Coaster Commercials

Does anybody know how to get on a roller coaster commercial? I'd love to get in one, I love coasters and I'd love to be on TV.

You can get really lucky like some people, or join ACE. They go to enthusiast groups to look for riders since we give better reactions, last longer, and enjoy the labor that is riding a coaster all day.

If your whole dream is to be in a coaster commercial, then there are two ways that you might have a chance. One is to join the coaster club that is the most active in your area. It may be ACE. Down here in FL, it's the Florida Coaster Club. They sometimes get called to fill the ride for film shoots.

Another possibility is to get a job working at the park. Park employees are also sometimes used.

But realize that in truth your chances aren't all that good. It's not unusual for them to hire out actors or use executives family members, or other such things.

Another thing is that if you get in the commercial, you're really not visible at all unless you're hero/glamour casted. And the hero/glamour cast are usually actors, so there goes your shot in most cases. In Kingda Ka's commercial, all I see of my girlfriend and I are a blue t-shirt and a white t-shirt with bodies in them. I happened to have a picture of her standing outside of the green train right before the helicoptor shots, so we were actually able to know when to look for ourselves. If it wasn't for that, I doubt we would have ever spotted ourselves.

I have been in several commercial shoots, TV shows for the Discovery and Learning Channels, Music Videos, and publicity stunts. As mentioned above its about being in clubs that are asked to get involved with the filmings. I would think if you are looking to be in a TV commercial you would need to have contacts with film companies. One of the reasons the Florida Coaster Club has been invited alot is because several of the members are involved with various filming and other news or production services. The Florida Coaster Club has been in alot of stuff. Its just the luck of being at the right place right time and membership has its preveldges. You can look through my events section of my website for photos from various filmings http://www.johnnyupsidedown.com/events.html .
And for a listing of all the stuff that the Florida Coaster Club has been involved with go here http://floridacoasterclub.com/mediaappearances.htm
Anyway its fun when you know you were in a filming all though as mentioned above you only get a quick glimpse of yourself if that.

I ahve been in a dozen or so as well but as stated above it's unlikely you would see yourself unless you do a coaster show.

I did a show in the Discovery Channel last year which was alot of fun. It was about Coasterphobics and the even used the onride shot of me and my coasterphobic friend on the front page of the newspaper a few days later.

The only actual call for park shoots that I've heard is PKI.

Being with ACE gives you a better chance. Commercials are so split second with moving vehicles - really why bother? I'm not dissing us coaster enthusiasts from trying but don't expect to make some long demo tape. Like the case of Rj, you're most likely going to see a blue blip of yourself. One second blip - "Hey, that's me!" The freeze frame will probably make you look like a blurry ghost.

...I can't think of a coaster commercial that is shown over here which has random people in it. Only actors. Our ad's are all very much about the theme of the ride, as are the rides themselves i guess, and so the commercials themselves are focues on actors in situations themed to the rides.

The only one i can think of that wasn't was Rita's add, but Rita lacks a theme anywho. And still, the person in that add was still an actor and very little of the footage was real coaster footage.

The funny thing with Ka's commercial was that neither of us saw ourselves until we actually were watching TV together.

We went to DP, and when I dropped her off at her apartment I got sick. When her mom and my dad agreed that I should just sleep there and come back home early in the morning, rather than drive 30 minutes down the NJ Parkway at like 3 in the morning sick, we started watching TV and talking about the shoot again. Then the commercial came on again and as we're watching it we both say in unison, "I can't believe we rode that thing 60 times and don't even see-
THAT'S US!"

Yeah, we both got to see ourselves on TV together for the first time:heart:, and it was when we were whining about not seeing ourselves.
