After riding Nitro 20 times since its opening, I must say that I never get off the ride without a big smile on my face. I love watching other riders as they experience the first drop for the first time. I like hearing the comments of everyone as they get off of the ride. Here are a few of the most common positive ones:
1. The first drop was so steep all that was touching me was the lap bar.
2. It was so fast it made my eyes tear.
3. Let's go on it again.

Here are a few negatives:
1. If that had a loop,it would be "Da Bomb".
2. I thought it would feel faster.
3. Millennium force is taller than that one.

Since Nitro is located about 30 minutes from my home, I have some recommendations for possible future improvements...

1. Landscape the area beneath the coaster. It is currently all sand/mud, with large retaining fences at the bottoms of the hills. The coaster is so huge, you do not get as much of a sense of speed as you do on rides with tighter confines (Medusa). Some trees near the track would do wonders for the speed sensation. A tunnel would also add a tremendous thrill at the base of the first drop.
2. Better theming in the queue areas. Currently it is pretty barren. The uncovered cattle corrals will be unbearable in the summertime. A suggestion to increase the "Nitro" theme... hand out balloons filled with medical grade nitrous oxide at the entrance. This would also alleviate tensions over the long wait times. (JK)
3. More rideop pre-launch banter. The current "Enjoy your ride" is a little bland. How about "Prepare yourself for Nitro injection", or "Please refrain from holding your lap bar during the ride".

I just wanted to share my thoughts on an incredible ride. I would also like to hear any of your comments.

I cant wait to ride it, I will be up in a few weeks to do so. However, I must disagree with you on one point, by putting a loop into this giga/mega coaster, you would have to wear a harness, therefore it would take away the thrill of coming out of your seat. Therefore, no looooooop and therefore, you get the thrill of flying out of your seat and thrill of your life. So tell me, which do you prefer, a loop and a harness, or no loop and coming out your seat? Jeff

i definlty think it needs theming of some type. it would be neat if they plant some TALL trees so the track goes throught the woods a little bit. as for theming, take those cool electric tubes from chiller and move or add them to nitro, that would be cool. they could also add barrels with green liquid inside. i think just a little bit of theming could help the line go much faster. i also think they need to add those things that spray mist

I definitely prefer the lap bar with no loops. I love just being held in by my thighs as I scream down the first camelback, fully out of my seat.

As far as the fog/mist goes... The chiller actually had that for every launch, except park management turned it off after they found out how much fog spray they went through in a day.

Yeah, queue theming would be nice: You currently get a great view of Batman's ugly industrial-style loading station. Put some trees there or something.
Another suggestion: turn down the block brakes, or better yet, get rid of them! They completely ruin the last 3 or 4 hills (at least in the back you get almost no airtime; I never sat closer to the front than the 7th row)...

It's a great ride, but the brakes definitely ruin the final set of hills. It seems like the ride is over when you hit the breaks. I rode it twice and both times couldn't get my arms back up after the brakes cause it just wasn't worth it. The brakes take the whole pace out of the ride. That's the only thing I can find wrong with it. SROS at SFNE doesn't let up until you hit the final brakes.

Nitro definitely could benefit from some theming. Even more important than theming, in my opinion would be some shade for the queue line, aside from the little shack undernieth the departing side of the station, you sit there and bake in the sun, and the Summer hasn't even kicked in full force yet.

[ This Message was edited by: DrachenFire96 on 2001-06-04 18:50 ]

Nitro is just amazing. It can use some theming. If you can..you MUST ride the front seat-you are looking strait down on the hill waiting for the back of the train to come over. I think it beats the other hyper's because of the sideless seating. Whatever people say-do not add a loop! It would take away from the hyper-feeling.

Nitro is an awesome ride. MF is my favorite, followed by Nitro on my list. I have ridden Nitro about 12 times, once in the front, several times in the back, and a few times in the middle. The front and back are both awesome. The front gives this really great view, and the back gets you loads of airtime, especially on the first drop. I think this really helps Great Adventure become a really good park.
