Home-Made Coaster/Ride Designs

Well, I highly doubt that I'm the only oone here who makes their own designs for roller coasters on paper. I made one called the Devil's Advocate (those of you who saw my RCT park ithe Speedzone, you know of the woodie in NW:TP) which is a wooden coaster that I rushed to draw after taking the GEPA test, but it came out pretty cool. Does anyone else do this? I will upload a scan of it later, but I'm just wondering. Anyone who does, feel free to upload pictures.

Not really coasters, but I have thought up some other rides. As for scanning and showing people, no thanks.

I do every day in study hall (when I'm not napping), don't feel weird. That, or siestakey, we may both just be weirdos.

Actually, I do this sometimes.. I take paper and make an overview of what I want my park like.. Of course they always turn out different... sometimes better... sometimes worse

I sometimes draw an overhead "wireframe" (aka a line- lol) view of the layout then later I sometimes recreate it in NL. But I haven't done that as much in the past few months.

I used to draw out coaster designs a lot but I have not oen it as much in recent months. I actually drew what would turn out to be the 4-D coaster before it was created. No need to believe me, but I would not lie. I like technical drawings so drwaing coasters was always fun for me.

I used to do it every day in school!! Not anymore too much, but I do have a few very technical ones I drew on graph paper, with supports, track style, station, brake types, everything. I'll try to dig em up sometime, I'll post them if I can find them.

I have tried, but they always come out looking like a bunch of random, intertwined lines.

I used to draw designs of coasters back in late elementary school and middle school when I wanted be a roller coaster designer. In high school though I stopped. I still have some drawings in random notebooks, none of them turned out so well that I'd want to share.

How are we weird?

The only reason I do it is because I'm studying to become a mechanical engineer and one day design rides and coasters (hopefully for disney).

All I'm doing by drawing these pictures is stretching my imagination and coming up with new ideas, concepts, or themed rides.

So, next time before calling someone weird, why not actually THINK about what you're saying?

Maybe he's the type that thinks concept sketches start in AutoCAD? *shrug* I always draw out my designs on paper first. From there they get transferred to whatever I'm "working" on at the time, be it RCT or NL. Most of my technical drawings get transferred to NL or NLE as I don't have access to AutoCAD st the moment. [Plus it's a PITA to use unless you're used to it.]

its really hard to draw them though so its easier to jsut imagine them and you can use your imagination more.

^Sometimes it's good to be able to more visualize what you want, though, and then you don't forget it. At least that's the case with me. If I tried to keep it in my head I'd forget it all by the end of the day lol.

Heh, I did that too! lol. When it came out I was like, "Hey I thought that up a couple of years ago..." But they were probably working on it for many years before that (like 5).

If you've never done this, you're wasting your life.

The same could be said for reading fiction books, golf, video games, just about anything anyone does for fun.

Ok well I'm actually pursuing a career in the extremely limited field of designers. I'm about 3-4 semesters away from my BS in civil engineering.

I hope to be a roller coaster designer in the future so I'm not wasting my life drawing on paper.

^that's what I think. Nobody ever say it's a waste of life. IMO, reading is a waste of life, but to other people, it may not be. If you have something rude like that to say to a bunch of coaster enthusiasts like that, vexpect this reply or don't say it at all. Pics o f my design later. BTW, by designs I meant like track layouts, but new coasters are cool too.

Then why bother posting that drawing coasters is a waste of life? Everybody posting in this thread does it for fun and could care less about your opinion on this topic? As far as I'm concerned, all you're doing is spamming.

Yeah, just like people that dream of being musicians never write lyrics when they're bored.

Drawing coasters on paper would probably help you on your path to designership, dude. Believe it.
