Another Middle School Coaster Model

My dad found this video on AOL videos. It is kind of funny but the coaster is actually very big. 400 feet of track.

Looks sluggish and ugly to me. You think if they did it every year they would think up a new track or something...but then again if we did it at my school...well we wouldn't even dream of it with Kentucky's public school funding lol.

Well they raised money.

Quote:
The ride cost $5,000 to build. Students raised money by selling entertainment books and T-shirts, and businesses and individuals donated money and materials.
Anyone school could easily do this, only if they had the time and space.

Wow that thing is huge! Good idea...but how does the train stay on the track? Do they even have trains for it?

They go all out...painting it and everything. Take up the whole gym. I bet kids like painting for gym class instead of running a mile!

If you watch the video, you can see how it stays on the track. It has "upstop" whells. It's not really a train though. More of a one car flat moving thing.

I can't view the video because of crappy dial up. So can some one explain it a little more if possible.

I feel smug now. My school has a roller coaster unit ending in a trip to Adventureland. Each student constructs his or her own roller coaster at home. I don't even know the exact specifications that the teachers are asking for, but I am going to find out and start this April, though the project isn't due until late May! I'm painfully excited.

It looks meh, for middle school kids it's cool, but if I had to choose between my coaster, and something like this, I'd choose mine 100%.

You have to wait pretty long for the video to work and then it comes after a commercial.
It looks ugly, it would be cool if you could sit on it, lol.
It didn't make it over the loop in the video...
Where is this school? Does anyone know? looks cool, wish we did that at my school!

It stays on the track because there is like walls at the bottom that keep it hooked to the track and not fall off. It looks ugly and just a flat little cardboard looking thing

I didn't look through all the pictures...Is it complete circuit with station and what not? Actually, that is pretty impressive, but if it can't hold passengers, then Siestakey's wins overall.

And when did McKenna become a first name? What's the nickname for that?

The school is some where in California. Its called Royal Oak.

This might explain a little more.
Quote:
The students are part of the Odyssey Program, a three-year program that emphasizes intellectual development, emotional and moral education and collaborative, hands-on activities.
Quote:
This is Royal Oak's third and largest roller coaster; it's two feet taller and much larger than the last one.

While the usual definition of a middle school student is 6th-8th grade, some districts vary. I did remove two posts, one from siestakey.

Well I'm sure you'll do fine if you don't recreate this! I really didn't like this. I think they could've done a much better job. Especially on the "car/vehicle/whateveritis". But I guess if they are 6th through 8th then its ok...
