Has anyone heard anything about any new roller coasters going in anywhere next year.
So far I've heard rumors that PKI is going to get a flying coaster.

I doubt PKI will get a flying coaster the six flags park near by had just added vekoma model and with the B&M model debuting at alton in 2002 and alton have the rights until 2004/5 i carn't see a flying coaster their next year. But i have heard they are trying to turn the park into more of a universal style park with rides based on movies and a maga new dark ride based on the new tomb raider movie!

Remember I said this everybody....Although I do not know exactly what type of ride PKI is getting, it WILL be themed to the movie "Titanic." I will post more as I find it out. (I have an inside source, not the dippin' dots guy....)

*Coasterfreak*Coasterfreak*, I think we're talking about 2002.

Anyway, it's almost a sure bet that CP will get something, although I'm not sure what. They just spent $50 mil on that huge hotel complex, so it's tough to believe that they could afford another record breaking coaster. There's also no reason to think that they'd want to, since MF is still the tallest complete circuit coaster in the US, and there's no point in breaking their own record. The most practical thing to add would be some sort of shuttle loop, since they are cheap and compact, but Cedar Fair seems to be against Shuttle Loops; the only one in the chain is Montezooma's Revenge.

SFMM will also probably be getting something, although it's hard to tell what. After they added 2 hypers and 1 near-hyper over a two year span, I'd expect something on the smaller side--maybe a wild mouse or small CCI.

SFNE is expected to get a major coaster next year. They were going to be getting a B&M Stand Up this year, but the money to purchase that went towards buying Sea World Ohio instead. Current rumors are pointing towards a B&M Floorless, Flying Dutchman, or CCI. Since Medusa is only 150 miles away, and the park already has two quality woodies, I'm predicting a Flying Dutchman.

It sounds right that PKI will try to become more like Universal Studios. In terms of roller coasters, I don't think Paramount can keep up with Cedar Point, arguably the best in the world, and SFWOA, which is one of the best parks in the Six Flags chain. Ohio has lots of amusement parks, but no theme parks, so it'd be interesting to see Paramount try to become a pioneer.

I've heard that PGA will be getting a big coaster, possibly a Thrust Air. This sounds plausible, although I don't know how much space they have left.

Knott's Berry Farm is also supposed to be getting a hyper or giga for 2002 (I think so, anyway. It might be 2003.) It seems that they're considering the largest Intamin Impulse to date, over 300 feet high. I'm not sure if I believe this, but Knott's is due for a big coaster, and they need something to replace Windjammer.

Thorpe Park is getting Atlantis, of course, and Alton Towers is getting the B&M Flying Coaster, but other than that I don't think anything is confirmed. Over the summer and fall, there should be more announcements on new installations for next year. (I'm hoping for something new at Canobie Lake, but those pesky residents keep complaining about "unsightly" coasters and "noise." Personally, I can't think of anything more beautiful than a towering hyper coaster and screams echoing for miles, although apparently some people disagree.)

SFAW is finally supposed to get something in 2002. I am betting on the CCI woodie that was cancelled last year or a inverted coaster of some type. (Deja Vu or Vertical Velocity.)

It is almost a sure bet that Enchanted Village in Federal Way, WA will get a new coaster. The most probable will be a CCI woodie, and that's what I'm really hoping for. This would give the northwest 5 good woodies:

1) Tremors
2) Timber Terror
3) Coaster (Puyallup Fair)
4) Coaster (PNE Playland)
5) Enchanted Village Woodie

My big concern is that they will go with a Boomerang and/or a Vekoma SLC. These are alright, but they are everywhere. I want something original.

PKD is getting absolutly nothing next year. Hypersonic XLC coast a good amount even though it is so short. It will keep crowds coming for a while. Don't forget it took three years after Volcano for them to get a new one.

SFGAdv. is and should get something...there are a lot of crowds this year and they need something to add to the park. There have been lots of rumors about a flying coaster and a Deja Vu going around, but if that crash w/ Deja Vu is true, I don't know...I guess we'll have to wait and see!

I'll do the So Cal roundup...

...Knott's new Hyper probably wont come until 2003 or 2004...

...Magic Mountain should be getting that long rumored 3rd Woodie...

...Disneyland and DCA will probably get nothing. Work may begin on Tower of Terror at DCA, but that wont be done until 2003...

...Legoland should get another kiddie thrill ride. Possibly a 4th coaster (maybe a lego Mine Train?)...

...Sea World and Universal will get nothing again and raise ticket prices again...

Carowinds might get a hypercoaster for 2002. All we know is that some major expansion is happening next year... I believe in the "Thrill Zone" area of the park.

SFOT is supposed to be getting only the flat rides in 2002 that were cancelled this year due to budget costs. Then, in 2003 I am expecting an Acrophobia or a water coaster. Porbably something with water. It gets really hot down here in the summers.

Well I'm glad you guys could help me out. LOL. Most of you just argued about PKD. Honestly I dont care what goes in at PKD CP or any other park or what kind of themne the ride might have. ANd the thing about the Titanic theme might be true, but as far as I can tell, it probably wont be, and no my source is not the Dippin' Dots guy. (Sorry I liked the thought) Please if u have info abouyt what they might put in please tell me. The newest rumor is that it is going to be the worlds longest steel.

A ll I know is that I'll be really mad if SFAW gets nothing again next year and SFOT continues with their 40th anniversary celebration. Our money always goes to the other two parks in Twxas, and that makes me mad.

I don't think PKD will get anything new next year although they could use a good Beemer. We all know what Anheiser-Busch (sp?) said about Busch parks, so don't expect anything in that area, CP is going to do something to get their record back (Wild Mouse and maybe Flying or Floorless, and possibly a kiddy/junior i.e. Minium Force) and SFMM might do something to keep their record (though I seriously doubt that, since 4 coasters in 2 years is a lot of $$)

Although 4 coasters is a lot of $$$, SFMM will not sit back and do nothing after working so hard to snath the title. they'll probably add a wild mouse or a small woodie. Pga will most likely get a coaster after losing the TA2K to PKD.

i think that knotts should get a coaster seeing as expansions at rival parks are done. And its been 3 years since the last coaster. Also i think a lot of parks are not going to get new coaster for possibly 4 or five years. it seems that the most costly projects were saved for last. And then it will be a "coaster recession" few parks should get new ones

Valleyfair is supposed to be getting an inverted. I hope so. The only inversions in the state are the 3 on the Corkscrew clone.. which BTW is going to be 20 pretty soon. Also, this IS VF's year for expansion.. I just hope the Falcon rumors are true...

TexasTornado,

Don't worry! Astroworld will get something next year, and SFOT will not continue their 40th year celebration. All we're expecting up here is a couple of flat rides.

People actually care about SFAW. I feel so touched. lol. anywayz, i dont relly think Astroworld will get an inverted coaster because they already have Serial Thriller. AW might get a CCI (canceled for 2 years) I know we wont get a hyper or floorless. We probably wont get a launched coaster. I relly dont know what we'll get. I ust want something.
