So I'm guessing the train that is going 100+ mph is the one where the guy says "It sounds like a jet". Am I right?

I love that sound. Now I *really* can't wait for Kingda Ka to open.

Because it's not designed to run 100. It's probably WAY too G heavy, and you probably have way, way too many -Gs on the tophat. I hear that it's pretty extreme at normal speed.

It's amazing that they can get it up to and over 100mph in such a short distance. I know that the length isn't that long for the launch. If it takes only 2.3 seconds to hit 82mph before it goes upward, how fast does it take to hit 100mph before it gets to the tower. I'd guess it would have to do it well under 2 seconds otherwise it would already get to the tower first before hitting 100mph+. Makes you wonder what Intamin can really do with their hydraulic launches if they want to or need to.

The actual speed attained during that one launch was 117 mph.

Uhhh. I can't believe you actually asked that question. The answer is so simple that I know for certain that you will get it if you only just stopped to think about it for a few seconds.

You probably haven't been on a Rocket Coaster. From the midway, Xcelerator's trains look like they are cresting the crown of the hill at a slow speed, but when you're on the ride, you can feel your entire body pulling up out of the seat. If they ran Xcelerator at 117 mph, trains would return to the loading platform with riders' bodies missing their upper-torsos.

Yeah, the forces that you fell when going over are insane. I've heard from many people that the airtime over the top hat is better than the air on any S:ROS. I wouldn't know, since i've never been on one, but I believe it.

Also, Montu Man, if they were to run it at 100, you would umm......die. Well, not really, but it would probably hurt pretty bad and maybe even cause harm to the trains.

I have heard that at normal speeds that the tophat pulls Gs of -1.5, so at 117...nuff said. Also you have to think about the stress that it puts on the track and the supports. The coaster simply is not made to run at that speed.

^ Exactly. The amount of stress put on the structure would be terrible. It would probably even do major damage to the wheels/trains.

It wouldn't damage the train, TTD uses the same type of train.

Speaking of TTD... Have they tried this same thing to Dragster? If Xcellerator could pull off 35mph extra, how much could Dragster?

Would they have tried it with Dragster? It would probably do 150. That's insane. We'll probably see that on the first 600 foot tall coaster in 2010.

Yeah, TTD goes 120 mph, but it doesn't pull - g's. It would probably put stress on the wheels and the parts that keep them connected with the train if they constantly launched it that fast.

What are you talking about? There are tons of negative G's on the top of the hill.

It is so weird how TTD seems like its never going to make it when you see it climb about half way up, and then it just crawls for the last quarter of the hill.

They happen frequently on TTD. Does SR or Xcelerator ever get rollbacks while people are there?

Ok, let me reprase that...

Watch the video of Xcelerator going over the top at 100 + mph. TTD doesn't go over the top nearly as fast as Xcelerator does in that video. Ok, so TTD probably pulls some - g's, but not as much as Xcelerator would if it was launched at over 100 mph.

I've ridden Top Thrill Dragster about 20 times, and I've gotten airtime on almost every ride. Sometimes it flies over the top at a ridiculous speed. If you're stapled in, your upper body wants to lift you up, but your legs won't move. It's a little painful.

A rollback on Top Thrill Dragster is much cooler than Superman. You're out of your seat on the way down, and the twist backward is really cool. Actually, rolling back on Top Thrill Dragster is cooler than the full ride!

I hope everyone's enjoying the video. I may take it down in a day or two.

I hope KK will get them, and I'm sure it will. Is there a way to purposely cause it? I know you aren't supposed to do it, but it would be cool to force it to happen. Especially if I brought my coaster noob friend aboard.

If you could cause a rollback, the train would probably never go over the top! It all depends on a lot of factors including weight distribution, wind, velocity and temperature.

Kingda Ka will get rollbacks. If you look at the train, it doesn't have the last row of seats like Top Thrill Dragster does. Instead it's an aerodynamic end that's similar to the front. That shows that the trains are designed to roll back. When Top Thrill Dragster first opens or it's cold, sometimes they won't put guests in the last two seats or the last car. It rolls back less often with less weight back there.
