2006 Battle of the Goliaths!!

Which Goliath do you think will be better between SFOG and La Ronde. Let's see:

Both are B & M Hypers.
Both aren't clones of other rides.
They have almost the same drop (SFOG 175 feet LR 171 FEET)
They have almost the same speed (SFOG 70 MPH LR 68 MPH)
La Ronde's has 10 drops to SFOG's 7.
Both coasters will extend out of the park and back.

Time to choose which one you think will be better and please leave a few words explaining your choice!

Of the two, the SFOG Goliath looks better to me, because it has added elements such as the overbanked turn and the helix. Both look like solid coasters, though and I think they will be good additions to both parks. I don't know when I will get the chance to ride the La Ronde Goliath but I look forward to riding the SFOG one next year.

I have to go with Goliath at SFoG. That spiral drain helix at the turnaround of the outback is something I'm been waiting to see ever since the first time I experienced Nitro's helix. The real kicker I think is going to be that second drop and how they bank it to make the turn at the bottom of the hills, rather than at the top of one.

I vote for MY Goliath.

All kidding (and homepark bias) aside, I had to vote for the Goliath being built in Georgia. While out and back and airtime match well, I like a little bit of spice to a layout as well. The Georgia one will have a better shot of doing that for me with the cool choice in setting (towering over everything, diving near the entrance, outside the park, over reflecting lakes...) as well as some sweet looking elements such as the helix and the "horseshoe" turnaround. The LaRonde version seems so "ordinary" to me, nothing really stands out, though I think it will still be a good ride.

I'm more into the added elements of SFoG's Goliath.

I voted Canada's because it not only is going to provide airtime, but TONS of head choppers!

^ Now how do you know all that considering that:

A) it has not been built yet
B) we have yet to see a video of this thing

I'm going with Goliath at SFoG. The helix on it just looks AWESOME!!!! Plus I'll actually get to ride it next year ;) But I hope to 1 day to be able to ride the Goliath at La Ronde.

While my vote may be a bit premature, I'm going with SFOG - only because of the awesome location.

Hmm. Good question. I really need to see more pictures and maybe of video of LR's Goliath before I can make a fair judgement. Right now I would have to go with SFOG's because of the helix, overbanks, and turning drop. They both like they will be awesome though.

I went with LaRonde's Goliath because of the insane looking airtime, and the location of the coaster...right along the river, well pretty much inbetween the river and lake(in the centre of the park):)

La Ronde's will be better because of one word, AIRTIME. SFOG's Goliath will have airtime, but not as much. La Ronde's looks to have about the same amount of airtime and layout as Apollo's Chariot, and airtime is what make's Apollo's Chariot a top 10 coaster. Plus I'd rather have a straight drop than a turning drop because it will deliever more airtime.
SFOG's Goliath will have airtime, but not as much.
We don't know that for sure.
...and airtime is what make's Apollo's Chariot a top 10 coaster.
Nah, really? I thought it was the big chair.
Plus I'd rather have a straight drop than a turning drop because it will deliever more airtime.
Again, not really (the s-hills on the SROSs seem to have nice air), and better yet, SFOG's goliath only has one drop that even hints of anything but a strait drop, that being the second one (and its barely much of a change in direction)

Where do you see a "turning drop" as you called it

Like CeDaRPoInTzTeR said, the turns are at the bottom of the hills, except of course the overbank ;)

So basically, yea, you're talking out of your ass again. At least I try to have stuff that backs my statements up :)

edit: Montu Man beat me to the point.

I gotta go with Goliath North, defend the coaster in my region. I think the traditional out and back design will help keep up speed and deliver that luscious B&M flojector air on every hill. Y'all southerners can keep your Goliath and Deja Defective, War Goliath North!!!

And CeDaRPoInTzTeR doesn't know jack squat, I hear he cheated on this decent girl Ashley Abrams, who doesn't wear so much make up that she look like the batter b**ch at IHOP, with some second chance at Cedar Point. And she found out and cried, asked him Why? oh Why?, and CPzter just Five Fingaz to the Faced and said Lookamah Camaro when I talk t'ya!!! And then he just lit up a Newport and stood there, and one of her arms is suddenly longer than the other.

I really don't understand where this thread is going. You guys are tearing back and forth arguing which one is better when both rides aren't even structurally completed yet. And what do you get out of it? Nothing. Nobody's changing anybody else's opinion. So what's the point? Both rides will be good, they have similarities in their layouts (all of which are good ones), and there are some subtle differences - which only means more variety for those that choose to travel and coast. There. I said it.

Looking through the posts I don't see any "tearing back and forth". Pretty much everyone has shared their opinions and a few of us replied to the statements of others. Montu Man and I basically corrected (a) mistaken assumption(s) of VekomahangNbang and Ta2KX picked on his buddy and that's it. I didn't read anyone say anything along the lines of "how could you not pick {parkName}'s Goliath?" or "you need to change your vote to the one at [parkName]". I don't think anyone is trying to change anyone's opinion, and you had to know this thread was coming at one point in time. It's all good :)

I'll even say C'est tout bien to show appreciation to the Canadians ;)

Who interviewed each Goliath to come to the conclusion they were going to battle one another? Maybe they'll compliment each other, get along. LOL. I just expect different experiences from both new B&M Goliaths. Variances are welcomed! It's better than hearing enthusiasts complain if they were complete clones of each other.

/\ Neither. They are lovers.

That is exactly how I see it! In the coastering world, a good coaster cloned is acceptable to me, a bad coaster cloned is a bad thing, and a completely different ride experience is all the better. Variety is the spice of life.

In terms of ride time,in my opinion,I would have to decide that LaRonde's version is better, though,I picked SFOG's version because I won't be going to Canada until 2 years from now.

No one said we had to give a definite answer in the poll. I refuse to vote on either one. Just for pure travel over the street out of the park Goliath @ SFOG looks really attractive but I'm not going to sell Goliath @ La Ronde out like that. I'm going to believe that La Ronde's ride is going to have some real kick to it.
