Launched Coasters

Can the speed of a launch, like on Hulk, FOF, or on a TA2K, be controlled? What I mean is, can the speed be increased or decreased?

On HS XLC I know it can cause I know that it has a roll back program and it weights the trains so the train will allways reach the same speed. On hulk I'm shure the speed can increase cause all of the train is on the hill before before it is launched. So all that they would have to do on hulk is to have the wheels spining as fast as they could as soon as the first car reaches the wheels. FoF I have no idea.

coasters with LIMs probably not because all they do is turn on the magnets so they cant controll how fast it goes.

Well, in HYPERSONIC's case, it can. When hypersonic trains roll out of the station, they stop for a minute. Youll notice they just sit there for a few seconds, that piece of the track is a weigh station. That track actually weighs how heavy the train is and adjusts the amount of air be used to propell it accordingly.

I'm pretty sure Superman:the Escape can be controlled. It used to (almost) all the way up the 400 ft. tower but, then they toned it down and it dosen't go as high.

Superman: the Escape was never toned down!!! Where did you get that idea. Actually, the height Superman goes is dependent on various things. The ride launches faster in colder weather and earlier in the morning. The later in the day, the slower the ride. Also, the number of people have a major impact on how high the coaster goes. The fewer the people, the higher the ride goes.

I don't think that LIM's or LSM's could go faster or slower. They are created to go at a certain speed.

I would have to guess the range of speed can be teaked within a certain degree to insure optimal ride performance and safety, but I doubt there is a large range. The recent DISCOVERY special on HYPERSONIC XLC did a great job a showing the amount of computerization and automation that is needed on a modern coaster like HYPERSONIC XLC. I recommend any coaster fan look for it in re-runs.

Can't speed be controlled on all coasters (that are really high tech at least)? Hypersonic XLC's launch is CRAAAZY!!!

If that is the case how come the train on S:UE only reaches 70 MPH (I think) on it 3 trip through the station? it makes 6. I think that they can control when the magnets fire (that controls the speed) and if the couldn't S:UE would fly off the track.

I dont think if it is powerd by magnets you can control the speed. You can probably control the speed though if it is powered by air.

They use electro magnets and they can control the fireing of the magnets.

I think speeds CAN be controlled but it would be hard. Impulse's and Speed: THE RIDE are two (or 6) examples. both have a certain amount of magnets and are used to slow down or speed up a train.
