprise me with all of the problems those big rocket coasters were having.

Those names again. I'd thought they'd disappear.

I'll just say this about that:

Does a coaster that had track powerwashed this week, a train that was damaged reappear within the last two days, have the 200 and 400 foot strobes that have been off since the day of the breakdown, and has had it's launch horn sound multiple times today sound like a ride that will be closed for the rest of this season? That rumor smells like bullcrap to me.
