I'm guessing a steel looper that follows the terrain. Possibly somewhere in Ugland.

Hi,

Obviously you don't knwo but JohnWardley alton towers designer (designer of nemesis and oblivion) has confirmed what sw5 is at an ecc (european coaster club meatings)

Firstly the ride es located at the back of forbiddon valley and this is 100% as there are big signs all over the area telling guests about it. plus constructionis well underway with big trenches appearing and footers being poured.

The ride has been confirmed as a B&M flying coaster where you lye flat below the track looking down. The ride opens in march 2002. That is all thats known. But he also said this is a joint project between altona nd B&M (so the park will have a hold of the technology until 2004/5) and has been in deleopment sinse 1994 and wa splanned for 1998 but wasn't ready so they built oblivion instead.

visit this ite for more info and construction pics-

Don't pass up that website previously mentioned. It's excellent, and SW5 is shaping up to be one seriously awesome coaster.

Is it just me or are there others that are really quite underwhelmed by this all..it seems like SW5 is going to much shorter than nemesis (already a very short ride) and only a little bit longer than oblivion....a ride let down imo by its lack of length...it could have been amazing. I must say that i am really disappointed by the layout i've see...i just hope that im not so disappionted come march next year!!

do you enjoy nemesis made be JW/B&M ? Yes
do you enjoy oblivion made also by JW/B&M ? Yes again, will you enjoy SW5 made by JW/B&M ? answer will be Yes! These people are known for producing the UK's best rollercoasters, oblivion is so short but still rated as one of the best, dont judge a ride until you have riden it, you dont even know the worlds first element, which could even be some thing as bizzare as spinning seats which would make the ride totally unexpected. Just keep an open mind and dont be so sure that it'll be a dissapointment

Actually you carn't tell the length of the ride from an over head veiw that well and anway the site is huge and it is way longer than oblivion.

It is fact that the ride is equal if not a bit longer than NEMESIS

Shorted coasters a better as their are no dead parts unlike man usa coasters where the second half after the breaks is boring.

Remeber alton carn't get big coasters cuz of all their restrictions but sw5 is the same length or a bit longer than nemesis.

no 90' drop, that is for sure, they would have to get rid of oblvion yet...but it going to be special, no doubt about that...what about the rumour of a launched exit from the station...that would be cool...and loud, so it might not be possible due to the restictions(that is why they can't have a wooden coaster-they are deemed too noisy!)

SW5 is a prototype of a B&M Prone Coaster (hope i spelled it right). I have seen some computerrederings, but they are quite disappointing. So don't expect to much!

Just remember people, any ride with a vertical loop technically has a 90' drop, if only for a split second.

It sounds a bit like the Vekoma Flying Dutchman coaster, but built by B & M. That coaster basically gives you the feeling you are flying. You sit in a chair, strap a special chest restraint on, and then pull back on the lap bar, and the train tilts backwards so you are laying down. After you get to the top of the lift, the track inverts so you are looking at the ground and the roller coaster goes normally from there, so the feeling is that like flight. What difference B & M's models will have over Vekomas (besides the fact one was designed in Holland while the other is designed in Swizerland) is beyond me. I hear that its supposed to have an element not seen before, but if you are talking about a cobra roll with a different name (because no flying coaster has a cobra roll yet) then it doesn't sound like anything new.

In any case I'd love to visit the UK parks someday. Pity that there are so many restrictions on Alton Towers that they can't go for it like they can at the Pleasure Beach. John Wardley writes on his website that he has submitted lots of ideas for rides, but many get rejected, and when Oblivion and Nemesis were being designed that he had hundreds of sketches and specs sent back between him and Walt Bolliger, so I take it, getting anything built there must be a real challenge.

Whether it turns out to be wonderful or a stinker, I'd love to give it a ride anyway.

Sw5 is different from stealth for a number of reasons any many we won't knwo until openning day

Firstly on sw5 you are not in a seated possition but fulley Lying down. Also you are in flying possition when going up the slop as look at wher ethe footers rae being placed in the fisrt tunnel at the top meaning the track must be like on an inverted coaster at that point, which probably means you baord below the track. Also as i live in stoke near alton in teh local paper when they received planning permission last ocober it said alton have received planning permission for their lattest world first multi million pound coaster that has been designed for thrill seakers and you ride below the track like on nemesis.

The length is about the same as nemesis acording to the plan taht was fubmitted to get planning permission.
