Hayabusa - giant among the Arrow Suspended coasters

http://www.rcdb.com/ig1203.htm?picture=1

I was looking around the TN database and ran across this.

This thing is freaking huge!

It's almost twice as tall as a lot of the other suspended coasters.

Looks like someone in rcdb.com that just went crazy. lol

Yep, Hayabusa is the tallest and fastest suspended swinging coaster in the world. I believe it was also one of the last Arrow installations too. But I still feel that these types of coasters are best interwined low to the ground, through trees, and interacting with terrain. The best examples are Big Bad Wolf, Ninja (Magic Mountain), and Vortex (Canada Wonderland).

I always thought that Hayabusa looked like an awesome coaster, but really ugly. I think it would be so much better if it was themed/landscpaed like most of the other Suspended coasters.

Top Gun at PKI was actually the final suspended.

Kind of appropriate since the first one was the Bat and was installed at the same park.

I agree though that they work best low to the ground. I just wonder how rough this one is considering the speed and all.

^Well, BBW isn't rough, so that means not all of them are rough. I think it looks cool, probably really forceful.

Yeah I was surprised when I first rode BBW, even as it roars down and sweeps past the river it keeps it smooth.

Oh sorry...back to the point lol. Hayabusa looks awesome, imagine them changing the trains like at Chessington...sigh Japan, o my dear Japan, how I wish I could visit you.

Yeah, BIg Bad Wolf is great, and the scenery is awesome, and I especially like the drop over the water, imagine if there were no breaks on it?!?

I like this layout. There is quite a bit of steel in that first upward turnaround though.

i hope that S&S, now that they own Arrow, will install more coasters like this. maybe redesign the trains so it runs faster and smoother and develop some new ideas. BBW was absolutely amazing, of course my first time was in the rain so i didnt see anything. but that drop over the river was surprsing. it banked OVER 90 degrees. quite thrilling.

Suspended coasters I think are a lost cause. Why would anyone buy one when they could have one of the cheaper single rail models, or when they could have something with inversions? I know that there is still a market for parks that want an intense non-looper, but inversion oriented rides are so common these days.

The supports look really interesting on this picture. Look how thin they appear, and the use of several tension cables. I wonder how much the structure shakes. The supports surround the track in almost a box-like fashion. The lower half of the ride reminds me so much of XLR-8...

I would love to see a park go non-inversion and possibly create a great comeback if someone wanted to break the mold of common loopers.

That first drop and turn loops absolutely nuts. Other then that it doesn't look like theres a whole lot to the ride, though.

This thing looks sweet, but you're right, PANTSFREE, there doesn't seem to be much else after the first drop and turn.

Make sure it's not one of the Vekoma knockoff clones or something.

You're probably referring to Vampire at Chessington World of Adventure.
The ride opened in 1990, closed in 2000, and re-opened in 2002 with new trains.
You probably just read the info wrong, if search rcdb for Arrow Suspended, it shows 2002. click

So, yes, Top Gun was the last one installed.

Wonder if that first drop is braked like BBW? Can't tell much from the pics. There's definitely some extra dark parts on the track at the top, though.

It'd be neat to see a next-generation extreme suspended. Anyone have a link to the old Arrow prototype video of a suspended running through a corkscrew? Who knows, maybe coaster technology has advanced to where they could actually do that in production.
