Eh, they're okay.

I have never been on one, but it just seems to be too short of a ride, Sheikra was a little bit more than a one trick pony but I see the design improving as a coaster.

I understan there's only 3 dive machines in the world right?

Does that mean only 3 vertical dive coasters or just B&M vertical dive Coasters?

Because i've ridden Tower of Terror at Gold Reef City and vertical coasters rock!! ...just a bit short though...

Just 3 B&M dive machines...you pretty much answered your own question by stating that Tower of Terror is also a vertical dive coaster, just not B&M.
examples of vertical coasters:
Tower of Terror at Gold Reef City
TTD, KingdaKa, Storm Runner, Xcelerator
GravityMax

B&M dive machines are quite unique in my opinion. There are only 3 in the world. I will get the oppurtunity to ride SheiKra next month, and I can't wait. It is the only dive machine with more then just that 90* drop. The Immelman and 2nd drop make SheiKra so much more unique.

The other coasters are Intamin launchers. They are not considered diving coasters. With exception of Tower of Terror. That was built in house and does have a 90* max angle and pulls 6.3 G's (OMG) Here is the link for ToT in South Africa: http://www.rcdb.com/id1481.htm

Those Euro Fighters could also be considered diving coasters because they dive on the first drop.

It is one of the most feared coasters in the Eames household - scares the bits and bobs out of me every single time I ride. Only ever been on Oblivion, but should be going on Sheikra in May.

The only one I've ridden is Oblivion, which is an excellent ride, although a little short. It's certainly a very unique experience, and you're right, the sensation of hanging over that drop is great.

I meant any coaster that literrally "hangs" at the top. Not lanched coasters! in a way they don't count...

I'd count the Vekoma Cliffhangers, they DO hang over the edge just like a dive machine, if not more so than one.

I've ridden Oblivion and it's an amazing ride. Hanging over the top is terrifying and seems to last forever!

Dropping into the tunnel is a fantastic experience; the ride doesn't need to be longer. It packs a quick punch. Any longer and the intensity might be ruined.

Why are you even posting in this thread then. How can you say that if you actually haven't experienced it. Sure by looks, it doesn't seem like fun but looks and actually feeling the ride are different things. Use some common sense please!

^ Do you mean "the whole train (5 or so Vekoma cars)"? ;)

Dive Machines are fun, but very short.

I've ridden Oblivion, and I must say that the underground drop (especially with the 2nd chain lift portion lowering you nearly facedown) is one of the most intense drops on a coaster that I've experienced.

The overbank and hill up are terrible though, which made Oblivion way too hyped up for me (I waited 3+ hours for it the first time, the last 4 I stayed on until the park closed).

For the guy that didnt know about the Tilt Coaster.

Yes all the SIX cars are 90 degrees vertical. I cant believe you didnt hear about this thing!!! The train goes on a piece of track, and the track tilts 90 degrees and attaches to a piece of track below and lets the train go!!!!

She meant that the ride has more to it than just a 90 degree drop. You should read when she went on to say it had a second drop and an immelman. She wasn't talking about how steep the drop was compared to the another dive machines.

Uh, everyone knew about the tilt coaster here. There was no question about it. I was merely correcting your mistake.

Yeah, the Tilt Coaster/Thrill-Lift is Gravity Max, but since it is made by Vekoma, it probably sucks after the drop.

Oh and btw, SheiKra's drop is not exactly 90*, it's more in the region of 89.5* to 89.7* to prevent hunting.

Falso! SheiKra actually does not execute a complete 90 degree drop anywhere on the ride. It's just as steep as G5 and Oblivion, if not by half a degree, which would only be around 87.5 to 88. Busch probably figured that since it was only short two or three degrees, people wouldn't notice that it wasn't really a complete 90, cause to an untrained eye it definitely looks like it.

Uh oh, here we go again.

SheiKra *does* have a 90 degree first drop. It's 2nd drop however is 87 degrees.

I say this based on 3 hard hat tours, numerous meetings with park executives and ride designers, and access to view blueprints during construction.

It can't be exactly 90 degrees. That would mean the car would fall freely down to the pullout which it would slam into. There would be nothing keeping the wheels right on the rails unless the upstop wheels fit that tightly. I'm pretty sure a complete 90 degree drop would be painful at the pullout. Even an 89.9 degree drop would be much better because gravity is still pushing it against rails.

No, I know we already had this discussion, but I spoke to B&M recently at their booth (IAAPA 2005), and they said SheiKra's drop is not exactly 90 degrees, due to the fact that they do not want the trains to hunt.

88.9 degrees-Maybe.
90 degrees- Sorry, but no.

Really though, it doesn't matter either way, it's still a fantastic ride.

i still think the most intense ride (which is my favourite and i've ridden almost 54 times!) is Tower of Terror! The basic reason... 6.3 g's!!

It feels like your head is still aa the beginning of the track! My sister's nose was bleeding after she rode it!! lol!! I've rode it the 54 when they still have lab-bar restraints but its currently closed becuase they're putting OTSR's on (BOO!!!)
