Coaster colors... a striking difference

I have noticed a trend.

Smaller parks seem to paint their new coasters very "earthy" colors: a brownish-red color similar to rust. In comparison, larger corporate parks paint their new coasters bright, eye-catching colors.

Take a look at some of these newer coasters, and you will notice a difference...

Compare those to the more "A list" national chain parks (Cedar Fair, Six Flags) which seem to think that the more colorful the better.

its because larger parks have more money for brighter colors and the other parks just want non-colorful paint for some reason. maybe thats not the reason lol

What? So are you saying that blue paint is more money then red paint? lol.

I think that it might be because parks like Dollywood, Bonafante Gardens, and SDC might have more of an "earthy" theme to the park, more natural themes. SF parks tend not to really theme, to just plop things down in a random fashion. I'm sure they don't care if their color scheme clashes with anything in the nearby area.

All paint is the same price, regardless of the color. That is assuming it is the same type of paint though.

I don't think there really is a reason why they have more generic colors maybe it is because small parks don't want to look flamboyant so they use unextragavant colors. Just a geuss

That'r pretty interesting. But usually most small parks don't have the record breakers so I guess they don't really need the flashy colors.

I never thought about that. I think that the smasller parks use the coaster colors to fit into the surrounding area better, instead of having it stick out. I think it is an atmosphere type thing.

Not necessarily true...Millennium Force's color scheme isn't that catchy. Although I must say that the ride doesn't need any paint to draw attention to it. The giant track structure itself does it all for the ride!

I've seen so much variety in a park that I think that it has more to do with the coaster itself and the manufacturer trend. It is a good observation though.

I think that coaster colors are probably intended to have something to do with their theme, and I also agree that some of the newer ones seem to be brighter in color, perhaps to attract attention to their "newness". However, some of the new coasters have colors tht dont make too much sense according to their names, ex:
Talon - orange track, and green cars with rainbows on them?
I dont know much about the reasoning behind the name talon, but it seems like it is something scarier than a rainbow! lol :)
